Well said.  There was a paper called The Chicago Day Book that had some great bits on crime but it went out of business in 1917.  The Rock Island Argus has a similar style and I almost wonder if one of the reporters from the Day Book went and got a job there.  Both of the papers were/are (The Argus is still being published to this day) in Illinois.
