Bella-Haven is Live

Wiring an Internet connection in a cave may be a little difficult, brig.  ;D

In all seriousness, I understand what you all are saying. I always seem to be struggling because life is too gray (in more ways than one, being from the northeast!). I sometimes envy those that see the world in black and white (not really). Each debate can be so nuanced...to a point where I can’t reach any conclusions except “it’s complicated.”

I agree with SV’s point that “there's a line to draw between abuse and simply pointing out her shortcomings.” Done respectfully, it can be a great vehicle for growth. The key is doing it respectfully. Not sure an anonymous forum is a great platform for this kind of dialogue, but BellGab seems to be more than a random group of people...there are years of sharing thoughts and ideas here. Maybe more of a family? Dysfunctional at times, but there does seem to be a shared history.

I enjoy BellGab when people post thoughtful comments...and I love the funny one-liners, too. So many clever people! The really ugly posts...not so much.

I know I have one flaw, or what I will call a character defect, that I have prayed and prayed to be removed.

'Character flaw' is one way to describe that gerbil that has got itself wedged so unfortunately. I know we have PM'd about this, but I hope you took my suggestion to play some soothing music to lull the little chap to sleep before you go in and grab him. Failing that, try leaving a piece of cheese and then whack the little bastard with a mallet so he doesn't head home again.

The wanker keeps moving my cheese. This has got to stop.

You're the king of wishful thinking and the leader of 'The Knights of Heather.' I'm sure your logic makes sense to you.

Pity on the soul that hasn't experienced the joys of wishful thinking.

i agree too brig.  criticism and praise require context to be valuable.

Which leaves me to ponder, among other things,  this is bellgab.  Was it ever intended to be a support group forum?  or perhaps a venting forum?  Or perhaps a forum open to be whatever the user requires it to be at any given moment?  My guess, all three, and more.

See, PBS, you never know when God is going to send you an angel. There was something I was struggling with, and now people compliment me on my excellent posture.

LOL. Yes exactly. I'm not trying to sway anyone as I think I am going themudking route. I simply was sharing. I believe that sharing could help another with their lessons in life.

Something must be troubling your soul, I'm glad you sought the solace of Bella-Haven. Grab a chair, a cup of coffee and rest your weary legs.

A lot of people on here think that being a fan involves totally unconditional support: whatever they do is right, and if you don't like it then you aren't a fan at all. That doesn't really work with sports teams, for example, where their 'fans' will line up to drag them across the coals if they lose a string of matches. Fans just want something good, and if they don't get it they will make it known. That's all that's happening here: Art thought he would get a pass over all this, and he is finding out that people have minds of their own about things and don't want to accept something sub-standard.

Yes I agree. I am not saying people need to change their views or anything. I simply was disgusted by my own behavior so I did something to change it. I still have my opinions and views on all of this. I just think I, like so many others in this whole thing, could have conducted myself better.

Perhaps I'm just insensitive, but I don't see that Heather has had to suffer much more than a bit of hazing. There is often a tendency to pick on someone from the out-group to see what they are made of, and whether they have the stuff to be part of the in-group. It might be unpleasant at the time, but that sort of thing builds muscle and makes you able to face much more serious challenges later on. If she finds it too much to handle then the job is not for her. If you have the talent, and the guts to make that talent work for you, then you have a good chance to succeed. There's a line to draw between abuse and simply pointing out her shortcomings, and I don't think the continual mantra of 'Heather's getting better' is really going to help her. For one thing, it sounds like the sort of thing you'd try to encourage a slow child or adult; for another, it gives someone a false idea of their abilities.

Even if Heather is in fact 'getting better' (which, let's face it, she really isn't) that's not exactly the standard that I'm looking for in my entertainment dollar. Begging Asking people to 'support the show and keep the seat warm for Art' by remaining/becoming a subscriber, under these circumstances, is nonsense. If I'm paying to see a juggling act, I'm not overly impressed if, in today's performance, they've only dropped the pins eight times, where last week they were dropping them nine. If you want to polish your act then, by all means, polish your act. Juggle on street corners, annoy your friends and neighbors... just don't expect me to pay for your on-the-job training.

PBS,  I have seen your website which you did yourself, and I remember long ago telling you it was beautiful, and I was impressed.  Maybe Heather would like a page like that with her own fan forum that you could help her with?  I dunno, it was just a thought that floated by with the other clouds in my head.
