I'm ... I'm ... blushing. And just a little bit turgid.

Thank you for the kind words.

Just listened to b_dubb and MV on The Spec Sheet.

Good work, men!

As a reward for your loyal service to the movement, you win a communist poster turned bassakward into wicked cool libertarian electronic frontier propaganda that might, just ~might~ help save the world:

Love the "Kill the Cloud".  You're a cool cat Cam.

Thanks, Red.

I can almost hear Ronnie James Dio singing that line on a theoretical Heaven & Hell album that will never be recorded.

If you click the file to view the large version of the Spec Sheet recruitment poster, you will notice something in the lower left area.

A symbolic message to the likes of you from the likes of me. (wink)

thank you, sir.  the fact that someone of your philosophical and intellectual extraction listens to this show is reassuring.

please send beige pajama suit.

I have something so much more earthshaking to send than hypnotic sleep-ware.  I'm waiting for friendlier temperatures, for fear of some blue snail accidentally leaving the package in Ra's direct gaze, damaging the time capsule(s) within.

Sometime in October to be safe.

This weekend I was planning to publish the first Linux benchmarks for Intel's incredibly powerful Core i7 5960X Haswell-E processor with X99 motherboard and DDR4 system memory. Unfortunately, all I can tell you now is that it's smoking, quite literally!

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=msi_x99_fail&num=1

[attachimg=1]

they put the magic smoke in the motherboard for a reason. if you let the magic smoke out the mobo workee no longer.

Wow. Hopefully the next mobo they send works just fine. Otherwise, MSI might be forced to market this combo as the "barbecue dream" rig.

Come to think of it, there's gotta be a market for rigs that can also cook food. They can sell it with the tagline "Frag bitchez. Make hot pockets."  8)

they are not the only only ones : http://www.legitreviews.com/intel-x99-motherboard-goes-up-in-smoke-for-reasons-unknown_150008

if you must upload to the cloud for some reason i cant fathom, make a password like so:
open notepad (or whatever editor you like) add some text. save the file. then use md5sum on the file. and you will have a impossible to guess password.
ex:
open notepad
type "this is my password file" (use some text that is innocuous like "my contacts are" then make up some crap
save it as mypassword.txt (obviously use some random filename you can remember)
md5sum mypassword.txt
you will end up with something like : c1b8cfee840978dbedf6ec8eb44d34bb  this is your password. use a password manager that only saves on your computer somewhere. or rerun md5sum mypassword.txt to get it again.
if you change this file, your password will be lost.

another example:
make a file called test answers.txt
use the answers to the security questions to retrieve the password from your cloud host site.
example : your favorite pet: nergel
your mothers maiden name: rigel5
etc.
make your md5sum and use that as your password.

it would be very helpful if the cloud providers implemented something like : 3 failed login attempts, you are redirected to password retrieval. 2 failed attempts there and your ip is banned for 1 hour.

winmd5sum
mac/bsd  : open a terminal ,type md5 <filename>
linux : open a terminal type md5sum <filename>

wr250

i should note that the actual file doesn't matter. what matters is you remember which file it is and that it doesnt change (so you can retrieve the password). it could be a picture of your dog, if you like.

Went to Canada this weekend, so I had some time to catch up on the last couple Spec Sheets and the Gabcast.   You'd be a welcome addition to Washington, MV.   Move to Vancouver and you can live your state tax free lifestyle each and every day...    it's actually a great great place to live if you can ignore the granola liberalism.

Clark county is nice, and as an Oregonian the stores don't charge us sales tax, with ID. The future home of Fidget Conglomerated's distribution center will be a bit north of there... in Puyallup. Speaking of which... has a big fair... http://www.thefair.com

Bring some rain gear, and enough lighting to dodge "SAD." http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder

Heck no! Oregon has some of the strongest constitutional rights in this country, if you were issued a ticket by a state trooper or a police officer... they will sign it, then hand it to you... and say see you in court. Free speech is strongest in Oregon among the states, surpassing even federal law. Unlike many states where you will be compelled to witness against yourself, by signing a ticket... in Oregon you must not be as a matter of law. If you want to drive your car barefoot that's your business in Oregon, not the government's concern. Washington gives Oregonians the courtesy of not charging us tax near the border, particularly in Vancover, for purchases that will be used outside of the state... the deeper you go into WA. the more difficult it is to get the tax waiver. It is relatively routine in Vancouver.

Mr. Fidget

I imagine my call dropped, I don't think our conversation had degraded to "hang up on him," I could be wrong, I suppose. ;) I guess I'll hear what happened when this episode is posted.
On to new, old business... about the "unsanctioned emulation" Linkey Fidget Curtis has, it can't last... as "manufactured." All rubber bands degrade over time, and although a potentially novel addition to my Double Ring Rotator... I'm guessing they will last about a year before getting cruddy, or breaking. The goal may have been to add color, or tactile comfort... or both. I don't know since he won't converse with me.
I claim a Creative Commons licence, Attribution. Aka. "CC BY" This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licenses offered. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials. He is truly foolish to not embrace that, it would give him "authenticity." He could be honorable, but won't be... oh well.
Here is how I solved the tactile smoothness problem. I rebuild the chain into what is called "block chain," and it is a far superior solution. It is "night and day" compared to rubber bands... a dabbler's attempt.
[attachimg=1]
Say the word Curtis, and I'll make you a classy one, as above. Also Mr. Knockoff likely did not inform you that by attaching a key ring through the center of both rings your Linkey Fidget will still work on your keys, and be less likely to get lost, or misplaced. A correctly sized snap hook can also accomplish this... so that you can take it off for fidgeting at your convenience. He can make all the knockoffs he wants, he will always be decades behind me in experience in this medium.
Our mutual supplier displays my art on their table in the lobby, not his... and they have done so for well more than a decade. They consider us "apples and oranges," genuine and imitation... I am the former he is the latter.

I live much further north than Vancouver.  I have never showed an ID to buy anything in Oregon, and even if you did show your Washington ID, they'd still not charge you tax, I bet.   People regularly drive south to buy big ticket items tax exempt.  Some people have PO Boxes in Oregon if they live close, so they can have items shipped to Oregon too.    Works great if you really hate taxes.   Oh, and Vancouver isn't as bad as central Washington (Puget Sound) as far as liberals go, although Portland is relatively liberal.  I believe the house rep for Vancouver is a republican.

Sorry I missed the Spec Sheet, but that's par for the course.

I had to go pee really bad. This show needs a break. It's very bladder intensive and I was sipping a big gulp of cherry flavored soda.
