Will there be a way to listen to his new shows after the fact? I probably won't be able to be up late to listen live.
yes, Art's new shows are scheduled to be repeated twice after the live broadcast and is reported to be available in their on-demand archives for 30+days after that for playback at any time for subscribers with the internet package only.
Also Friday nights will feature a replay of the best show of the week - that reminds me of what Art did in the mid 90s for Saturday nights he would play a best of show from the past M-F week.

Someone a while back said we should be ready to accept a changed Art Bell, one who is different than the one we remember so long ago when he was the sole 'Master of the Night'.  That may be so, but we have to realize that we've changed also.  It may be due to age, job changes, relationships, different cities, whatever.

I've given this some thought and I believe that Art's return, and all that means to us individually, will be a way for me (us) to recapture some of the 'awe' for life and natural innocence we once had.  We won't be going back to the good old day's of Art's broadcasts for this, but reclaiming it now, in the midst of the lives we currently live.

Looking at Art's site today I was struck by its simplicity, and how it was being built by people from BellGab and elsewhere, piece by respectful piece.  It is a wonderful thing to behold.  The responsiveness, the loving creativity, the community.

JC, Art's Parts, and Mel's Hole were great entertainment in the past.  We may hear from them or about them again, but more importantly, a new portal to the universe is waiting for us with new creatures and stories of the Night.  Matters of the mind, spirit, and the dark will soon be touching our hearts and imaginations once again.

Random, but anyone know what the symbolism/meaning of Art's chain/necklace he has in so many photos? I've seen it in pics, he also wore it in a 1999 CNN interview I just saw the other day on YouTube. Pic below (just ignore that guy on the left in the pic).

I am looking forward to Art's return for a couple reasons. I like spooky subjects. I like intelligent conversation and intelligent questions. I like that Art can be a derp, like the rest of us. I still smirk listening to his frustration with windows 95 and his bold statement he would be victorious. Mostly though I like that Dave will now be of no consequence... kind of like he always has been.

I also loved the days when he was in love with his fax machine.

Just keep it to 1-2 pages.

I often wondered what kind of weirdo stuff he received on that fax that was never talked about.  There are a lot of late night perverts out there like Bill from CT.

Or the lunatic manifestos the size of a phone book, hence the 1-2 pages rule.

Just to make a point worth making again, damn, I am looking forward to hearing phrases such as, "From the high desert..." and "From East of the Rockies, Robert, you're on..."  Do you all anticipate that we really will hear the question, "Wanna take a ride?"  I know the Bell website asks that question, but I want to hear it, too!

I am jazzed.

Phone system is different... one line in... so that precludes "east of the Rockies". I may be wrong.

I dunno if anyone was listening last night, but I was listening in bed and it sounded like they squeezed in Art Bell's name before either snickering, or was shut off. I've been trying to find an archive. It was the last call his first guest received.  Subsequently before that a caller mentioned he didn't eat meat, but at a sandwich everyday. When George asked him what was in his sandwich the caller said "Ham and cheese". I about died laughing. No doubt it was a troll caller.

that was bellgab user bateman.  it was discussed in the GNS thread along with an audio clip.  check it out.  it's a real gut laugh.

I agree with your post.  To me Art is still a great broadcasting talent and is going to still have that ability to find the interesting offbeat, the cutting edge science, the spooky and the unexplained.  You are right, some years later now it will be different and so will individuals and the audience as a whole.  But the essence will be there.  And the Noory years will be forgotten.

I'm looking forward to a mix of old and new

ST Joshi would be fantastic on there, though may not fit the format. Still, would love to hear him do an interview with Art.

I think S.T. Joshi would fit the format of the show, since he is the preeminent authority on the horror writer, H.P. Lovecraft, who wrote of very "dark matters."  I would see the interview being a discussion of Lovecraft, his life (which was quite unusual, even gothic:  both his parents died in insane asylums, for just one example), and to a lesser degree his stories and how his writing went on to influence writers such as Stephen King, Clive Barker and even George R.R. Martin (who I just heard the other day that he considers Lovecraft to be an influence on his writing).  If Dean Koontz can come on the show, a living horror writer, I do think one show of Dark Matters could be devoted to discussing a dead horror writer who was a huge influence on current ones, and who has had computer games and movies come out based upon his work.

And speaking of interesting guests to suggest for the new show, even though I know this is the wrong thread, I think George R. R. Martin would be a *great* guest:  esp. after the huge success of 'Game of Thrones' on HBO.

Also, I happen to know that Art loves 'Breaking Bad' and 'The Walking Dead.'  I'd love to see him interview ANY of the actors from those 2 tv shows on 'Dark Matters,' or any of the major writers/producers of those shows.  How cool would it be to have Vince Gilligan on the show, who also wrote episodes of 'The X-Files'?

As much as I love HP, I just don't even think he's on Art's radar. He is huge in some circles, and almost unknown in most. The general populace of readers don't really know much about him. However, it's true he influenced the majority of modern horror writers. Hell, he even mentored Robert Bloch, and Robert E Howard amongst many others. Rod Serling was influenced by him as well, I'd argue. Night Gallery adapted two of his stories.

Regardless of his influence on King et al. If he is, it would be really fascinating to have Joshi on there. Weird fiction as a whole would be a great topic on Dark Matters.

I think Art would dig Lovecraft's stories if he gave them a chance, and I think he would be fascinated by H.P.'s life.  As you undoubtedly know, HPL has an avid following of readers, many whom are also gamers (as Lovecraftian themes are in many computer games these days).  I'm in a Lovecraft group on FB, and there's close to 8,000 members and the people who are members are the kind of people that Art would like:  intelligent, quirky and interested in the paranormal.  S.T. could, of course, also discourse on the topic of underground/alternative weird fiction world, of which there is quite a movement of that in this country (in a small  but continually growing way):  they write, publish books and magazines, they put on and attend conferences, ... heck, some of them even make documentaries (Jason V Brock).  I think it's a movement that Art would be intrigued by if he knew about it, and it would make Dark Matter more cutting edge if it was a topic of one of his shows.  It would add breadth to the show, and not be the same old topics that he's always discussed (but yet, philosophically, fit within the realm of Art's usual old topics).
