In his defense when talking about survival and being shut-in due to some UN lockdown instead of being forced to self-deport to a FEMA camp ovens the processed foods might be ok. Longer shelf life. "Cheap" calories. Still available on shelves. And so forth. Somewhere someone was talking about having a supply of lard, even CRISCO, for instant energy and important fats (can be added to Ramen noodles or pasta to make empty calories more beneficial.) Let us BGers keep our "Sardine Solution" to ourselves. I had no problems buying some more Sardines today in addition to some dried kidney beans, rice, SPAM, bleach, alcohol wipes, peanut butter, beer, TP, and booze.

Sort of yeah but I think that many things we are wont to see danger in things that are novel, that we fell no control of, or potentially worse. Tornadoes happen all the time. They suck and are scary but are an act of God, or nature, and while sometimes predictable- often not so- but over quickly. Devastating, especially to the victims and community, but then over and regionally limited damage. Many people are more afraid to fly due to crashes even though likely more danger driving to the airport or getting coughed on by someone. We appear to accept known risks. How many folks were killed by drunk driver, cancer, an illegal, heart disease, suicide, an OD, a fall in the shower or stairs, or car accident during this Corona-Chan virus?

Whereas a pandemic of some virus that is potentially man-made weapon (or not,) novel, has long latent phase, and being a virus will likely mutate is more scary because it could 'be the big one,' doom-n-gloom, end-of-days, etc always fascinates, sells, or motivates.

That is exactly how it started here. One or two reported cases, and then suddenly it was chaos. The dead left rotting in the street, and public health officials unable to respond. Suddenly, it is every man for himself. I hope you are armed and prepared.

If you look to China- you will quickly see what you can expect. Out of a population of one and a half billion, a full three thousand of it's old and infirm have already perished from this disease. It is horrible, and you will find the streets in your city running with blood.

My recommendation is to immediately cut all social ties. Call into work and let them know that you will not be in until the social unrest and deaths cease. Arm yourself, and barricade yourself in your house. And whatever you do- never. I repeat never- take off your respirator. If possible, I recommend SABA breathing gear.

In your case, I would also recommend asking Ms. Wan to join you or stay at a hotel until this passes. There is no point in isolating yourself if she insists on social contact. A cheap motel is only a few dollars a night. Money well spent for you peace of mind.
