I have no doubt it's been a pain in the ass, podcasts were essentially never meant to be security auth'd so with the few of them (Streamlink/Coast Insider was one of the only ones I ever had) that exist there have always been bumps due to the layering to attempt to mitigate bandwidth/content loss. Ironically it works JUST FINE on iOS. -_- so there are probably a lot more users on Podcasts iOS than us group of Android users.

Let me ask, have you used even one application that just WORKS at this point in time? Because while this interests me from the development side, I already am a developer and handle plenty of my own bugs. So i just want something to work. This is not a finger pointed at you at all, rather- I've paid for about every premium app thinking i'd give it a chance and every-single-one has issues. So if something is work i'd just hush up and wait for the kinks to iron out.

I don't mind the finger pointing at me that's why I've been trying to respond and stay on top of it.  I don't think any podcast app will fully work across the board.  Whether it is authentication issues (some support it, some don't), organizing a feed (some use the GUID as a unique identifier others use pubDate and Title), streaming (won't generally work if the app doesn't buffer the entire clip), or history (recognizing that the URLs change).  There is no real standard when it comes to these feeds or the apps that use them as you are aware.

I think Republic Podcast (Android) will support what we are trying to do as soon as he pushes his next update, he seemed very receptive. I put a support request into DoggCatcher as well as they have a known issue with authenticated feeds with non authenticated enclosures.     I haven't had much of any problems with Downcast on IOS.  Most of the issues that occur aren't really bugs in the classic sense..  I'm just guessing as to how to format the feed to get the broadest support or maybe at this time, full Android support in one app.  That's been the most painful part.  I feel the same frustration as you and everyone else.

You should communicate more specifically to Keith, he should never have gone on the air that night and said BeyondPod was officially supported. I can't imagine the amount of tickets that's likely generated. Further, I sent him error logs etc and he was responding but stopped(he's got plenty of stuff to do so whatever). So I don't know to what extent he thinks this works but going on the air and saying RSS is good to go and giving an application when it's far far far from ready was a bit presumptuous on his part.

Sadly, it's almost just easier to login via the browser and listen via a backgrounded Chrome tab at this point. That said, this show leaving all these people on the rocks will generate tickets and also sales for the person that's most receptive to getting all the layers in order.

It was definitely rushed to production, I won't argue that.  We could have used a good two weeks of testing.  I built this feed thing, was contacted on Friday and in production on Monday.    I am in contact with Keith on a daily basis with the issues along with looking at other more dedicated options.

That being said, I'm not having any issues on beyond pod >= 47.  When I contacted them their .44 release introduced a bunch of bugs preventing the downloads from amazon.

They have a plus membership. They have a password protected podcast that worked perfectly.

Anyone know a way to get the RSS feed list to show (and play) on a Reciva wifi radio?  I have it working on all my company issued apple...stuff, but can't get it on my Grace Reciva based wifi radio, I'm sure it's something to do with authentication process.

Really?  I just installed beyondpod, and it's behaving exactly like DoggCatcher: loading all the episodes, but not allowing me to download any of them.

It's broken everywhere, not consistent at all. If you downloaded the beta its version .48 but I had the other versions and its still broken. It's being worked on. I even saw it also breaks on ios last night.

Beyond pod 47 and 48 worked fine for me. Here are some screen shots last night and then again this morning. I cancelled the downloads but they worked fine.

The beyond pod in the play store won't work. The beta 47/48 should. It is available at the link I just posted above.  When adding the feed touch the advanced settings and add your login. DoggCatcher has a known issue downloading from Amazon according to their support forum.

You will need to download the ep within 15 mins of updating your feed.

I just subscribed. MU is using https://www.libsyn.com for their podcast hosting.

These expiring link are why I download the episode into Pocketcasts and then it goes away and I have to download it again after a certain amount of time?  I don't understand these expiring links...are they afraid of piracy?

I think it less to do with piracy and more to do with bandwidth.    I think the links should expire after 3 or 4 hours personally and I know they were thinking about making that change.  That wouldn't solve all the issues but would help at least with streaming.

That doesn't make much sense because I have to keep downloading the show which uses more bandwith.

