This is quite correct.  California was once a wonderful place, and it wasn't that long ago.

I think many of the problems facing California from a financial standpoint come from the fact that they are genuinely nice people that thought there was enough money to go around and take care of everyone regardless of their input into society...Also, the real estate market on the coast is a unique market driven in and of itself...many working class families have to leave after retirement to other states as they found most of their wealth and savings went into their home!

Yeah, the welfare system isn't helping, that's for sure.  To be blunt, the Libs from the Northeast and other places moved here in droves to escape crime, taxes, bloated bureaucracy, over regulation, and all the rest (poor schools, collapsing infrastructure, rotted out inner cities, etc), and have now installed the same Party that sponsors this here, and are getting those same results.

Having destroyed what we had in California, they're in the process of moving on and ruining the rest of the West - first Washington and Oregon, then New Mexico and Colorado, now Nevada, Arizona, even places like Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah.  Like a bunch of locusts.  Sorry, it's the truth.

I really like Tucson.  Beautiful mountains, desert, sunsets, just big enough to be a city but not so big to be a disaster.  It should be damn nice out there, right now  I hope the transplants from California don't screw it up.

Hi of 80 deg today! I'm working outside in the yard getting ready for fall planting...sugar snap peas, lettuce, kale...peppers are still going crazy and the tomatoes are coming back now after the heat!

Life is good! Now starts 8 months of 75 deg sunny days! and as always, no humidity! 

Honestly they really don't...they are more retired folks who don't have the zeal for political movements anymore....life is good in Tucson!

Thanks Barfly, but I did.  I moved from California to Arizona in '03 and to Colorado in '08.  I love the Southwest.  There is a Sacredness about it.  I can't explain it.  I just feel it.  This is an area for Aldous' expertise.

The transplants from California that you're talking about were ALL transplanted from somewhere else, prior to California.  A true California Native knows what honor and respect actually mean.

Half-way serious and kidding. Though I will admit there are some good Californians- unfortunately the bad ones seem to leave and more elsewhere. I don't mind people moving but they often drive house prices up, bring with them their tax & spend values, add to traffic, and bring other odd political ideas. And try to turn the place in which they move into California 2.0 instead of modifying their beliefs or trying to fit in.

I like Julian...in the mountains east of San Diego...great climate all year long! ... I really love California, used to live in La Jolla and Temecula,  and the people there are great!...I'm just not sold on the sun tax though...

Beautiful places, I know them well.  First I lived the So. Cal dream growing up, then the Nor. Cal dream later, then I got competely priced out and fed up with everything and moved to Ore. with multiple other refugees.  However, like paperboy alluded to, things are changing up here too, culture-wise, economy-wise, and for whatever reason climate-wise.  Maybe I'll put a down payment on some land in the Arctic Circle.
