Art Bell

The difference between Cumulus, Sirius/xm and a podcast is quite literally close to 100 million dollars a year. Its nice to think of things like art doing a podcast, but that would generate almost no revenue, while signing with cumulus or Sirius/xm would quite literally be close to 100 million a year... The business of radio is what it is, and art will have one of the largest contracts of anyone in the business.

Lol... podcast... come on... lol that isn't even realistic. that's amature. Or has been stuff. Art will command a top 5 salary easy.

Forgive me if I didn't read back enough if someone already posted this. But whose the wise guy that updated Art Bell on Wiki that he died today?

You know, I think Waters is right about that. Myself, I've never peeked at the goatse or two girls or any of the other foul things on the internet like faces of death stuff, because, as was said, what has been seen, etc. And I really do believe that when such things have become so common and everyday that it is a sign of a low, decadent culture.

Man getting goatsed is like an internet right of passage.

Wow this thread moved quick in a day. Last I read it was on page 309. What did I miss here? Anything important?

Which is kind of unfortunate in a way, because I think that aside from his inextricable emotional link to radio, podcasting is right up Art's alley in terms of having total control of what he's doing.

Joe Rogan, again, is the perfect template. He probably averages about 10 shows per month (just guessing), and basically does them on a whim sometimes, unless he has a specific guest scheduled. Perfect, flexible setup considering Art's health problems, family responsibilities, and age. He is the master of his own domain, has no bosses, no obligation towards an overbearing overlord company, says whatever the fuck he wants, and does basically whatever he wants. He has no problems getting ready and willing sponsors, and it's amazing because the format of his show is set up to where he'll do ten minutes of commercials at the beginning, and then it's 3 hours of unadulterated, uninterrupted bliss. His listener base is huge (not sure how it compares to Coast, but it's in the millions), pulls big name guests (he's had the great Graham Hancock on the show), and to top it all off, he keeps it completely free for everyone.

But yeah, Art's heart is in dinosaur radio, so I don't see it happening.

Adam Carolla has had 60 million downloads of his podcast since 2009
has 100% control of his show which plays 5 days a week M-F
I believe Art could make a killing with the same blueprint

That was a truly shitty thing to do.

Does George still mention Arts's name in his nightly sign off?

If so, I wonder when that will stop? If not, when did it stop?

Tommy's probably just messing with Jorch by keeping Art on the list, all of these years.  I'm surprised Jorch hasn't been closing by naming those practical joke names that surfaced for the crew of the Asiana flight.

Thanks! Glad to be here. Been a Coast fan since 1995. Been a lurker for sometime and finally thought "why the heck am I not chiming in?"

Carolla's audience is about 20-30 years younger than Art Bell's. That makes a huge difference in access and acceptance of the media.

So true.  And Noory's musical legacy?  UFO Phil and Jorch "Elvis" Noory's creepy crooning.  :P

I hope they don't forget Gordon Lightfoot. Art did a great interview with him once.

People don't always do death pranks because they dislike someone. Sometimes they just want to draw attention to their idol or to get them to come out of hiding and say "I'M ALIVE!".

Also a prank about Art croaking and then him saying "actually no, I'm fine and I'm starting a new show" could bring even more buzz and interest.  So it could backfire on Jorch if he's up to no good!  8)

That seems unlikely. I actually listened to an old show yesterday in which Art said that one of the things killing talk radio was the lack of diversity and oversaturation of political shows.
