George Knapp

Don't get too excited. If Noory finds out how excited everyone is to hear Knapp, he may try to get him fired. haha...but seriously. George sucks. And yes, that should be a great show.

What's that sound?  Oh, a sigh of relief.  It's Knapp nite again.

paladin1991

Great show so far.  This is a great pairing of host and guest.

Morgus

Knapp has no problem going a full 4 hours with one good guest like tonite.
Noory can't do that, in fact he has been doing more 1-2 hour interviews than 3 hour ones...

Paulidies is starting to bore me. I think he jumped the sasquatch after his Noory appearance.

I agree and the guy doesn't seem to have any ground breaking new information to warrant being on the show again.

It does feel like he expects way too much out of an agency that always seems be more financially strapped than it needs to be most of the time. And park rangers aren't meant to be detectives.

b_dubb

It seems obvious what the Park Service needs to do. Have they made an offer to Chuck Norris yet?  Have they asked for the help of Chuck Norris?

He was tainted by Noory.  He needs to call TaintCo.

Maybe it's like Alien, the first one was scary, then the rest weren't as much since you knew the drill, but still they were good.  Um, except Alien 3.  And, um the 4th one.  And AVP.  Never mind.

Anyway I'm still kinda enjoying it, if only since it's Knapp.  I mean he's jamming "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" as bumper music, that's cool.

Scully

Maybe I'm just a cheap date, but this is entertaining me.  I looooooove to hear about true mysteries.

Knapp is good.  Paulides spins a good tale.  Jorch is away. What's not to like?  ::)

This is hard to argue with.  Yep, I'm still aboard tonite.

paladin1991

Gotta call it a night, folks.  Enjoyed the show and my time with you all.

coaster

I quit listening after he said everyone in Colorado carries guns, so any sort of abduction would result in a shootout. I usually like listening to the guy, but that was nonsense.

zeebo

The stories seem to be getting creepier as the night wears on.  I just got up to double-check all the door locks.

Immy

Dave P signed off with a compliment for the Knappster: "I appreciate your professionalism"

In your face Jorch!  ;D

You suck.

I caught that, too. It was great.  ;D

I often don't bother to lock my door and had not even thought of it... I am off to check the lock before I head to sleep.  According to the story of the disappearing kid out of a locked house I do not know that it will do me much good... but tonight is a "locked door" night.

I would like to thank both Georges.  George Noory for leaving a professional the occasional slot and George Knapp for another great show.  I do believe that Paulidies may be my all time favourite guest... even out of those that Art had on (though I think that I skipped the Noory interview with him.  If not, it was so brilliantly conducted that I have completely forgot listening that night...)

Edit: Did anybody else notice Paulidies thanking Knapp at the end for the professionalism?  Anybody else think that might be a bit of a dig at some other host who has interviewed him?

VtaGeezer

GK delivers even if the topic isn't brand new.  Paulides has a very long way to go before even approaching the staleness of so many of Noory's rerun hacks who, if they themselves aren't are on a regular rotation, their New Agey BS is. One thing I'm always certain of when tuning in Knapp is that he won't be hosting a "we are one with the stars" fool like the jerk Garr was enthralled with on Saturday.

Morgus

At the start of the show last night, George Knapp mentioned he had just finished reading all of the guest's new book.
Thats in contrast to Noory who NEVER reads any of the guests' books and instead just tosses them all in a big closet to use to give away as prizes in trivia contests during open lines nights.

Yes it seems that Knapp often reads the guest's material, and further makes notes about specific elements that he'll use as conversation points.  It's a joy to hear someone who's not trying to fake their way through for a change.

Paulides is the best guest in the history of Coast to Coast hands down. He's great with Knapp. His shows on Bigfoot were great! This is about the 5 or 6th show he's done on missing persons. Thats about 3,000 less shows than they've done on UFO's and Ghosts. Just sayin.

I only wish there was some show in the archives from 1994 with Paulides and Bell.

Yes and if I heard correctly I think we get a Knapp double-feature next weekend.

NoMoreNoory

That would be sweet. Apart from his toe-curling introduction, Knapp is always a pleasure. I've already bought Paulides' books and I may go again. That said, I slightly share misgivings about where he's going with all this. The news that he's been consulting Whitley Strieber about the whole thing set alarm bells ringing, but the sheer mystery of it never ceases to entrance. You veer between natural/supernatural explanations. It's a serial killer sheltered by the Parks Service. It's Bigfoot, Thunderbirds. Aliens. Time-travelling inter-dimensional entities. All and none of the above. It doesn't matter. But disappearances from houses, city streets, the front and back of lines, abandoned cars etc. The kids who reappear, dead or alive, miles away, sitting on top of a hill they couldn't have climbed, the neatly folded clothes, bodies reduced to a few bones and a single tooth. Taken all in all, it is just the oddest, most compelling thing I've ever heard and I could listen to Knapp and Paulides discuss it for a very long time. It's the essence of what Coast should be.

What I got out of that was that he EVEN consulted with Strieber (as though he is open minded enough to consider every possibility without reservation... even going so far as to listen to Whitley...)  The guy seems smart enough to steer clear of throwing his lot in with Strieber... I hope...  What he really has going for him is a good mystery.  If he suddenly explains it away with abductions and anal probing he is just another Streiber.

This has to be the first time in years that I am actually somewhat excited.  I enjoy all Knapp shows, but there are never very many... I am thirsty for good radio but Coast rations "good" and is more miserly than Scrooge releasing anything approaching enjoyable.

In all fairness though, he has managed to color a dozen or so over the years.
