I'm willing to go as high as 100% of people collect it in some form or another. Though I will admit that it is nice to be able to look at those collecting direct government money and to be able to judge them as inferior.

If your working, you are just putting off your collection of a pension (that you have not contributed as much to as you will be taking out.) The government gives subsidies to corporations that benefit you indirectly more than they do somebody who is "poor" and collecting welfare. Hell, even the food stamps are just a way of getting money to the shareholders and owners of big agriculture and chain supermarkets, that in turn allows your groceries to be cheaper. (And has the added benefit of increasing the value of your 401K and portfolio.)

Don't get me started on government workers making 80,000 for a 30,000 a year job. While the government has been bribed by their unions to pay them an extra $4000 per month more than the worker is worth- that worker feels free to pretend that they are superior to the welfare mom pulling in $1200 a month.

Do you live in a new neighbourhood where the government just paid tens of thousands to connect your driveway to the interstate road system, your water to the treatment plant, and your storm to the river? Yeah, some places charge the developer a small portion- but the rest usually comes from the government. Single family detached cost a lot more that Casa Senda and the usual subsidized housing.

If you don't believe that you are collecting government money in some form or another, you are a moron.

Ask me if I want to pay the true, unsubsidized cost associated with garbage collection, gas distribution and to repair my front sidewalk in a few years as well as plow the street in the winter?

Nope. I'll continue to take my government hand-out every month, thank you. But at least I'm not blind to the fact that I am taking it. There are a lot of people who want to cut off welfare programs while asking for a bigger pension. And their willing blindness is laughable.

It is complicated. Is a partially subsidized home, small business, or student loans considered 'taking government money?" Is taking advantage of tax 'breaks' or using the tax code to maximize your net income more cleverly than your neighbor 'taking government money?' Using government infrastructure? Talking advantage of regulatory capture? Farm subsidies? Price controls?

Or we talking only direct payments- like SNAP, Section 8, being a prison inmate, welfare, free school lunches, etc?

Some would argue that the government has no money and really it is all 'our' money and the government is just a way, thinking ideally here, a way to organize society and maintain order by redistributing receipts taken from 'our' money.
