I don't think Art's "drama" technique of breaking up sentences is intentional at all.  I think he is a masterful multi-tasker; capable of engaging in deep conversation while simultaneously attending to two or three other tasks.  The halting technique is simply a result of his distractions.

Meanwhile...I really wanted to listen to Heather tonight but I'm so tired of old UFO guys.  Besides, he's got a 'revised' 2015 edition of his June Crain book to push.  I think I'll go defragment my disk drive or something.  Hoping for some new blood, topics.  How about these crazy "unprecedented" weather events?

We grow fresh rhubarb. lol you don't eat it raw. You need to cook and sweeten it for the pie. It's awesome. Strawberry rhubarb pie rocks.
Someone tricked the city girl into eating raw rhubarb when I was a kid. Damned shitkicker

It's great when it flows. I am able to do it in a conversation. PM me your podcast info.

Aw shit you're way ahead of me  :-[   We're still total amateurs at it, and we're covering a lot of difficult quantum mechanics material that's new to me (my co-host teaches this stuff so I get to learn a lot along the way), so I dunno...maybe I'll go through them and see if any of them are better than the others.  If I can make it through any of them without cringing horribly, I'll link you to that one  ;D

Another thing I'm trying to pick up from Art is the use of nonverbal communication - he sometimes says volumes with nothing more than a sound...many of which are hilarious.  It's a brilliant trick - it makes you feel like you're inside his head while also filling in natural pauses in the guest's statements.  Heather would do a "hmmmm..." when she started, but it's a little too impersonal.  The best ones sound natural, "umph's" and "mmmh's" and assorted grumbles.  So fun.

Have you read The Art of Talk?  I've always wondered if he talks about this kind of stuff in there...

I wonder if anyone has any clips of very early Art Bell. IIRC, his first broadcasts were in the late 1960s in Guam.

A good chunk of UFO stories are interchangeable. Very few provide something new to add to the meme.
