I like your hat.

I certainly hope that ArtBell.com is not simply advertising Art Bell's Twitter account

And speaking of Twitter, I thought by now Art would have far surpassed a thousand followers. Even @DeaconPunnett is up to 10,000...

He amassed the limit of 5,000 friends pretty quickly on Facebook but that hasn't filtered through to his twitter account. Perhaps that is due to his infrequent postings on both venues. Also he doesn't have a soap box to advertise his social media platforms.

"Radio show?! Where in the world do you folks get this? I'm retired. I just wanted all my friends to join me in the exciting new technology known as 'Twitter'..."

I follow Art as close as anyone does, including keeping track of his Facebook account, and I had no idea his Twitter account even existed until yesterday. I don't think it's lack of interest so much as it is lack of awareness.

What station on Sirius would Art even go to?

YNOT

So I just noticed Art got rid of the morse code...
And at the bottom he does have his twitter...Maybe HorrowReporter is right?

Larkin

I didn't know about Art Bell's twitter account to around a week(?) ago when he posted on Facebook that he had one (I do follow Art Bell on Facebook, have for nearly as soon as his FB page went up).  His FB page is full of clutter of other people posting messages to Art, and Art Himself only posts there about 1-2 times a month.  I think if Art was more active on his FB page, he'd get people following him on Twitter too.  Also, many people who are active on FB are not active on Twitter.  I know of several friends who immediately had to sign up to Twitter for the first time after hearing that Art had a Twitter account.

I think this change from Morse code to actual text means that the Official Announcement cannot be far behind.  I really hope that Art does not get a show on Sirius, as I don't want to pay $50 for one of their radios, and then an additional $15 a month, but I will if it means I get to listen to Art again.  But note that their subscription packages vary.  For $15 a month, you do NOT get Howard Stern, but have to buy their more expensive monthly package if you want to listen to HS.  Am hoping that won't be the case if Art goes on Sirius.

I also think the point is very good that Clear Channel radio shows are no longer on Sirius, as of not too long ago.  When did that occur, anyone know?  Late May, early June?  Because it may very well have changed Art's mind about doing a show on Sirius, seeing that they now no longer carry ANY shows of Art's old nemesis, Premrad.

My final point:  I don't think he'd be leading us on in this fashion if he didn't have something in the works, and more than just him advertising that he's now on Twitter.  He's never led us on THIS concretely before:  both with reactivating his website with his old webmaster, and with posting on Twitter that, "This means what you think it means."  He knows FULL well that all his fans would immediately jump to the conclusion that him restarting his website and having "Wanna take a ride" in Morse code would mean that he was returning to radio.

Art wants another show like Fred Thompson wanted to campaign in 2008.

Kinda sorta

Larkin

Art has obviously really struggled with the decision, hence the false starts including walking away from at least one solid offer (that he hinted would have competed directly with c2c).  If he goes to Sirius, I don't feel that Art will compete very much with c2c, as most listeners of regular radio, of which I am a huge radio listener for many years, are very reluctant to pay for radio and are not Sirius radio listeners.  Hence, I feel that Art's show on Sirius, if it happens, will have a different audience than the one that is currently regularly listening to Coast to Coast AM.  Maybe this helped Art finally make a decision to return to radio, as it seems he did not want to directly compete with his old radio show.

Found this in an interview of Art by the C. Crane site from about 10-11 years ago.  Maybe this is a clue to what Art is thinking:

Years from now radio will probably follow Art's lead and integrate more of the Internet into the radio listening experience. For now though, Art seems to be one of the few radio artists who knows how to do it right. It's no surprise to find Art on XM Radio, or championing the possibilities of streaming radio on the Web. When I asked Art about the impact of digital or satellite radio his response was straight forward and honest: "I don't care how my show gets to people's ears, as long as they can hear it. Internet radio is stunted right now because of the RIAA. It was just taking off, when they stopped it."

If he hasn't changed his mind about that, he could well be going to Sirius.  I just hope, if so, that his show is on the cheaper $15 a month subscription.

This is Art's Facebook page and he opened it up to "Followers" recently, which means you can follow it without having to friend him (since you cannot friend him anymore; he's at the max amount of friends at 5000).

He's getting better with the Facebook page. Just followers still can't see much, as he hasn't opened up his privacy settings so they can interact, but they can at least see the main pic in a large format now. lol People should take it as yet another sign that he is going to have a new show soon. He hasn't changed his facebook settings in years.

Larkin

He has not been very active on FB, and I guess that's because he wished to remain a private person since he had retired.  If he does come out of retirement, I'd love to see him post comments on Facebook and Twitter much more often.  I wonder if he really will, though?  I don't recall him interacting on social media much at all "before," but then at the time that he retired social media had not become as prevalent as it is now.

Aw contrary. "What's the weather outside like today? Let's see, do I start my own radio network, or would I rather just go on the hammy for a little while? Hmmm. Let's start out by resuscitating my moribund radio career and then see how I feel this afternoon...."

Bingo. At this point, Art likes the idea of doing radio. It's just that work thing that's a problem. Plus having to talk with stupid people and never be able to let them know he thinks they're complete buffoons.

And I really resented Thompson's perfectly legitimate decision to be his usual lazy-ass self (it's been his rep for 30 years) for the very same reason I resent Art's dance: I desperately wanted him to do it, and I was terribly disappointed when he didn't.

Somewhere in there I do believe there are great words of wisdom.  Noory is indeed more committed to furthering his career and ego rather than actually being a good radio broadcaster.

I would love to know the exact post when your personality merged with JC.

If a merging happened then there must be a war going on inside you. The side that worships Art and the side the wants to throw him into the pits of boiling sewage.

Here's audio of Rollye's comments. Nothing that hasn't really been mentioned already but for those who want to hear it...

Sardondi, has it wrong, although a vast wasteland, it is in FR's mind.

Anyone for setting a Meetup with Ford Rock, Bill, is that his name, the atheist amateur astronomer, and Sabrina the male witch on Coast?  Some vigorous planning sessions are in the works if that can be pulled off.

Zoxo

Very long thread... And I'm not sure if anyone here has already mentioned this or not... but here goes.  I believe that Art is coming back to C2C. Not competing with it.  Just my opinion. He has said in the past that he does not wish to destroy what he has built.  I think that the producers of C2C were in touch with Art after he said he was looking at offers a couple of months ago.  I had chatted with George Knapp on FB last May, and we chatted about Art's possible return to radio. He had no idea till I filled him in.

Further to this, I am a streamlink member on C2C... I took a screen shot of the last chat that George Noory did... in the chat, Noory stated that "major news" is coming soon on the program.  I'm happy to share the screen shot of the chat if anyone cares to see it.

So... ya, I'm in the camp that he's going BACK, and am extremely excited at the thought of it. Art Bell is da bomb! Best host there, and I have missed hearing him!
