I didn't expect this post to stimulate so much discussion. I'm glad it did, if course.

When I see something like this, I generally assume that there is some very good reason behind it that I'm not bright enough to see. I just wanted a little help, that's all.

As I said, the people who run the forum get to do it as they see fit.

This means if somebody dies, people cleaning up their affairs can't delete the account even with the password. Far be it from me to tell them how to run the forum, but I wonder if this was well thought out.

I noticed that deleting accounts is not possible. A ny special reason for that?

Theres  difference between  adopting funny voices to ridicule people and doing it as a phony attempt to appeal to a group, which is what Hillary and Obama were doing. I'm not saying one is any better than the other, just apples and oranges.

Trump supporters have an unenviable job this week. They have to defend his ignorance over the Civil War, then his ambiguous remarks about Kim Jong Un and his desire to have Pres. Duterte visit the White House. But these posts belong in the Trump thread, so I won't post any more about it here.

The goofy voices are pretty much standard in conservative talk radio world. Limbaugh does the lisp, Savage does the bleat, Levin does the pant. Come to think of it, they sound like a bunch of demented high school boys.

I think that business of Obama surveilling the Trump camp  has been proven to be groundless.

He also seems to think that Michael Flynn operated in a vacuum.

With the exception of tomorrow nights first hour, when they're supposed to talk about North Korea, I'm taking a break from Coast to Coast this week. Staying up until 1 or 2 isn't helpful, even when I'm not working. I need to get up somewhat early on Wed. and Thur. anyway.

Glynis McCants is one of my least favorites, so I won't feel deprived.

Chris McCand less, the Into the Wild guy, was mentally ill. I read the book and saw the movie and have also known guys like McCandless. His biggest problem, as I recall, besides starvation, was that he couldn't walk back out because a stream  that was easily cross able when he went in had become a raging river from snowmelt in the meantime.

Finkel says Knight spent hours casing cabins to steal from, yet moments earlier he said that he stayed in his own dwelling nearly all the time and thats why animals didn't get into his food.

I also wonder if his family reported him missing, or if they  knew where he was.

I think this might have been on Free Republic (before Free Republic became so depraved  I wouldn't go on it) but somebody started a thread on the most enjoyable concerts you've ever seen. I've seen everybody from Springsteen and the Rolling Stones to Holly Near and Long John Baldry and find that some of my happiest memories are of great concerts. So let's revive this thread. Also so.e of the .ost interesting game back stories concerning the people you went with, etc. The other night I was thinking about the Bluegrass breakfast festival at the Harry Adams fieldhouse in Missoula in 1975. The headliners were Doug Kershaw, Vassar Clements and some others. Years later I realized that the couple who invited me were probably trying g to discreetly fix me up with another friend they invited. Welk, that didn't take--this guy ignored me, but it was,a great show. It was a nice evening. Jeannie and Roger--you were great friends and I think of you often, wherever you are.

Didn't know about Lindbergh WWII efforts--that's good to know.

The rickets business bothered me too. I think pretty much everybody knows it's a vitamin deficiency. It's unlikely that the child of a comfortable family in the 1930s would have something like that, unless he was deliberately starved or neglected, and there's no reason to think that he was.

I hate what this country has become.  And words can't describe how I feel about what the Republican party has become. At least, according to the actuarial tables, I'm scheduled to be dead in 19 years. Millenials and whatever the generation that comes after them is called will have to deal with this shit.

According to my go-to old movie guy, it was probably radiation that killed John Wayne.  He said that he, Susan Hayward and some other people, did a movie on location in a place that turned out to be radioactive(I forget the name of it) and they all died of cancer within a few years.  It would be interesting to know if the crew got cancer too.

Well, I guess " a few years" is not correct.  According to imdb, the movie was called The Conquerors and it was made in Utah in 1956.

Lolita is a remake I don't hate, but it's not a western.  I also liked both the Tyrone Power and Bill Murray versions of "A Razor's Edge" Except in the Bill Murray version, they threw in a whole made-up World War I back story that wasn't in the book, and was even contrary to some stuff in the book(similar to what was done in Godfather III).  I finally concluded that it was to give Brian Doyle Murray, Bill's brother, a job. The Naomi Watts version of The Painted Veil is at least as good as the Garbo version. I love the Painted Veil, anyway. More Maugham.

So this winter, there were lots of movies in the theatres I wanted to see, including the latest Star Wars, but I didn't have time or energy to see all of them.  Now I have time, and I have Regal tickets I got with credit card points, and there's hardly anything I want to see. Summer movies tend to be things that I don't want to see, with some exceptions. I would like to see The Shack, because I like Sam Worthington, the trailer looked good, and I want to see what the Evangelicals have their drawers in a twist about.

Looks like I'll be staying up late again tonight.  Tonight's show sounds like the kind of thing I like.

This is my favorite type of coast to coast show--true crime and old mysteries. I'm not convinced of Lindbergh's guilt, but this guy has succeeded in making me more seriously consider that Bruno Hauptmann might have been innocent.

The one thing I didn't like was this guest's insistence on minimizing Lindbergh's accomplishments. I know that Lindbergh was a Nazi sympathizer (Pan Am let him go from his spokesperson job because of it) and he had this secret life and family in Germany and all that. But still.  He kept saying "If Lindbergh hadn't made that flight, somebody else would have." Well, probably.  If Neil Armstrong hadn't walked on the moon, somebody like Gus Grissom(had he lived) probably would have soon after. But it was him.  Give the man a little credit. The guest also said some things that I think are flat-out not true.  For example, that kidnapping for ransom was common in this era.  Actually, I don't think it was, and this one of the reasons it was such a sensational crime, and the law was rushed through.

I did read the book alleging that the sister-in-law killed the baby. It was interesting, but I think that this one has more credence. I also remember the old nut on coast to coast who claimed to be the Lindbergh baby. I don't remember what Lindbergh's motive was supposed to be in this case.

Bone meal is a common ingredient in pet food.

If you simmer chicken bones for a long time, they will eventually soften and cook. This happened to me once.
But something even funnier happened to a friend of mine when he was a student at MSU. ( Montana State, not Michigan state) Apparently he was in the habit of deliberately making bone soup. When the folks came down from Great Falls for a visit, they saw what he was cooking and were so appalled they gave them money for groceries.

Thanks for posting on this. I'm very concerned about the NK situation, but not too knowledgable about this stuff.

There's a lot of stuff on the Internet that is wild rumors, of course.
