After your site went down I was compelled to find most of the songs on itunes. Then my own playlist. I get a lot of shit from friends because of ABBA.

Hence my sadness for a few years.
That used to be my background music every Christmas eve as I cooked food ..

Now I have been forced to try to 'like' and dislike the right songs on Pandora to try to create my own 1990s Coast to Coast AM style station. it's not working.

Here's  a couple of links to Art Bell playlists on the Tube:

I was never much of an Abba fan pre-Art but I always find myself singing along to it when it's on the bumper music.

When the site relaunches, I'd love for it to have a similar look & feel to the way it was in 1998.

Make it Netscape Navigator compliant.

I hope Art adds this one.

The Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams

Looks like an early appearance of a flash mob in there.

Ah Netscape Navigator. My first ever browser. You always remember your first love.

Screw them!  I love ABBA, even more so when I learned Art was a big fan.  How can straight guys NOT love a group that had hot Swedish babes?

So many of Art's old favorites have been played by the Noorified-C2C which, unfortunately, has kind of tainted them.  Art's return will hopefully Clorox my mind of that Noory stain.

I loved it when Art would play some of the oddball, somewhat one-hit wonders.  Here's one that say's Art and sums-up what PremRat has done to us with it's Noorified C2C.  Damn you pack of PremRat Liars!  You've blown it all sky high!

Jigsaw-Sky High.

Ha another one that I couldn't remember but one that I hear all the time when listening to Classic Art.

I'm loving this stroll down memory lane. Keep em coming. There's got to be a few more gems that we've missed.

Not a bumper music song but Art played it a lot in 2004.

I particularly love the ones such as Jigsaw's "Sky High" that haven't been played to death by Noory's formulaic crap fest.

Thats how Art started in the early 90s, just the Las Vegas station and expanded from there, building his own network from scratch (the CBC radio network, you can hear mentioned on the old mid 90's shows)
That was the only way he could have total control before the sale to PremRat...

But radio is a different game now than 20 years ago. It would be almost impossible to start a network from scratch now. And even if you could, you wouldn't be able to get onto the big talk stations in the big markets as they are mostly owned by big companies who in many cases, dictate to those stations which programming they will carry.

I kind of like pissing on noory. He deserves it, imo. But I do believe when (if) Art returns... I really think c2c will fall quickly. And as much as I don't care for noory, I am not one to kick a dog that is dying... although in his case I may grin for quite a while.

A lot of people still listen to c2c out of habit. I have a friend who loved Art Bell but still listens to Noory every night. I don't think he has an idea about Art's possible return.

Yeah, you are right. Quite a few here do that very thing. Although I am sure they are aware of Art's (please god) return.

But I think for those that are unaware. I believe many of them will gradually see Art as a better host. I am quite aware of a loyalty issue. There are no doubt many that are comfortable with noory and may even see Art as a negative, until they listen. All my opinion of course, but I think team noory is in trouble.

So true.  And Noory's musical legacy?  UFO Phil and Jorch "Elvis" Noory's creepy crooning.  :P

Man I can't stand that UFO Phil song... does Noory still play that piece of crap each Friday? I really don't listen any more.

Speaking of Bumper music, Rollye James mentioned on her show the other night that the c2c producers have a list of "approved" bumper music and would complain when she brought in her own music when hosting c2c.

Meanandnasty

Me thinks this is the winning combination:

Cumulus:  Redeye Radio is CANCELLED!  Art Bell:  Midnight in the Desert will be the newest show in the universe.  It will also be carried on Sirrius in hours left vacate since Premiere decided to exit.  That would give him more, possibly, audience saturation than the current Coast.  This is just speculation.

As far as I know he does, when he's hosting.  It's the usual lame Noory routine.  Spin UFO Phil as he bails out early for the Lizard Lounge, if he hasn't already put on a replay for the last hour, so he can really get a headstart, maybe to wolf down some pancakes at IHOP with Tommy.   ::)

Me too.  Also not working.

The Youtube playlists kind of work, but not nearly as complete without gems like Cusco and "What a Fool Believes."  The soundtrack of 90's C2C is so great.  The one that always cracks me up is "Don't Leave Me This Way" because of Phil Hendrie's Art Bell spoofs.

I'd like to agree with you, but... Well, I've long felt that if Noory has a "thing" as a radio host, it's his ability to make timid New Agers feel safe. He almost always sides with the guests, no matter what they have to say. If C2C really has changed over the years, then it's possible that its audience has changed with it. If this is the case, then it might be that the current C2C crowd likes Noory specifically because he takes a back seat and never butts heads with the Hoaglands, Quayles, and Number Ladies.

Okay, which one of you wrote this?
I wish I had. I came across that piece some time back and think its the best article on Bell and C2C I've read. The writer is dead on about Bell, about the old C2C, and what's become of it with Noory/PRN.

"While the Art Bell show followed a compelling mythological arc that nearly corresponded to the fictional (?) "mytharc" of "The X-Files," Noory's show is a grab bag that reflects the growing idiocy of both America's working class and the aural clown assault of talk radio in general. "

The return of Art Bell has taken a mytharc of its own.

Speaking of Hendrie, I woke up to a hilariously horrible thought...what if this is all just Phil Hendrie having fun with us? :)

But seriously, I had another thought about the possible venue...I know those of you with more knowledge of the inner workings of radio will probably shoot this down as untenable. But what if Art isn't so much signing with a big radio conglomerate, as he is simply putting a new show together and syndicating it himself to whomever wants to pick it up? I'm sure the "big boys" don't play that way, but it IS Art Bell, so who knows?

I don't think that's actually what's happened--pretty sure he has a deal with a major company--but I wanted to just throw it out there as a possibility.

For those wondering about the Awl story, when it came out, I posted it here, on Art's FB page, and on an FB group devoted to Art. I took heat from a couple of people who felt it was insulting to him and was asked to remove it from that group because of its apparently insulting nature. I messaged Art about it, and he said it was fine, and he wasn't insulted at all.

Personally, while it does have a bit of a harsh tone, I do think it's dead on. And Art said it's OK, so that settles that for me.

If that were true, why then all the ultra hush-hush-bound-by secrecy-yada-yada stuff?

You may be dead on. I would point out that noory's numbers have been in decline (granted slower recently). Art's numbers were, by what I have read in this forum close to 10 million, noory's now are at ~ 3million. Now those stats are purely truthiness on my part, to be completely honest. However safe noory's audience may feel, I am sure the energy and insight Art brings to the game will more than offset any timidity. Team noory, really, brings very little to the table. It is more of a place holder than interesting radio.

I may be wrong... it has happened before.

Fight The Future: As I said, I don't think that idea is tenable. But I hadn't seen it brought up by anyone, so I did. But in that what-if scenario, the secrecy could be that he's still signing contracts with all of the affiliates.

Onan: I think PremRat measures the success of Noory/Coast by number of affiliates, not number of listeners. And lest we forget, many of those stations only run Coast because they won't be allowed to get Limbaugh otherwise.

Sadly, horrifically, I have heard Noory's rendition of "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You" a couple of times now.  First off, that song was last popular in, what, 1963 or so?  Noory is clearly playing to a very old demographic.  Secondly, the basic Elvis voice isn't that astonishingly difficult "to do" if you are an adult male with any sense of mimicry.  Noory's version is too slow and dull-witted and passionless anyway.  He ain't got that Elvis magic.  He'd too stupid to realize he's embarrassing himself, but that is pretty much the case all the time, isn't it?
