As I expected.  That's exactly why I immediately asked Art point blank why he posted on the BG "Art Bell" thread just as MITD went live.  At best it was disrespectful to his chosen successor, at worst it was a shot across the bow.  In either event, sounds like he thought Heather needed to be reminded who was in charge.

I can't tell if you think you're being serious or not. Shot across the bow? What, like they broke up or something?

shaman could be interesting

Yeah, Toltec shamanism has links with Carlos Castaneda who was talked about heavily yesterday. Could be good.

thought so  you were GOOD!!!!    he liked your question

It seemed like he tried to avoid the idea that similarities between the  Dogon's ancestors and Ancient Egypt and/or the ancient Israelites could be explained by cultural contact as opposed to visits from space aliens. He kept on with "genetic manipulation" or something like that.

Makes no difference what I think, that's why I asked Art.  My guess is my question will either be ignored or answered with a weak, "No offense intended, I didn't think about the time".

"...broke up or something"?  Sounds like 8th grade.

Is this guy supposed to be a bona fide shaman, or is he one of those Robert Ghostwolf gringos who like to cosplay as native Americans?

Castaneda? Nah, he was from south of the border in Peru. He's a nut, but really can't talk about Toltemic shamanism without bringing him into the discussion.

I know of no one who speaks like she does, with out of place patterns of pitch, phrasing, inflection, etc...  I must also add that, if I did know someone who talked like that, I would e-mail with them instead.   ::)

I must concur, and this is why I can't listen to her even if I wanted to. If I was captured for interrogation, she would be the ideal interrogator for me.  I doubt I would last long.

I could listen to her on GabCast...  Why?  Because she was revealing how she is...  The comment that really set off the alarms was a paraphrase of Joe Walsh or maybe her true mental process of "ev'rybody's so different, I haven't changed..."

I can't stomach her for a lot of reasons but her speech patterns drive me fucking insane.  If that was my only hope for sex, someone who spoke like that to me, I'd kill myself.

Sorry, as you were.

So if you dont listen why waste time here? Just to criticize for hours on end?
Go outside and do something analog, dont waste the time you have on this earth criticizing something you dislike.
Think about it, perhaps you should take a look in the mirror and figure out why you waste so much time belittling a show you dislike.
I dont know you, but i assure you most sane people dont listen to things they dont like and surely dont spend hours on a forum trashing it, and even worse if you spend time trashing a show you dont listen to.

You do have a point and I have no idea how much of Sean's day is taken up with Heather, but you can make the same point about most of the criticism posted on the Internet, on a variety of subjects. Actually, a lot of the criticism does have a purpose, even on BellGab.

Maybe Sean (or I) is (am) hoping that if enough people say something, the message might get through. Maybe things could change for the better. Complaining can definitely become irritating, even for the complainer, but humans haven't figured out a better way to express dissatisfaction and the desire for change.

Auslandia

Yes but you're criticizing somebody by basically telling her to stop being herself and start being someone different. That generally doesn't work. I don't know how someone's voice would suddenly change.

I drove a bobsled for 5 years.  In 1980, they completely changed the geometry of the run by installing refrigeration.  For two weeks, no one could get through Curve #2 without skidding sideways and losing a lot of sped.  I solved that one in a lucid dream.  I walked up and down the run looking at the curve, floated up above it, laid down in the run, watched other sleds skidding through it. When I woke up I knew how how to get through without skidding.  It was totally unorthodox, and something no one would have ever thought of. I told my brakeman to hold on in turn 2, that we were either going to get through it without skidding or we were going to tip over.  We got through it without skidding and I broke the track record.  It took about 7-8 days before people figured out what I was doing, so for at least 1 full race I had quite the advantage.

True story - 1979/1980 Lake Placid
Cool story.  I had family in that area and went for a ride from the half mile point.  I can't imagine going all out in a bobsled.  Must be quite a rush.

I am probably wrong Barfly, but I disagree with you most emphatically and sincerely about this.  People post their diverse opinions on a forum because they have become a part of that forum community.  They come to their forum community frequently to post their opinions both trashing and praising as the events in said forum life move forward.

In order to form an opinion to post, they first have to listen to things, both the ones they enjoy, and the ones they don't.

