Nice stats, where do they come from? Other than your ass, that is...

[attachimg=1]

For some reason available stats on gun violence (including suicide) are years behind.  This could be due to budget cuts, and/or quagmires created by politics, I don't know.  But gun control opponents would not want something like evidence based statistical data showing the exorbitant costs to the American taxpayer associated with gun injuries and deaths to interfere with their own agenda.

What does this have to do with Ebola - are you suggesting we shoot infected foreigners just as they step off the plane?

You must have missed my previous comments. The Ebola hysteria generated by the media is uncalled for and irresponsible. Meanwhile ERs across the US struggle to cope with patients who are sick and dying from common diseases and injuries mentioned here earlier.  This panic will only drive even more people to our already overcrowded Emergency Departments, increasing wait times and potentially delaying care for those in greater need.

Fabrication. The only infectious airborne content there is from Breitbart.  That's the kind of fear-inducing crap that dim bulbs like Noory relish repeating.   It ought to be a felony to publicize bullshit like that during a time when a public panic could result.

Talk about a misleading headline. Why? For a bump in page hits I suspect.
Headline:
QuoteMEDICAL RESEARCH ORG CIDRAP: EBOLA TRANSMITTABLE BY AIR
Subheading:
QuoteThe highly respected Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota just advised the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) that “there is scientific and epidemiologic evidence that Ebola virus has the potential to be transmitted via infectious aerosol particles,” including exhaled breath.

There isn't any medical evidence, that I've seen anyway, that suggests this outbreak is airborne. I hope it never is airborne because that is when people will completely flip out. the majority of people who only read the headline, or scim over all the "possibles" and " has the potential to, be airborne"  in the article, now think Ebola can be transmitted through the air like the flu.
The people treating the patients should have bio suits and the proper gear to protect themselves, which is why they are advising caution in regards to the type of protective gear they wear.
This headline is just inaccurate and perpetuates fear in an already fearfull atmosphere.

Michael T. Osterholm, PhD, MPH, of the University of Minnesota and Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) warned people to not get comfortable with the current Ebola dogma:

He also urged them to get comfortable with uncertainty and be honest with the public about it. "We're making this up as we go. We have to be mindful that we're making it up," he said. "One of the worst enemies we can have today is dogma."

As an example of current dogma, he cited the view that Ebola virus cannot spread through the air. Many virologists, he said, are concerned about the possibility of airborne transmission, and certain Ebola species have been known to go airborne in primates.

In fact, it is not fabrication, but researched and documented. It is infuriating for me to have to listen to government health spokesman spew half-truths and lies, forcing people like me to have to parse their words to get at any modicum resembling truth, while those people without medical training must rely on these shills; however, I am encouraged by a resourceful news media who are finally asking appropriate questions, and trying to hold the government accountable for their misguided decisions.

About two-and-one-half months ago I posted on this forum, my thoughts about Ebola in general, and aerosolization in particular My Thoughts on Ebola.

With respect to my linked post, I would just add that when I wrote that, I never dreamed our government officials would be so incompetent so as to allow suspected Ebola patients to be treated in hospitals in disparate parts of the country not specifically equipped and trained in dealing with such deadly pathogens. I would now amend my post a bit by stating that, I see the general "threat level" of Ebola in this country is "raised," i.e., due to foreseeable but ignored risk-factors. Officials have, in my view, succumbed to political correctness when making decisions about how to best protect the citizenry of the United States.

My guess is that, if Ebola was in Iceland rather than on the African continent, flights from Iceland would cease. However, due to our first half-black, Kenyan-born interloper President, we dare not entertain the notion of temporary flight bans, due to perceived "racial insensitivities." </partial sarcasm off>

Perhaps more on how to navigate the government double-speak another time.

Democrats are too busy propagating the absurd notion that Republicans are responsible for Ebola.

Before you laugh it off, you may recall that, that same voting bloc bought
"if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor."

Its impolitic to say that Duncan was actually turned away from the hospital the first time because he had no medical insurance and was in Texas, where Gov. "Oops" Perry refused Federal health care (Obamacare)  funds on pure ideological grounds.  Would those funds have made TX hospitals less apt to send uninsured ER walk-ins home with a bottle of aspirin?  Nah.

It's REALLY impolitic to say that Duncan knew he had been exposed to the virus in East Africa and elected to transport himself to 'merica where he could possibly get better health care for a disease we barely understand...  I know, we have the Borg modern medicine shown on Star Trek to deal with such things...

The real question is why the fuck did this hospital allow 75 different workers around this guy?  My guess is it's a teaching hospital, but can't you fucking teach with cameras or something?  I mean 75 fucking people?   The people in charge of this hospital are as incompetent as the president and the CDC.

I vote medical teaching should be stopped in America. It's wasted. If teaching is in fact the reason for 75 people to have seen him? Maybe they hadn't seen a runny nose before? Who knows?

For those of you with a brain who realize that the government isn't doing enough, whatever that means to you, and haven't already contacted your representative and senators, I suggest you immediately go find their website and send them an email demanding action.    I'm not suggesting people panic by any means, but the government isn't showing any kind of real leadership here.

I just heard on the local radio that nurses at numerous hospitals in my area haven't even been informed about what to look for in regards to ebola.  Same goes with the ambulance personnel.   Apparently the effort has been only directed at the 5 hospitals in the nation that are set up to handle these cases.   I guess they forgot that people typically go to their local hospitals first.   Frankly, I'm shocked that this information isn't just out there all the time (and with regards to all communicable diseases/viruses), but especially during the last few months.

I don't want to sound alarmist, but I also don't want to be sitting here 6 months from now listening to the news reports that there are thousands of people infected in our country.   The best thing we can do as citizens of this nation is to contact the people who can do something about it and be a constant ringing in their ear until they act accordingly.  Once you've emailed your politicians, spread the word to your family members, friends, facebook, twitter/whatever and tell them to do the same.

it takes a lot of people to make the magic happen. Think about it. Think about how long he was there, and all the doctors, technicians of sorts, nurses, aids, various staffers, around the clock on different shifts and on different days. I'd say 70 - 75 would be a reasonable number if not on the low side.

Bullshit.  He wasn't in the hospital that long.  You don't need a lot of nurses or doctors to look in on the guy - maybe 3 a day plus maybe a couple doctors?  Add a few room/garbage cleaners.   Many hospital workers work for a week and then take a week off, so double that number.   Pray to your Jesus FTF.

Sure I do. For instance, I know you obviously haven`t the slightest notion of how a hospital operates. If you did, you would understand  how many people within that hospital (I include the paramedics) are potentially impacted by an infectious patient -- including post-mortem.

I wonder how many Americans being infected it would take for this President to be shown the door.  There is a number, and I don't think it's all that high given his incompetence and inaction on this issue and others lately.

The country in an uproar, majority of the House, 67 Senators.  A dreary Biden caretaker Presidency..

They wouldn't even have to tell him, just pack him a lunch, hand him his golf bag every morning, and put him on Biden's helicopter with his Styrofoam cup to salute with.

Obviously you are king of all knowledge, including your wonderful beliefs of an afterlife.  If your heaven is so great FTF, why aren't you in Africa treating ebola victims yourself with all this hospital knowledge of yours?  Not only would you be doing good work for god, but if you happened to die of ebola yourself, you'd be right there with him.  Sounds like a win win to me!

You constantly make arguments that you don't back up.  If you really want to *prove* 75 workers dealt with him directly - list them out.
