You can find the "genre" on your FM radio, and sometimes an artist you like comes on...but with Sirius, they have a whole other market, for sports, and specific limited run events/channels devoted to a wide range of genres as well and specific artists.  I get both sides of the argument, just feel that peeps are overtly stressing their belief that the free version offered is going to become their exclusive way to listen.  It's only a live show....what if the quality is diminished down from 64kbs to 24kbs...(I KNOW I KNOW Some people just don't care, but for me it makes my ears ring, and I won't listen to a cheaper version just because it's free)

True. I really enjoy the 70's station. It plays songs from my era that I haven't heard in forty years. But ... for a hundred and some bucks a year I can live without it. I'm just sayin'.

Last year I bought a new Dodge Voyager minivan. It came with a free year subscription to Sirius.
To be honest, Sirius was nice but I could find what I wanted to listen to over regular FM stations so I planned to let the subscription run out and not renew it. But ... when I learned Art was coming back on Air I decided to renew my yearly subscription and download the apt to allow me to listen to his nightly broadcast on my home PC. I haven't missed a show. Thing is ... if I can get it for free I will. I'm quite sure Sirius executives realize this as well. Be careful where thou tread Art. It's a business. You know that my Brother. Peace. Afixer
P.S. Paranormal? I'm not one to actually 'call-in". But years ago ... my wife, her mom and a close friend were thrown out of their chairs ... pinned against a wall and nearly suffocated to death while using a Quija board.
Free on his website, not on XM radio in your car. You won't be listening to Art for free anywhere but during live hours on his web site, or on a cellphone I'm guessing. This does not include reruns or repeats.

In the end of his statement re the streaming Art says that they are hoping to be able to free stream. Then he says it again with accent on the word hoping.  He Says "That's what we're hoping for."  Sounds like a wish to me and not so much a demand.  I figure he'll just carry on and finish his contract if it doesn't come to pass.

I truly hope so. Arts offering up some programming you cannot find easily anywhere else in a format that only Art can serve up properly. Long live 'The King"!

Almost to the end of this show â€" WTF? â€" WAS EVERYONE SNORTING COKE OR COMING DOWN WITH CAPTAIN TRIPS LAST NIGHT? As you can tell, these gawd-damn sniffers are bugging the BEEJEEEEEEZUS out of me. And God bless Art for telling some of these people to get to the friggin' point.

When I was waaaaaaaaay younger, my brother and I would sit up and listen to the Ghost-to-Ghost shows with much anticipation and excitement. The stories seemed scarier back then, but maybe it's because we were young. There was none of this "I had a dream that I got sucked up into an electric socket" stuff.

The grandmother with the granddaughter who was seeing dark shadow people playing with the neighbor's baby freaked me out. I feel like Art cut her off before she got to the end though. And I'm not a parent, but I'm pretty sure if a child is terrified of something, the parent/grandparent isn't supposed to go "OH MY GAWWWWWWWD THAT'S SCARY GET IN THE CAR LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!" and peel down the street or whatever. Probably did not help the years of therapy that kid's gonna need.  ;D

I will grovel to that!

Could you guys please drop the attacks and the subject ?
Its not only off topic but kind of silly.
I made a mistake and I'm getting way too much grief over it.
Enough allready !
I'm done with it if you are.
And I've gotten dozens of those Nigerian and Indian emails over the years.
I just forward them to the FBIs unit that investigates online scams.

Remember ... it's a new audience listening to Sirius now. Maybe it will take a few years to produce the quality callers we all remember from the old "Ghost to Ghost" shows.

Picture of some of the bone fragments, and the incense sent by the Dalai Lama.

Have an open mind people. Just because something sounds fantastic and amazing doesn't mean it's a lie. It's also pretty disappointing to come to a board you frequent and see people calling your wife a liar.

Hi - I haven't read through all the comments here yet, but I really liked your story. I thought it was cool. Thanks for sharing it. Creepy as hell!

Sick avatar ... reminds me of one of my ex's.  :o :'( ::)

I was not enamored of the show last night.  Some of the disappointment was in the lousy sound quality of the calls, but some of those calling spoke reeeeeeallllllly slowly and I feared that they might have been slow thinkers, as well.

I wonder how big Art's audience is?  After all, some of those ghost stories were pre submitted and we never knew which ones were.  Maybe there were not many.

Art mentioned that free streaming would expand his audience, so I'm thinking that perhaps he does not have the following that he expected on Sirius.

We do not know what Art's contract says.  You can put anything in a contract as long as it's legal.  Maybe Art knew of Sirius transmission problems before he signed.  Maybe Sirius promised that they'd be gone when Art made his debut.  Maybe there is verbiage that addresses that issue regarding his program in his contract and maybe he CAN drop out if there are ongoing issues that are not resolved in a timely manner.

Also, free streaming would broaden his audience considerably.  That would mean more advertising revenue for Sirius and more money for Art, because he gets a percentage, no?  He said it would be a new business model.

On the other hand, if the show now can be heard the following day on Utube, I can't see the value of subscribing to Sirius at all if you also have free streaming.

I bought my home radio specifically for Art's show.  I don't listen during the day, and during the night sometimes listen to NPR or the BBC, but I could get those on regular radio.

BTW That was my 5th call with Art on Dark Matter.

We will be announcing our engagement at the end of tonight's show.

LOL!  :D

And woooooooo â€" she doesn't even remember Roger?! Do you think she must have seen you throw your cigarette butt in the garden once and you didn't realize it? Or do you think kids, until they reach a certain age, can see things and people we can't?

