Everytime I see this thread title, I get so sad: because I know there isn't one chance in holy fuck that K_Dubb could ever stop being gay, so instead, I just involuntarily and instantaneously imagine him getting all teary-eyed about an unpaid bill or a dead puppy or a collapsed soufflé or something. Sad! Actual SAD.

Falkie do something.

Quote
If I speak of love in connection with dandyism, it is because love is the natural occupation of the idle.  But the dandy does not aim at love as a special goal.  If I spoke of money it is because money is essential to people who worship their passions, but the dandy does not aspire to money as an essential thing -- an indefinite credit might suffice.  He abandons this gross passion to vulgar mortals.  Dandyism is not even, as many unreflecting people seem to believe, an immoderate taste for toilet and material elegance. These things are for the perfect dandy only a symbol of the aristocratic superiority of his spirit.  It is the pleasure of astonishing and the proud satisfaction of never being astonished.  A dandy can be a jaded man, can be a suffering man, but, in the latter case, he will smile like the Lacedaemonian under the bite of the fox.

We see that, in some ways, dandyism borders on spiritualism and stoicism.  But a dandy can never be a vulgar man.  If he committed a crime, he might not fall, but if this crime arose from a trivial source, the dishonor would be irreparable.  May the reader not be scandalized by this seriousness in the frivolous, and may he remember that there is a greatness in all the follies, a force in all the excesses.  Strange spiritualism!  For those who are both priests and victims, all the complicated material conditions to which they submit, from impeccable toiletries at all hours of the day and night to the most perilous tricks of sport, are only 'gymnastics suitable for strengthening the will and disciplining the soul. In truth,I was not entirely wrong to consider dandyism as a kind of religion.

Whether these men call themselves refined, incredible, handsome, lions or dandies, all come from the same origin; all share the same character of opposition and revolt, all are representatives of what is best in human pride, of this need, too rare among those of today, to fight and destroy triviality.  From this is born, among the dandies, this haughty attitude of provoking caste, even in its coldness.  Dandyism is the last burst of heroism in decadence, a setting sun; like the declining star, it is superb, without heat and full of melancholy.

Baudelaire, from Le Peintre de la vie moderne, emphasis mine
