I'll chat with him about it.

You can actually have more than 20, most podcasts I subscribe to are up to 100, which can still be accessed pretty fast.  Anything beyond that should really go through an archive section on the site and not RSS.  I've done that on a few projects and works best that way.

A little wishlist for when you talk to him can you ask if the <pubdate> field in the items can be populated with the showdate, right now it populates with whenever you pull in the feed.  And possibly drop the date from the title tag, maybe use the length attribute in the enclosure tag. and the link pointing to the guest info on the Art Bell site instead of to the dark matter site which needs authentication.  and maybe strip any html form the description tag.

Truthfully I could live with 100, part of it is I wish the archive section was more sortable and viewable as one page. It's a pain to skim through it on my phone and not even having any search or heck just tags to work with. I didn't even realize how many episodes I had initially missed and I hate having to load it into a mp3 player app vs a podcast one that has better options to advance 10 or 30 seconds back and forth or manually move forward in shorter gaps of time.

I think the member site is done in php, which I've not developed in, otherwise I wouldn't mind having a stab at developing the archives section ;)

Bingo and wordpress to boot.

I wrote the whole RSS feeder in .NET (MVC).  I wouldn't touch a wordpress site with an 8bit byte.

One of the challenges of the current setup is that the RSS feed is actually external.  I doubt there would be an issue with 20  vs 100 but the cut off has to be at some point.  As for your other comments, some of them I can address with Keith when we chat.

In my daily life I do .net stuff, still the easiest to work with in my mind, besides the older versions of Delphi when it was still Borland, ah.. the good old days..  I think if he can run the archives on a sub domain that runs .net it wouldn't be to difficult to build, the db can remain on MySQL, no magic there either..

A few screenshots of the windows based podcatcher (Varmint)

Some of the features included are;
Torrent downloads
Batch downloading of podcasts
Access to podcasts that require username/password authentication
Auto caching of feeds
Direct playing of audio or video feeds from within the application

Still working on magnet downloads, some feeds use magnet to distribute podcasts

Give me a shout if you like to test the application..
