No show tonight.
Noory works Christmas and holidays because he knows that people do not have a life outside of listening to a broadcast.  How could you abandon your loyal fans?  I suppose that is the difference between a true professional like Noory who only takes time off after eating a pizza roll and everybody else.  :P

Using the Windows 10 Technical Preview? Microsoft might be watching your every move to help with feedback

One of the main goals with the Windows 10 Technical Preview is for Microsoft to collect feedback to help shape the final version of the operating system, which is said to be coming sometime in summer 2015. The Technical Preview requires users to register with the Windows Insider Program, which allows users to submit their own feedback about the operating system... but is Microsoft collecting more than what you think you're submitting?

Taking a closer look at the Privacy Policy for the Windows Insider Program, it looks like Microsoft may be collecting a lot more feedback from you behind the scenes.

Microsoft collects information about you, your devices, applications and networks, and your use of those devices, applications and networks. Examples of data we collect include your name, email address, preferences and interests; browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data; device configuration and sensor data; and application usage.

This isn't the only thing Microsoft is collecting from Insider Program participants. According to the Privacy Policy, the company is collecting things like text inputted into the operating system, the details of any/all files on your system, voice input and program information.

One of the more interesting bits of data the company is collecting is text entered. Some are calling this a keylogger within the Windows 10 Technical Preview, which isn't good news. Microsoft is collecting data on text entered as is it trying to improve auto correct within the system, however I don't think many users will be happy with Microsoft watching text being inputted into the system. One concern would be whether or not Microsoft can see when you input a password or bank details.

I think the video about the preview for windows 10 was in another thread (it was the preview by the guy who personifies everything that is wrong with the world today- and Microsoft as well being as he leads some team for windows...)  Anyhow, in that video you already knew that they were collecting a ton of data and that they knew what parts of different menus were and were not used in their versions.

Provided they keep the spyware and keyloggers on their preview versions that people sign up for and not their commercial versions that I pay for I really will not care that much.  If Microsoft gives you the preview and you are stupid enough to install it knowing that they will be watching everything that you do it is your own fault.

The real problem is that I doubt they will take all of the spyware out of their retail versions.  Once a company gets hooked on "free" data and is able to lie to themselves to say that it is only "to help enhance the user experience" they rarely give privacy back.  Look at facebook (among others.)

Open source software is one of the only reasons that I use an Android.  I know that it comes loaded with spyware and bloatware- but I can remove it and get my system down to collecting only the data that I wish to transmit (and am at least aware of what threats I cannot remove.)  You will never find me with a windows phone, and I have already got rid of most of the programs Microsoft wants me to use and found alternatives.  I have looked at Linux (again) and if they do not reign themselves in I will simply switch my OS.  They may believe they are the only game in town- but they may find out that more and more people are getting serious about having some security and privacy online.

Researchers Release USB Exploit & Incomplete Fix on GitHub

Now that a working exploit of the USB vulnerability that’s baked-in to the USB standard has been released, it might be a prudent move to no longer employ any USB devices that aren’t already under your control until this situation has been fixed.

The exploit was first made public two months ago at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas when Karsten Nohl and Jakob Lell of Berlin based Security Research Labs (SRL) demonstrated an attack they called BadUSB to a standing-room-only crowd.

In one demonstration, the pair used a USB memory stick loaded with malware that caused the computer to think it was a keyboard. According to the BBC: “After just a few moments, the ‘keyboard’ began typing in commands â€" and instructed the computer to download a malicious program from the internet.”

VeraCrypt a Worthy TrueCrypt Alternative

A fork of TrueCrypt's code, VeraCrypt strengthens the open source encryption software's transformation process and addresses other weaknesses.

If you're reluctant to continue using TrueCrypt now that the open source encryption project has been abandoned, and you don't want to wait for the CipherShed fork to mature, one alternative that's well worth investigating is VeraCrypt.

VeraCrypt is also a fork of the original TrueCrypt code, and it was launched in June 2013. IT security consultant Mounir Idrassi, who is based in France, runs the project and is its main contributor.

Idrassi's motivation for developing VeraCrypt stems back to 2012 when he was asked to integrate TrueCrypt with a client's product. Before doing this he carried out a security audit of the code and discovered some issues. "There were no big problems, no backdoors or anything like that. But there were some small things, so we decided to start VeraCrypt," he said.

James Comey has been director of the F.B.I. for only just over a year, but he's already making encryption one of the of the defining issues of his tenure.

In a Thursday speech titled “Going Dark: Are Technology, Privacy and Public Safety on a Collision Course?” at the Brookings Institution in Washington, Comey will continue his vocal crusade against encryption by once again criticizing Apple’s choice to offer strong encryption on iPhones by default, The New York Times reports.

October 16, 2014 â€" This morning Wikileaks published a second leaked draft of the Intellectual Property chapter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The draft confirms people’s worst fears about Internet censorship. That’s according to community-based organization OpenMedia, which is leading a large international Fair Deal Coalition aimed at securing balanced copyright rules for the 21st Century.

“It is hugely disappointing to see that, yet again, Canadians - and members of the public worldwide - have to be informed about these critical issues through leaked drafts, instead of through democratic engagement on the part of governments and elected officials,” said OpenMedia Campaigns Coordinator Meghan Sali. “When will our decision-makers recognize that negotiating serious issues - especially proposals that would censor our use of the Internet - must be considered and debated democratically instead of in secret meetings with industry lobbyists?”

---snip
The TPP is one of the most far-reaching international free trade agreements in history. We know from leaked TPP draft texts that participating nations would be bound to much stricter and more extreme copyright laws than now exist under current national laws. These new rules would criminalize much online activity, invade citizens’ privacy, and significantly impact our ability to share and collaborate online.

Negotiators from 12 of the TPP negotiating nationsâ€"Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Peru, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Vietnam, and the United Statesâ€" are meeting in Asia this week to discuss these changes without input from the public, creators, or most businesses. The negotiating documents are classifiedâ€"unless you are one of just 600 industry lobbyists permitted to participate.
