I really enjoy the chat during the broadcast....however, have noticed that u don't reply to some "tech questions" that are asked there...does no one read the chat during the cast?  or is it just too quickly passing to notice....?  some questions are answered quickly, but others are simply lost in the chat.

Art once broke the Guinness Book of World Records for Endurance Broadcasting:  57 hours.  While see-sawing.

I just heard the latest spec sheet, and MV, I disagree with you on the tax system.  You are quoting myths that have been spread.  America's richest 1% are worth more than half our total income, so if they WERE taxed more, they WOULD put a large dent in our needs tax wise.  And a sales tax eliminating income and other taxes would be onerous on the lower middle class and below.  The real problem is that we are allowing companies like Apple to put all their profits off shore.

sounds like you're talking existing wealth.  i'm talking income.  <sarcasm>i'm sure a wealth tax would cause the quality of your life to improve immensely once implemented, btw.</sarcasm>

I find the concept of ANY income taxes on individuals OR incorporated entities to be abhorrent and unworthy of a free nation. Consumption and graduated luxury purchase taxes- all for it. But taxing GDP is an overmilked heifer since congress virtually eliminated import tariffs. Dickballs.

Just one totally stupid hippie's opinion.

agreed.  entirely.

I just don't think that people like Alice Walton are even paying taxes.  The rich get more benefit from the government and access more of it.  Back in the 50's businesses and rich paid a much larger portion of the tax base and yet, our economy boomed.  In cities were minimum wage went up things have recently boomed too from what I understand.  Sure, we shouldn't punish the wealthy for being wealthy, that's true as well.  It's like locks and keys, they are for honest people, taxes don't affect dishonest and powerful companies and individuals.

I get exposed to plenty of stats and factoids about this topic, but admittedly I'm kinda dumb when it comes to remembering exact facts and sites they are published in.  My lousy memory made it hard for me to get through college, I excelled in everthing that didn't involve memorization, but I had to pull all nighters before tests.  I'd reread a chapter at least 10 times to bury stuff in my brain.

Taxation is a pretty complex issue that can't be addressed by any simple 2 minute anecdote, suffice it to say.  But both flat tax and national sales tax would be very onerous for those living hand to mouth.  I make minimum wages and I do pay taxes, but 20% of 150 weekly bucks is kinda tough if you know what I mean.  People love simple answers to complex issues, but rarely do simple ideas address complex problems well.

This grazes the topic every so slightly with pro/con argumenation.

Yes and or but you will never tax the wealthy scamsters on the uptake, only on the outflow. Think about it, Elmer J. Bucksworthy spends money, does not get taxed because of loopholes. Rufus L. Streetrash spends money, even if its stolen/grifted, and also pays no taxes. The asinine game of a "fair graduated income tax" is for people that like spending money on carnival games of chance. I'm not saying don't play carnival games, I'm just saying don't make me do so. You can still donate to our lovely "federal" debt system, military, and assorted gvmt necessaries every time you go out and fuel the economy by spending the money you actually worked to possess. This is all IMO of course saying.

I'm with you.  Tax consumption, not production.  Tax imports coming in, not our own manufacturing output

Exactly how do you think this will come out good for you in the middle class?  Who consumes the most in ratio to income?  The middle class.  The rich don't consumer much more at all, a few luxury items they buy overseas, maybe a boat from Greece, a Car from Italy, Furniture from, I don't know, Great Britain?  And all of it is still a mere pitance to what they make a year.  The middle class will end up with twice or worse the tax burden, and commerce will slow to a snail's pace because people are being fined to shop.  Nonsense, you aren't thinking this through, it's become a party planck and as a result, people side with it without looking at the fine print where it show that it will hurt them.  You know what I say to myself when people vote in things because of a party planck that will actually HURT them?  "Suckers!"

Maybe those of a more leftist persuasion should actually be for a national sales tax, if it worked the way you mentioned. Less consumption, at least in the short term would mean more recycling, buying quality goods (instead of crap from China) made locally, making do, etc would be encouraged besides which the economic benefit of scrapping the IRS, in its current form, and freeing all the misused, talented labor (opportunity costs) of accountants, lawyers, and lobbyists whose current "work" does very little to help the economy but exist to write, find, defend, prosecute and lobby for things related to the tax code. And we could also have some "key items" (certain foodstuffs, or like we do here also, some tax-free weekends on certain clothing and work-related items) for poor people and the middle class. A sales tax would also take money back from the black economy since drug dealers, criminals, hookers, illegals, etc still buy stuff. We would still reserve the right for other taxes (excise, tariffs, etc) if deemed necessary but no more tax on OUR people's income.

Haha, I hate that catch-phrase, popularized by a certain idiot. It deludes the phrase "great", calling into a talk-show is not heroic service or makes someone "great."

Unfortunately, there are too many interests, in both major parties, to make something so logical and simple (and fair) as a national sales tax (with provisions for key food-stuffs or other option for poor people and still allowing excise and tariffs) a pipe-dream.

As a certain firebrand conspiracy theorist in my hometown frequently says "it is not about Left or Right; but about right or wrong." (Not that I abide by his theories or rants but he is correct there.)
