When the going gets weird the weird turn pro. But when it's this effed up, the pros move to a tiny Mexican village lair with no internet. If you end up there, ask for Senor Aldous and the first cerveza will be on me. Know that I will miss throwing spitballs with you alls.
Disconnect.

"He's winding down, folks. He's winding down..."

Yes, this DOES suck. Seriously, man. If you leave now the terrorists Noories win. Don't leave now.

This exactly.

Art is the talent but Ramona was the brains behind Art's brand. It would appear Art didn't have sufficient representation in this deal. So sad.

Someone else mentioned upthread "The Late Shift" which shows how the suits control everything behind the scenes. Here's a link to watch it, just make sure your pop-up blocker is on at the beginning:

Noory is so full of it...no way does prem rat ever allow DM to be on the same channel as c2c before after whatever...could u just imagine people hearing the two show in close proximity to each other. The mass exodus from c2c to the AB DM show would have exceeded anything Moses could gave done leading the Jewish people to the promised land from the evil clutches of the likes of dirtbags like snoory, prem rat ah I mean the Egyptians. ..

Producer Paul hasn't been on in a while. Perhaps Art is rallying the troops for D-day?

The whole deal with Art's son and david oats was in the late 90s. If he had such a great disgust for Clear Channel, why didn't he quit way back then?  A NC back then would have been up shortly and he could have went to another network way back then.  I really don't get any of this anymore.  He was huge with CBC days is CC the only company out there?  Why stick with CC for another 10 years if you hate them so much?

If George Noory is to be believed, they were negotiating for months prior to Art Bell leaving Dark Matter. I don't think he's lying about that.
Reading some of these posts, there are those who believe both Noory and Art are lying.   :o

Some would have us believe that Art signed a contract with Sirius knowing that:
1.  His show would be a lead-in for C2C
2.  C2C would be using the same intros and bumper music as he
3.  C2C would be watching Art's upcoming guest list so they could either poach his guests, or blackmail them
4.  C2C would be competing with him for the same sponsors
5.  C2C would be broadcast free to hundreds of AM stations, as well as on XM satellite
6.  C2C would steal Art's new taglines, such as "Raging into the Night"
7.  C2C would continue to have the legal right to broadcast Art's classic SIT shows in their timeslot
8.  Art was so desperate to agree to the above deal that he accepted $75K salary

Yes, SiriusXM invested some money in building Art's studio and advertising his show, probably less than $100K.    At the same time they were building that studio, they were actively negotiating new contract terms with C2C, as Noory has said.  C2C has been a major show on SiriusXM, with a broad reach on AM radio and an established audience.  Throwing $100K at Art's launch would provide fantastic leverage for SiriusXM to get the upper hand in their bargaining position with C2C.

Premiere Radio and SiriusXM both had a battalion of high-priced lawyers throughout these past months.  Art had Bob Crane and Producer Paul, no agent, and maybe (?) one lawyer, if that.

Art was a pawn, and he got played.  It may be that he was naive in believing all was as it seemed during his initial negotiations with SiriusXM, that they were as excited to have him in their lineup as he was to be on the air again.   Logic tells me that either this is the case, or Art signed a contract knowing full well everything in #1 - #8 above.  To me, the latter is highly unlikely.

The whole situation makes me want to projectile vomit in Noory's eyes and pizza roll burned mouth.

Wow, I missed a lot while gone. Three theories:

Theory 1)  Art signed with SXM in an attempt to cock block C2C who were trying to resign with SXM, and ended up quitting because he just wasn't that into it.

Theory 2)  Art found out about C2C and SXM being in negotiations, this pissed him off and he used streaming as an excuse to move on.

Theory 3)  Art wasn't that into the new show, quit, regretted the backlash, tried to make SXM out as the bad guy...SXM didn't much care for this and went out and signed C2C, partly as an f-u move and also to fill the slot. Gnoory, obviously, hates Bell and the feeling's mutual.

If anyone had technical issues streaming Dave's shitty show last night, please post your technical issues in the following thread I started

http://bellgab.com/index.php?topic=5243.0

Please use small trailer park words that Jorch, Tommy and Slieesa can understand.  Don't get too technical.  Leave that for Coz.

Got a 1001 error today streaming Stern.  It does exist!!!!  ???

art can't blame anyone but himself. ;)

It takes two to tango, but I think Art's ultimatum pushed SXM over the edge. Apparently, he needs them more than they need him.

Stan_Holeman

All I know for sure is that this will go down in infamy as some gangsta-ass shit--old-school radio hardball.  I don't know who tried to fuck whom, but I know who got fucked in the end...Art and DM fans. Art is feeling some payback....who knows if it's deserved.

Also, Noory is full of shit and played Gabcast off like suckers. He pretended he didn't know what was going on, and he clearly is intimately involved with the whole thing. "We didn't poach any guests"...yeah right.

Noory plays the nice guy act pretty damn well.

Arts fans wanted a show. well were defiantly getting a show now.

As much as I hate to say it, Art set himself up for this. It was wrong and shady as hell what Dave and coast did, but Art didn't protect himself enough.

Ok I have something to say, CONTENT COUNTS. When I was with CC and was told to name my own price, it
was fewer commercials per hour. When I started with SXM I did four Hours and if you check you will find that
at least 3 1/2 of those hours were pure content.

Anybody can take four Hours and fill with a "nice guy" plus two and a half Hours of commercials and breaks
as well as Medical advice and promo's about how to invest 13 cents a day and call it a show.

The deal I offered should have been snapped up because as I have said it was a big win-win for everybody
concerned. That it was not, as of yet, still makes me believe there are other things at work here, only time will
tell. But I promise you this I did not WANT to quit, I was in a situation where the road forward was not viable.
I still want to be on the air now, I hope you all believe that and if I can find a way to be, I WILL.

                                                                                                                             Art

George has learned how to fill bottles with air and sell them as elixirs of life.  Art, haven't you learned yet that 3x5 cards are the key to a successful show?  Especially when you ask a question that was addressed 3 minutes ago?

George loves dead air time between commercials and the rest is filled with incoherent mumbles.  That's what they call a show.

Well, going forward Art does have at least ONE powerful card to play.  In two years his non compete expires (even accepting that it is ironclad, something I dispute, and even if it IS that still leaves the possibility of off shore broadcasting). If Sirius, declines to offer something reasonable ie an Independent contract where he can broadcast on Sirius, and stream, then he can make it clear that he will be going with such a plan in two years, possibly head to head against C2C on a rival network such as Cumulus.  Granted Art will be two years older, but I would submit that the Art Bell "brand" has a power unto itself and that even if he only "oversaw" host and guest selection along with other input that it would provide powerful C2C competition that would eventually surpass C2C (unless quality on C2C significantly improves or the rival show(s) under Art couldn't deliver).  One thing is I believe essential if Art is going to stream. Offer an App both in Apple and Android to facilitate streaming of your shows, and back shows (via a free and premium version for the past shows).  Tech, idiots like myself have trouble figuring out how to listen to shows like Ground Zero because I don't want to download old MP3's, I want an App which makes it simple.  Now if he works out a deal with Sirius then he probably won't be able to offer the old shows outside of Sirius, but he can still have a streaming app for Smart Phones and Internet radio devices.

Art isn't going on Sirius again. He isn't going on Premiere. I think he's probably burned all his bridges at this point. ...The only thing to bear in mind is that these radio fights are completely personal and management moves on pretty frequently. So, nothing is totally set in stone.
