I tried to have that discussion a couple of years ago when I was told my request for eating at an oriental restaurant was pejorative. I was told to say Asian. Well I didn’t want Pakistani, Indian, Russian or Mongolian food. Asia is a big place. I wanted Oriental. I didn’t care at the time whether it was Chinese, Japanese or Thai.  My friend’s wife had adopted a Chinese girl so she was hypersensitive. Now when she asks I just say Thai.

I lean towards "Gook-food" as the PC term for Japanese/Thai/Chinese/Korean.  In fact, that is the officially mandated term in the People's Free Republic of Pate NewSpeak dictionary.  Learned it from a retired Marine Corps Colonel of the Vietnam area, so I know it is legit.
