Art Bell Quits Dark Matter

Started by DesertFox, November 01, 2013, 08:13:24 AM

I didn't realize that Clyde Lewis was ever even on Sirius. I've only heard him for fairly brief snippets in my automobile on the AM radio and really liked his style a great deal (the only other announcer I consistently enjoy anywhere as close to Art Bell would be George Knapp for whatever reason, although I'm not a George Noory hater he's just not as compelling to listen to for whatever reason).  Anyway, I've looked for Apps on my I-phone and even went to Clyde Lewis's website to look for some sort of "Insider club" that would let me get replays on my I-phone and found nothing.  Are you guys saying that he is on Sirius (with old shows available?) That might constitute a reason to keep my streaming membership on Sirius.  As to Art as I've said in other posts on this thread there are "options" ranging to fighting the non compete to going "off shore" and broadcasting over the Internet (or otherwise). Heck, he could even "hire" (I'm sure many talented up and comers would volunteer for the experience) substitute hosts so that he didn't have to do more than one or two shows per week (although again like a poster above said I wish he did the show every night!).  There is potential for at least a multi million (maybe eventually BILLION) dollar "paranormal, Science, Astronomy,Tech," type network which was merely or mostly "headlined" by Art Bell, his style, reputation, and quality control ethos.  I wasn't kidding when I said that for me his show brought as much satisfaction (and hence feeling(s) of loss) as Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones combined (anyone who watches or watched those shows may have perspective on what I'm getting at there).  So Art, do it for the love of radio, do it to earn millions (billions?) more, to find possible answers which may ease your soul as to the impending gallop of the Grim Reaper for whom you are often looking over your shoulder or even do it to help the forlorn victims of the Philippines (if you decide to donate a percentage of profits especially if you go with the approach of broadcasting from there), but for God's sake don't fade gently into the night.

End of this story...to be continued on line somewhere streaming into the nite or just winding down?

Well, I don't know about anyone else but I still have my old stock account and so on the first I'm going to buy a small amount of Sirius stock and address them as a stockholder and call them up and get their annual report and the something K thing that the SEC requires all publicly held companies to send out every year. There should be some information in there.
Anyone can call their shareholder relations department and ask for a copy of their annual report to be sent to them.
And complaining as a stockholder carries more weight than just complaining as a listener or customer.

Yeah...   That money would be better spent on a streamlink subscription to put it nicely.

I heard previously (a few months back, when we were all talking about Sirius' charge practices and how they can be tricky) that there was a $75.00 charge to terminate your subscription.  That turned me right off, and helped me to make up my mind that I would not subscribe to Sirius monthly with a credit card, or at all with any of my money.  I don't respect companies that charge a customer $75.00, a lot of money to me, to discontinue a service they're dissatisfied with for whatever reason.  Anyone should have a right to discontinue a service for free if it is no longer meeting their expectations, period.  A person should not end up being financially penalized for no longer finding that service satisfactory:  that sort of way of doing business is complete BS, in my eyes, and poor customer service.  (As a person actually MIGHT re-subscribe later on, if they didn't know they were going to get hit with a $75 penalty fee).

Agree -- it's surprising that what we consider a "legit" company would impose such a penalty.  It just seems wrong.  Another reason to dislike Sirius.

Hi everyone. I know this isn't the right thread, but I am posting this here because I know everyone will see it. I have an URGENT prayer request for my mom. She had a heart attack last night and please anyone who believes in God or Prayer to please pray for her to get well. Her name is Rachel and she is 85. Thank you. I won't be on for a while since I haven't slept in like 36 hrs. Will let you know how she is as soon as I can get back online. She seems stable for now but I am very worried since she had a heart attack about a year and a half ago as well.  :'(  Thank you.   :(

Prayers for your mom.

Here you go.  Clyde's site with info on how to listen.  I catch him every once in awhile on some local AM stations.

If you sign for a year(with its discount) and leave early then they charge you $75 BUT if you just go the month to month way then there is no early withdrawal charge.

Oh, that's not so bad then.  Didn't know about the distinction.  Still, I think it's shitty customer service for penalizing a customer, ever, for wanting to cancel.  It would sure make that customer think twice about signing up again, I would think.  Poor business practice, to my eyes.

Dear Art,

For a brief period, 6 weeks, it was like my world was complete. Seriously. I had missed you for such a long time. Used to listen to you every night, and had all the stations along regular long distance routes programmed in my car radio so as to not miss a thing.