You're the sanity expert, of course. It's not as if you have turned yourself into Heather Wade's (peace be upon her delicately scented feet!) self-appointed spokesman on Earth, giving everyone fatuous assurances about what her intentions may or may not be. It's also a good job you weren't one of those dummies who thought that she'd be foolish enough to give her real name if she was so troubled by the idea of publicity. Neither did you go into sweaty one-handed perv mode as soon as you thought you knew her name, and start telling everyone about her exalted radio pedigree.

Sredni, as your Campaign Manager and spokesperson in the colonies, I must advise you that you are spreading yourself quite thin these days. I know the sudden and prolonged absence of YorkshirePud has been worrisome. (Next time come up with a safe word in English, nit Farsi). You should concentrate on aggravating your base of loyal supporters in the Falkie thread. This will free up some time for you to finish Part 3 of the Falkie Chirstmas Carol. I am fairly sure that is the only way I can convince people to sign the petitions to get you on the ballot. It's already too late for Iowa. Not to worry though, My source tell me that the locals there are wary of anyone with an accent so you didn't stand a chance in the caucus anyways.

Seriously man. You must stay the course and concentrate on your strengths. I know you are upset that Barfly went to Amsterdam and you didn't. Maybe next year when you have the big blue and white bird at your beck and call. Now, on with it man.  It will be Speing soon. Part 3 must be completed for your scheduled oratory during the equinox festival at The henge. Certain promises were made.

Auslandia

So I haven't finished the program yet but I'm wondering if anyone asked Laird whether he has any direct contact with the Dogon or is he just a keyboard researcher?

No, I was thinking more about replacing her than trying to fix her. It's about making a better show, not a better Heather. I can't speak for Sean or any other critics but there has been much said about having a different host in the MITD chair.

Well yes that makes sense but to what end?  There are plenty of other shows covering the same topics & guests in the same or very similar format.  What's the use of keeping this one going?

If Heather were to announce tomorrow that the situation had changed, Art was definitely not coming back and she was the new permanent host, then I would agree that MITD ought to end. And it wouldn't take long for the network to fully realize that the show needed a radical overhaul. (They'd rather save it, if possible, than end it.) It might be worth doing if they could find a host worthy of picking up the Art Bell torch. It wouldn't matter how many lessor shows were out there.

But if they're going to continue keeping the door open for Art's return, then at least find a better, more competent host. Most of the audience has probably left, however a decent host might be able to keep what's left from leaving over the next few months. Much longer than that and a 10,000 watt heater couldn't keep Art's seat warm enough.

I respectfully disagree. I am enjoying the show. No matter who they put in the chair it is still "not Art". We are a small piece of the subscriber pool. Don't get caught up in the mindset that your opinion carries more weight than it does.

Only time will tell if MITD can carry its own weight with Heather as host. If she decides she doesn't want the hassle anymore, that is fine with me, then shut it down.

What?   You disagree?   What a surprise.

Please, you've had your head up her ass from day one.  It's so far up there that there is no distinct line of where her colon ends and your head begins.  She's a fucking amateur at best...an obsessed Art Bell fan (just go though her comments ) who got lucky and met the object of her obsession.
No background in radio really, just some chick who thinks all the sudden she has the same skill set as 30 year broadcast veterans who actually earned their way to their seats.  Fuck that bullshit.

And fuck Art for just sitting back.  I'll always appreciate the shows he has done and still enjoy the old stuff, but..... EITHER QUIT OR DON'T, IT'S A TIRED GAME YOU PLAY ART, but whatever you do, quit coaching this chick and put someone in there who's been doing this shit professionally.  Get her the fuck out of there.

Fucking shit man, who is even left listening to this show other than the stragglers on this site?   Fuck sake...

Still better than C2C and 23 minutes of commercials per hour. You should check your BP.  Really.

Just took a look at the announcement:

QuoteEarly in his career, Marcus was extremely fortunate and privileged to befriend one of the most famous shaman of our time while studying in the UCLA library. This shaman, dubbed by time magazine as “the Godfather of the New Age”, later took Marcus under his wing and taught him the secrets of the Toltec shamanic path in a one on one apprenticeship over a period of 8 years before leaving this world in 1998 on his own quest for freedom. Marcus continues his shamanic research and practice today as one of the few remaining apprentices to the world famous anthropologist, best selling author, and shaman, Dr. Carlos Castaneda.

Have a feeling this is going to be a shit show; and I'm not sure how someone can apprentice under somebody deceased.