I have a little special needs niece â€" Reilly, she's 3 now, she has a lot of severe brain damage but is doing much better than doctors said she would. When she was about 14 months or so, I was babysitting her and I heard her in her room laughing in the middle of the night.

I went in there to check on her, and she was lying in her crib on her back, laughing really delightedly and waving her hands in the air at, well, what looked to me like nothing. But then she would pause and laugh again, and I swear it seemed like she was having a little conversation or definitely responding to something I couldn't see. I like to think it was my grandmother, who passed away right before she was born. It was a little unsettling though. I said something like, "Hey, whoever you are, thanks for swinging by and all that, but could you please leave now so we can all get some sleep?"  ;D

In retrospect, I wish I would have grabbed my phone and snapped some pics or switched on the recorder to try to get an EVP. I was just so stunned, I didn't think about it until later.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA - damn, man, that's unfortunate as hell.

I like to change it every five minutes so if you hang in there, I'm sure it'll be something else soon.  ;D

Not everyone here are dicks, but sometimes assholes scream the loudest at a party.

I wanted ghost stories... and yours was chilling.  Thanks for getting on the air and telling it.  It cannot now be unheard.

Have you tried black salt to help rid some of the negativity & activity?  It might help.
Certainly.  A lot of posts here might be described as rantings of 'troubled youth'.
I certainly believe most people who call in with these stories are reporting their truth.

I never heard of black salt, but found this:

Art knows anyone who doesn't have XM will stream it one way or another, and knows they're likely to not get XM if they don't already have it.
He knows that if he put stream on his website, they would atleast generate revenue towards him/darkmatter/sirius if they could instead do so on his website.
Well said.
Art has brought Sirius XM a world wide audience (through pirated streams) and Skype callers to prove it. If Sirius has any interest in expanding, they should not pass up this opportunity.

For the record... The suggestion that Art and Keith are more capable of streaming to millions of listeners than Sirius/XM is laughable to say the least. I love both of those guys, but that's pure BS.

i don't see why that's bs.  sirius has never managed to stream opie and anthony online reliably.  o&a complain about it constantly.  that fine tradition continues with art bell.  i'm telling you... sirius does everything on the cheap.  they're one of america's worst companies.

btw... where does this 20-million figure for stern keep coming from?  you're telling me stern competes with limbaugh in terms of listener numbers?  noooo way.  if stern has 20-million, that means about 71% of all sirius listeners are paying attention to stern's show.  i just can't believe that.

i agree.  the show's not going anywhere.  relax, all.

I have never once had a streaming error. Are people only having problems with SiriusXM's desktop player?

i've had problems on both the phone app and the desktop interface.

Nighthawk

;D My thoughts too....pretty sure, it was a reference to you/our stream  :P
there's a few more out there, but yeah.. tsk tsk  :P

It would take some server horsepower to stream to thousands of listeners. I'd say if you were streaming 32kbps (perfectly fine for talk radio, what alex jones streams at), you could stream to 2700-2800 listeners per server. A dedicated server from a quality host could easily handle that load, and could be obtained for less than $70 per month, probably cheaper. With a cluster of 5 machines @ a total of $350 per month, that's 14000 slots.

Better yet they could use amazon's cloud (which they're already using for artbell.com), and pay for what they need, when they need it. Spool up a cluster of vms each night 30 minutes before the show, broadcast till the show is over, and shut them back down. 4 hours of streaming to 16800 listeners would use around 1100 gigabytes, which isn't bad at all. I don't know how much amazon charges for bulk network usage, but i can't imagine it'd be cost prohibitive.

All i'm trying to say is that streaming to tens of thousands of listeners is much cheaper and simpler than people realize. Scaling that up to millions presents actual challenges, but I can't imagine art's free stream would grow to anything more than 10,000-20,000 per night. But then again, i have no idea what kind of ratings he's actually getting.

Anyone else have memorable ouija board experiences?  I have and still can't really talk about them openly as they're too personal.  Not really scary ones in my case, just very real and strange.  I'm convinced they really do open up some kind of channel to, well something.

Does anyone remember the time Jorch teased everyone for a week saying he was going to use the Ouija board live on air, and then of course on the night of the show he chickened out and said his listeners had "talked him out of it"? (Sorry - I should probably have posted that in the GNS thread.)

I haven't used one since I was a tween and we were asking stupid questions like "Will Duran Duran ever come here in concert?" and "Does Matt in 6th period Social Studies like me?"

I kind of wish I could find someone else who's brave enough to give the whole Ouija Board thing a whirl with me now. My faith in God has plummeted so much that maybe blatant evidence of purely demonic evil is the only thing that could bring it back, if that makes sense. That's why I wish Art would tell his story. I trust him not to bullshit us. And if he really did encounter something evil, well hell, maybe I could actually believe that good and evil actually do exist beyond the boundaries of the human mind.

Wow, I'm in a funk this week. Sorry. Maybe it's a planetary thing.  :-\

It is pretty easy to disprove the planchette maneuvering. Blindfold the people that will touch the planchette. Have an observer nearby to watch. Ask any question... see where the planchette goes.

For me that is when Dorch really jumped the shark. Who was his sidekick that night? The numbers lady or Rosemary Ellen Guilley? I remember her being like "it's safe. it's fine. it's your intention. I'm here to guide you. it's safe". And then when George chickened out she was like "good idea. you did the right thing." What a suck up.
