Having worked in the data storage industry for a decade I know the importance of backing up your data whether you are a company or an individual. I have multiple backups of all my data. Personal and business.

Why is everything "weird" now?  Of course, Noory's always been weird but now every other ad on the net promotes one "weird" trick, food, ingredient, you-name-it.  Shouldn't it at least be "one AWESOME Weird" you-name-it?  :  Besides, we all know there's more than one "weird" supplement, with Noory pushing both turmeric AND Carnivora.

Have you tried the old "stick it in a freezer" trick?  It's worth a shot.

That commercial makes no sense.  They are flying across the country for whatever reason, but they claim they need things like their tax records backed up. I don't know, but when I'm flying or driving somewhere, I really don't pay much mind to my tax records.

I have a lot of items collected over the years that I would love to sell on ebay. I am hesitant because I fear encountering lying buyers making it difficult and ebay judging in their favor.

does the drive spin up at all when powered? or does it just seem dead?

It has never been pro-seller, and will never be  pro-seller - any swings in any direction always lead to a better "buyer" experience.   Amazon does the same thing, except they make so much more money on their sales that when there is a case that the seller is probably right, Amazon takes the loss themselves.   For that reason alone, Amazon is the better site for sellers.

I remember a time a few years back when it was much easier to get refunds, open claims, etc. as a seller than it is now.  I had a nightmare experience a couple of years ago with a buyer who opened a "not as described" case on a high-value item (thousands of dollars) and claimed it wasn't as described due to a minor cosmetic issue.  It took months to resolve, with eBay/PayPal doing duplicate chargebacks and throwing up security blocks at every turn.  This was after they acquired PayPal, but hadn't really integrated it fully.  I've never sold anything on Amazon.

This is really enlightening. I use ebay as a buyer, but haven't ever sold anything, although I'm in the process of scaling down and want to dispose of a lot of my unnecessary possessions. Now I'm wary of using ebay, after hearing these stories. I don't want to use craigslist because I don't want anyone coming to my door, naturally, so now I'm at a loss as far as venues for selling my things. Any ideas?

Invest in an external this time.  Duplicate everything.  Hell, buy two and triplicate everything.  And keep a pile of flash drives somewhere.
