Art Bell

Juan

All I'm saying is that the original post, some 200 pages ago now, said that Art had renewed his "AM" license on a specific date in June and that the license applied to microwave.  I took this to mean he had received a commercial radio license (different than a ham license) and something that would be needed if he is going to uplink to a satellite from his home as he used to do.

BTW, I'm monitoring Rush and he just mentioned the news reports speculating that he would be removed from Cumulus stations.  He assured the audience that he would be heard on even more stations if that happened.  Cumulus does some strange things.  I know of two 50kw stations in Georgia that had carried University of Georgia football broadcasts since the early 1930s.  When Cumulus bought the stations, they stopped carrying the games.

So is there any documentation of this magical mystery license anywhere? Or is this just something someone heard somewhere and now everyone is running with it and repeating it?

Late last week, someone here made reference to a new Microwave license being granted in Pahrump, Nevada. No source was cited as far as I remember. Unless I missed it referenced later on, because I believe someone asked for clarification.

I think we are confusing a 'Microwave' license with a AM radio license... two very different things. Art never had an AM radio license. A microwave license would make total sense if he were doing the broadcast from home (or even KNYE).

Anyone heard details on noorons contract?

You might be right. This thread, and the traffic here has been insane the last few days. This thread was what... 150 pages over however many years, and now it's been 200+ pages added in the last few days. Anyone who says Art Bell isn't news need only look at the traffic in this thread!

AP, Reuters probably won't mention Art's plans. You know, uh, news sources.

I think this is the nail on the head AWGUY, KNYE is FM at 95.1 not AM and yes Art would need a license for the satellite link which he had used before and if the license expired then he would need a new one or if within the grace period renew of the old.  I haven't had time to dig into the FCC data base to see but I think this could be it and would fit Art since doing the program from home would help his family life schedule a lot.  He could do a night show while Asia sleeps and then catch a few winks then be up to see her off to school then back to the sack for a few more then up for her to come home then a nice family dinner then maybe get show preparations ready then a quick nap then show time.

I'm his age and quite honestly that would work for me if I had that type of a job.

That's it! THE ANNOUNCEMENT is that Art is going to get his license renewed. Right after he feeds the cats.

No, clearly the announcement is that Art and the GIS have been given their own ghost hunting show on SyFy. They're going to deal exclusively with haunted litter boxes.

Yeah, you're right. One of the highest rated DJs in the history of radio coming back isn't news. I'm sure everyone will ignore the announcement when it happens.

I got my FCC license back in the late 80's. With it one could engineer and do on air hosting duties on either AM or FM stations. These licenses were mandatory and required close to a year of semester classes, not to mention passing tests to show you could competently engineer and operate a broadcast board before the FCC license was granted.

They are (were) valid for the Lifetime of the holder.

That was back in the late 80's so as MV said it might of changed. However if you speak on an AM or FM station you are responsible to stay within the rules set down by the FCC which still regulates the "air waves" in the US.

I'm absolutely right. "Highest rated". So ain't Rick Dees, Steve Dahl, Jim Rome...

I know this point rattles you. But Art has 1/10 the the name recognition of Stern or Larry King. Art has had success in ONE medium. In the overnight hours. No Hollywood movie, no long running primetime CNN show.

...and he's been out of the game for a long time.  As I stated earlier, he will need to rebuild his audience.

Bullshit. Produce audio evidence. Not your transcription. But HOWARD saying it.

Or was that a private conversation you had with Howie and Beth O at the Hamptons?

I just took a look at the KNYE website to see if any news could be gleaned and NADA.  Same page from 3 years ago.

I looked at it the other day also.  It looks like someone forgot about the web site.

I just fear we're going to log onto Art's site and find the white letters changed to SUCKERS with each letter linked to a different episode of Beeyon Bleef.

I'm referring to something he said on the air, what... 15 years ago? If you can think of some way for me to isolate and find 10 seconds of audio out of a source of a five day a week radio show that runs for four hours over a number of years then let me know, I'll do it.

I hope the announcement is about when a real announcement will be made or

kinda makes the point.  Art was that well known 15 years ago.  Perhaps not so much today.

Why isn't Drudge all over this?  So much for gumshoe reporters.  I wouldn't expect any outfit such as AP to do any breaking news.  They're happy to sit back and wait to serve as the ministry of propaganda.  Oh, and keep us up to date on the Kardashians, Lindsay Lohan, and Miley Cyrus.  ::)

I just hope the announcement is a world tour of noory signing Elvis. Noorys singing is like the music of angels.

        As I thought.

Anyways, as someone who listened religiously to Stern from 1991-2007, I cannot recall him EVER, especially in the 1998 era, suggesting that any other radio personality had more listeners than him. Ever. He was in 10th place in Chicago in 1995, yet insisted he was beating Mancow.

I agree he's going to need to rebuild his fanbase. I've said it multiple times when stating my reasoning for the fact that he needs to do a full time show in order to do so.

We'll see how it goes. This is kind of uncharted territory for someone of Art's popularity to come back after such a long time off. I hope for and expect good things, but of course there is the possibility it could go the other way. Let's hope its all aces though!

Is art washed up?

If you remember that far back... You would maybe even remember what I am talking about if you think about it. Remember when he used to brag about how many listeners he had when the ratings came out? He would go on and on about it for probably 30 minutes. Right about the time he was really breaking as a nation wide radio personality. When this thing with Art Bell came up, he used it as a chance to make fun of Art's listeners, saying that "the only guy who has better ratings and wider syndication than me is that guy who talks to all the nutcases about the aliens(Art Bell)". I'm paraphrasing because as you can see, I don't have an audio transcript. The only reason I even noticed it is because I was such an avid fan of Art at the time, I thought hearing about him on Stern's show was cool since I would listen to both Art and Howard's shows while trying to sleep on the bus before after, but it also bummed me out because he was making fun of Art's fans, which included me. I'm willing to concede that he may have been speaking about a specific major market, but I seem to remember it was overall.

Truthfully though... You really must realize that trying to get audio of older shows like that before the internet was in every home is difficult, particularly if you don't have a date, and even then it can be difficult. I'd do it if I could man. I know there are some people here who think Art is going to fall flat on his face with this, but I (clearly) don't feel that way. I don't even see it as a realistic possibility, particularly given the popularity of paranormal and alien type shows these days. They are far more popular now than they were when Art and C2C were at their best, and peek.

I was thinking the same thing ItsOver

Drudge interviewed Art for some radio hall of fame thing a few years back, i thought he would at least be covering Art's Return.

Lol arts listeners are nutcases. That's not controversial. I always thought stern respected bell for his high ratings.
