Wow.  ;D

I'm guessing she will be going away for a bit. "Exhaustion" or something will be claimed. Wasn't a good career move, even in Alaska.

The mayor looks like a real sleazeball and typical of the type.

Maria is definitely not a BellGabber.

I think she could be...with Jackstar’s help. ;)

Nice!! I never been there. But "North to Alaska" seems like it might be a good option!  Know many who go/been. Some interesting characters up there. And the politics is nutso. Seriously knew someone who worked an oil deal, well potential oil deal, for the better part of his career. Lease language kept changing and new negotiations when a change in the govt and 'back to drawing board.' Decades trying to do a certain lease in an area. And he said it was basically known it wasn't gonna get done but 1) company didn't want other competitors to potentially get it 2) locals derived so much money from the various surveys, plans, wine and dines, donations, etc 3) tax write-offs 4) sunk cost fallacy- this guy was the 'expert' on it so keep him on it. He said it was sort of hilarious. The new people in agency would request re-dos and same paperwork, new politicians would demand redone survey and negotiations, Natives would interject for various concessions, new bosses at company internally didn't want to touch so "keep at it," etc. Like a Bleak House scenario.

This guy was more an East Texas big guy. Who figured, get paid. Get to fish, drink, have trips from family up there, and no problems at the office because the 'deal' became his life and resigned to it. Sort of like some kind of military adjunct position or something. No more rank coming, but no firing and ensured pension. This was at time when the industry was better tho. Murders Row now due to low energy prices.

I wonder how Akwilly is doing these days. And his pup. Is poo still being burnt in beer cases and such.

You folk don't like the darkies.
It isn't a "like" question. Actually, sadly, Norway (country, not the late night radio host) takes in too many of them, particularly in Oslo. But more of a pratical matter- for their own safety. Can you imagine importing some Sub-Saharan into a white colored landscape and cold? The bears might mistake for a seal! No camouflage at all! The loincloth would quickly be no protection from the cold! The confusion he would suffer trying to boil water at a higher elevation and colder clime- how could he ever get the captured missionary properly stewed! It is for their own good, after all. No "hate." or even "dislike."

Those pics were from Alaska. Not Norway. Just the Norskie types abroad and descended. Who often like to pick even bleaker or colder scenarios when emigrating. Though Norway is beautiful and Alaska would be a good choice, also has fjords. North Dakota? I guess a segment just said "I'm sick of walking up hills or dealing with fish"   ;)

He is Dutch, well Spanish but Dutch tradition. Swarte Piet, I mean. Sinterklass's 'helper.' And if you were a bad child he will put you in his sack and take you to Spain with the Moors!

Careful. These could be considered fighting words. Get ready for K_Dubb to demand a holmgang and/or rap-battle at a crossroads soon.

Politics is Old West, jocular and corrupt with plenty of room for unpolished shysters and other characters, the way the NW was generally up until maybe the 80s.  Unbelievably vast stretches of undeveloped rocky coastline and islands, and that's just in SE.  I think you would love it.  I don't know what you are doing down there; we need the salt water for our souls.

Sorry...Nordic gays...is that accurate?  ;D

The word in Norwegian is nordmann, literally a north man.  It is not a country as much as it is a compass orientation.

A good point. We have saltwater but too balmy. Not as refreshing. I like bracing water temp. The weird thing I don't get is that many beaches elsewhere which such (west coast, Holland, etc) don't allow, or get, the idea of coolers of beer or driving on the beach. Maine is very nice, seawise. Rough and taste the salt big time. Big wood also. (Though there also politics has happened and you got the politician summer folks.) I want freedom on the beach also. For me. Not the hoi polloi. Not rental beach tents or bans on open fires, driving, fishing, or open containers. Having said that I also pick up my trash (and even have bags to pick up others) and will put out fires completely, though, admission, I will let rage and get big beforehand.

I seem to recall some woowoo type guest on C2C once who had some elaborate theory with regard to saltwater, the moon, salt in blood, and humans. And value of salt in economics. Tied a lot of things together.  ;)

There is a pretty visible Jewish community in Anchorage that actually does what you might call outreach:  big (well, for Alaska) Hanukkah shows to which they invite the general public called "Cirque de Hanukkah".  One year I was up there for Christmas and they had taken over a vacant supermarket right next to the liquor store, set up a giant menorah in the parking lot, kids with dreidel spinning, etc.

The next day when we went to get more rum for the egg nog everything had vanished and the storefront was dark and empty and my big sis turns to me and deadpans "well I guess it was just one of those fly-by-night Hanukkah outfits."  I think it was the best thing I have ever heard anyone say.
