Just checked the Houston setlist and saw nothing from Sabotage, which is a bummer because it's not only my favorite Ozzy era album, it's in my all time top 10 altogether.

Vol. 4 is my favorite, although I would have preferred Supernaut to Snowblind, but Sabotage is a close runner up for me, so bummed as well.  They did play Dirty Women from Technical Ecstasy, which was a nice surprise.

"Dirty Women" was on the '98/99 reunion setlist as well, so that seems to be their favorite(or the one Ozzy can handle)  from Technical Ecstasy.
I'm a big fan of Vol 4 as well(had the T Shirt in high school, with Ozzy's "Nixon" thing) and would like to see them do "Wheels of Confusion" or even "Cornucopia"

He liked it a lot, but doesn't have a lot to compare it to.  Only his second concert, first being Kiss a couple years ago. He was disappointed they didn't play his favorite song - Symptom of the Universe -, but loved the drum solo, and Geezer's solo ("Basically") before N.I.B.  we both agreed N.I.B.  was the highlight - it was about half an in, band was warmed up, heavy as hell, and Ozzy's voice still fresh.

"Oh, Yeah!"

I've taken each of my kids to several concerts each - they like them ok, and they certainly know the music, but it isn't the same for them the way it was when I was their age going to concerts.  Of course I wasn't going with my parents either...

They don't have the epic Coliseum shows every few weeks all summer like they used to.  It seems like there are maybe 1 or 2 a year that come thru here now, with the rest at Arenas or even smaller venues.

I've been on a Steve Winwood kick today... Traffic, Blind Faith, etc, etc... but the real story is this piece of art right here.  Best video evar?  Possibly... I love getting flashlights shined in my eyes...

Steve Winwood - While You See A Chance

I love living in Texas, but tonight I am homesick for my beautiful hometown of Montreal:

Montreal's finest rock band, the triple guitar threat that was April Wine.  Must have seen these guys dozens of times.  (Check out the awesome seventies hairdos!):

Anyone here ever heard Carrie Rodriguez? A local girl we're pretty proud of here in Austin:

Carrie Rodriguez "La Punalada Trapera"

And then there's Dale Watson who finally hit the big time on Letterman last month  8)

I saw her as the first band to come out on a 3 band night.  She may have been the best part of the whole thing.

Although that night she played fiddle and was more rock than this video is.

That's great you got to see her. She tears it up on the fiddle. Her first album was with Chip Taylor and she really gave a wide showcase to her abilities but has since found herself within the southern/Texas rock scene. She likes to get back to her roots every now and then though and I thought this song was a pretty good example of her strength. Where did you see her anyway?

At the Fillmore in San Francisco 2 or 3 years ago.   The other two bands were Alejandro Escovedo and Los Lonely Boys.  I don't really keep track, but I know she had a gig at Freight & Salvage a few moths ago in Berkeley because a friend went.

We're lucky around here, so many good bands come through all the time.

Both of the others are also Austin acts, both with some national fame now, but I'd walk over both of them to see Carrie  :)  And SF still one of the best places in the country for music, indeed.

Have you ever seen Junior Brown? He's like Rick Nielsen's (Cheap Trick) country cousin. He's a great guitarist (love his personal concoctions), and his videos are fun to watch. He's a showman and virtuoso with a good sense of humor.

Junior Brown is fun though I've never gone to one of his shows. He still regularly plays at the Continental Club, where Dale Watson still plays too. I remember the first time I saw his double neck "guit-steel," I was blown away.

Thanks for posting that. He's such a trip! :D He made this wild black-and-white video, with a beautiful blonde amazon in it, that was one of the funniest clips out there. The model must have been 6'4 or so.

Another show featuring a couple bands from your area I saw awhile back was headlined by The Gourds with James McMurtry as the opening act.  First time I've seen a box of toothpicks used as a percussion instrument (Gourds).

Is Rosie Flores still playing gigs?

I would love to spend a few days in Austin sometime checking some of the up and coming bands out.  I have to admit to having a severe allergy to burnt orange though    :)

I'm not a huge follower of Mcmurtry or the Gourds but most people here still flip for them. Definitely keep things weird in Austin :)

That's funny you should mention her, Rosie is playing the Continental Club tomorrow night. She still plays all the time and all over the country though she's always back in Austin every few weeks (August 31 is officially Rosie Flores day in Austin btw). She's a lot of fun too with her rockabilly (Junior Brown used to be her bass player, I think) but I really fell for her when she teamed up with Dave Alvin:

Rosie Flores & Dave Alvin "Goodbye Again"

And I'm on strike against the burnt orange until Mack Brown is gone. Had enough of his destruction here.

Clicking around YouTube, turns out she's also been collaborating with Marti Brom, I hope they head out this way

Doesn't look like they'll be out your way this year anyway, just Wisconsin and Illinois (with Marti Brom) on her schedule.

Always cool to find another Rosie fan  8)

Your welcome, he IS a trip. Was that "Highway Patrol" you are referring to? Can't go and check at the moment.

Just found it, it was the "official" video for My Wife Thinks You're Dead. I don't remember seeing that before, pretty funny.

It IS cool. Scofield is a super talent. I used to have his East Meets West album, wish I still did.

Here he is playing with Jaco:

Great song, and I like the video for obvious reasons.

Thanks to RealCool Daddio (and the person he was conversing with, I don't remember!) for talking about Beyond the Lighted Stage.  I watched it last night based on your recommendation and it was pretty darn entertaining.

I have a couple of Rush albums and one nose-bleed concert experience from the Vapor Trails tour (which I recall being good fun nonetheless), but now I'm going to give some of the other albums that I'm not as familiar with a listen.  I also now have a crush on Neil Peart... which is, as I've found out, the very last thing he'd want to hear...

I have some nights by my lonesome that I need to fill this week.  You guys have any other recommendations for good music docs?

Oh, and I love the last line where Geddy says something along the lines of "you'll be amazed by how boring we really are." Very charming.

My favorites are 'Festival Express', 'Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii', 'No Direction Home', 'Stop Making Sense'.  No doubt a lot of people have seen most or all of these..