That is because different apps handle the "uniqueness" of an episode differently.  There is a field called GUID that is supposed to be unique but some apps don't use it that way.  Pocket Casts and Republic Podcast are two.  Anyways, besides getting into a discussion about that, the point about bandwidth was posting a public link that a million people would use not that you might have to download it a couple times although we are working on that too.  It is my opinion not necessarily the right reason.

As an aside, it is interesting that some outfit called proXPN is advertising "anonymous" web-surfing, torrent downloading, etc (or something I'm not sure on all the tech) on the show now!

I'm glad you're there to help Keith out otherwise we'd end up with mp3's behind a paywall to download and no modern concessions. You've helped MITD be 2009 instead of 2002. <3 i kid

I did do some early design work before the XM site launched and gave up because somebody was happy to leave the site with the most boring of reactive themes and just ew.

None necessary, your work is appreciated. I've been in your shoes and walked away to be able to just have the feeling of the show and no discontent from dundering about. I'm glad your help is being accepted at least. We'll get there.

No comment related to your prior experience which I can relate to.

Everyone here, critical or helpful, all the feedback has been fine.  I've just been trying to stay on top of it but I think sometimes it looks like I'm being defensive or something.  There are issues and it isn't perfect but at least it is functional at the moment with what is in the market.  I'm also working on a more permanent and dedicated mobile solution but I have to get buy in on it.

Nah, i don't take your response as defensive at all. I know exactly what you're dealing with x100. Have there been changes and new suggested apps at all? Or still same business, BP doesn't work and Pocket Cast does DL but has borked quantity of available episodes.

Yeah, dealing with the feed is pretty tame to the other stuff at my office I have to deal with.

I've been using the BP beta without a any issues at all.  I just refresh the feed and everything downloads fine.  That's been the most stable (47+) app for me by far on android and manages the history really well.  I use this every night

For the others, I'm waiting for the dev of Republic Podcast to make a change and push to play store.   DoggCatcher has a thread in their forum that I'm monitoring about this (known issue with downloading from amazon).  Pocket Casts hasn't responded at all so I have no idea how they deal with stuff.  Since they don't want to respond I'll just redirect to other apps.  Podcast addict said he wouldn't support it because rss items are immutable.  Fine, we will tell everyone to not use it.    That's where I stand at the moment on the android front.  I also checked out Mysterious Universe who uses a premium podcast service no doubt better than amazon since they have full control over it.  That goes above my pay grade since I have nothing to do with the DMDN platform, the RSS feed actually sits outside it.

Willow

Am I able to down load in the podcast so I can listen with no WIFI? That is what I am looking for my "beyonypod app" for my android is junk.

Thank you, Willow

sbaustin

Willow, yes, that is exactly what I do.  Here are some instructions on getting the BP beta:

You can either join their beta program or download the APK (the installer - this is called side loading) which is listed at the bottom of the following page.  The installer is at the bottom (APK).

http://www.beyondpod.mobi/Android/BETA/

The APK is the quickest route but requires a small settings adjust first:

1.  Go to settings
2.  Scroll down the list and tap Security, then on the right, scroll down and tap Unknown sources.
3.  Tap OK on the prompt that appears.  This setting allows you to install apps that are not in the play store.
4.  Go to your downloads folder if you downloaded the APK or initiate the download of the APK.  Click on the downloaded APK and it will install.
5.  Open beyond pod

Once you have the program installed you should be able to add the feed as you did prior and download the episodes.  The key is to open the advanced menu on the feed screen and enter your username (email) and password.

Willow

Thank you, it is now working. I am not sure if I got the beta tester one after signing up as a BETA tester since all Arts shows that were streamed on the old app reappeared but I deleted them and reinstalled and am able to download them thank you. I do have tunein pro so I am able to record Mon, Tue and Wed nights shows while I am home so I only needed Thursdays and Fridays downloaded.

Thank you again, Willow

MV/Liberace!

Works perfectly in BeyondPod 4.1.48. Thanks buddy.

Totino

I'm using the Pocket Casts App and the show list keeps updating and by the end of the day I have 99+ episodes listed. This is a problem because when I pause an episode in the morning and go back in the evening to listen, there are 99+ episodes to scroll through before I get to the one I was listening too. Is there a way to fix this?

I've tried to contact them 3 times. They don't respond so my recommendation is use the beyond pod beta. Or send a support request to them to try and get their attention.