There is just not a lot of good radio on anymore. And as someone who grew up in Chicago, I know good radio. Some of the best in the USA is (or was) in Chicago.

Art, as a fan, and a fellow ham, I just don't know what to say. For some people, your return was a major event. The return of a beloved ritual... a familiar voice.... interesting subjects.

There have been times that I, and others, have blamed you, Sirius, streaming, or <insert scapegoat here>.

I'm sorry for that.

Regardless of the garbage that has been spewed by myself and others in the thread, it has to be said: You are the best broadcaster I've ever heard. Pure entertainment, good topics, interesting guests, and un screened open lines. It is a deadly combination for a radio show.

So regardless of who played the worst role in this debacle on Sirius. Remember this: If you are breathing, you belong on the air- anything less is a waste of material.

thank you for not flipping out over the coz memes and crying like a vag.  i found them hilarious, and you took it like a fuckin' man.

A friendly observation:
if you can't understand why people have challenged you on your hypocrisy, then maybe this place is not for you. You stated your anguish when sxm charged you for a service that you admitted you have attemped to aquire for free multiple times. Can you not see how hypocritical that sounds?
You posted on a public forum!  you should expect people to call others on the perceived bullshit they post.

^^ This.

Good News! Good News!  Good News!

I just made a deal with the D. .  (not the Producer)

I contacted Sirius listener care and told them if they would get Art Bell back on the air, I will be a paid subscriber.

In that conversation he said that Mr. Bell's channel was one of the most popular ones.  That he looked for him to be back on Sirius soon.  That was from a representative in Listener Care at Sirius.

To what end ? To listen to crap like TMZ ? I wasn't impressed by Opie and Anthony, can't stand Pete Dominick and while I did listen to the NRA and one Conservative channel and Sinatra, it wasn't Art.
It's like going to have a steak dinner at Ruth Chris' and then the following week having one at a hoagie place on sourdough bread.
It just aint' the same.
And never would be.
And I'd only buy 5 shares or so anyway.
But I'd be writing in as a former subscriber and a stockholder. Once I buy stock I don't sell it unless I see it going completely in the tank as I did with Citigroup when I bought it at 44 saw it go to 57 and sold it at 22 thinking it would go back up but the lying sob who ran the bank didn't tell the world that he and the bank were hiding important financial data on convertible debt swaps that didn't come out until after he was gone, the financial crisis was upon us and Citigroup stock tanked to 1 3/4.
I've never understood why so many Wall Street and bank CEOs never were indicted over all that mess except that their cronies who had worked at Goldman, Sachs, Bear Sterns, etc. had taken positions in the Bush and Obama administrations and kept them from being indicted.
IMHO.

I have repeatedly told them when when ive called to pay my bill that they are NOT ALLOWED to automatically take money out of my account. In the end they turned around and did it anyway against my wishes and it wasnt just one month it was 6 months in advance. After a couple times of that my card expired and they were no longer able to get in. They forgot to turn my radio off tho so i enjoyed 1 year of free service Ha Ha

Fuck em
I hate that company
Im on Arts side

They charged you six months in advance, even though you were trying to get them to only charge you month-by-month?   Yet another example of their very poor business practices.  So glad I didn't subscribe with my credit card, ever, and so very glad that they didn't manage to "hack it," either.  Feeling lucky.

Is this for real?!  There is hope then.  Either that, or that rep at Listener Care was just bs-ing you to try to keep you as a subscriber longer.

Do they have an Australian version of Monopoly down there ?
They seem to have everything else including a John Wayne version which is damned expensive and which I never saw in any store.

No, I am not a paid subscriber.  I did one free trial.  I asked for six more months free, but he could not do that so, then Mr. Bell was discussed and he did say those things.

We need all of those we can get.
And the can feed is free and streaming as well.
I'd say you should send that to Art but it would be too cruel.

I'm starting to think some of the reps at sirius is just telling people whatever they want to hear.  Didn't someone just post that a rep called them and said Art would never ever be back on sirius?

I wish I could be happy over this, but my gut-feeling says this is just a Sirius rep's BS in order to try to keep you hanging on.  If you'd thought there was a good chance Art was coming back, you might have chosen to subscribe---or that might be THEIR way of thinking.  I actually sort of wonder if these customer reps work on commission:  that if they get someone to sign up, they get a commission.  Would not surprise me at all, and, if so, would be incentive for them to out-right lie to you (or at least falsely get your hopes up when they actually know diddly squat).
