I think quitting the forum because it's currently full of assholes simply reinforces the asshole majority.

Why would they have to drive home? They could live in the area and frequent the BLM land. Anyway, I'm just going by what Art said. He said it could be a .22 or a firecracker.

It's in the data.
Did the police find evidence of fireworks? Firecrackers?

Did Art ever consider buying some earplugs so he wouldn't hear the fireworks when he went outside?

So you think someone went out to the desert, lit off a firecracker and then drove home?

I'm telling you guys, they need to give her a co-host and a call screener.  In the same studio or not, whatever it takes.  They need to "professional up" a bit.  Spend some time and money and effort to make this work.  Invest in it.

The bottom line, Art didn't get to where he got without a heck of a lot of investment and hard work on his part.  He did the research before having his guests on, he spent time offline doing more research and he developed his craft over years.  His show is a testament to his hard work and effort just as much as his natural skill.

The show can work, but in a competitive market, ya gotta work at it!   8)
Art could be the call screener. He wouldn't have to go to his studio to do that. He could take calls and screen dweebs from his ham shack.

So this place has always been a cornucopia of knowledge both valuable and worthless. I want to expand into different areas to create more revenue streams and pursue different interests.

One thing I'm about to expand to is running a cigar business and hopefully opening an online retail cigar store. I'm already in the process of working with my local government to get the proper licensing and I have a reputable distributor lined up who can drop ship for me.

My main question is where does one start with software? I've played around on some of the premade shopping cart sites and they're nice but not very flexible. One of the main things I want is to be able to integrate Bitcoin and Altcoins into the payment system but that seems very complex. This is the main thing I'm having problem with is figuring out the software end. I don't want to half ass the store front, I want this to be a long term business.

What advice or experiences can you folks give me? Where does one start? What would you recommend?

Wordpress. There are lots of plugins that self install. You will need someone to help dial in the design, the setup the shopping cart, etc.  Wordpress is free to download and install on the server of your choice.

Recommend a Linux hosting environment and MySQL database. You can get that from GoDaddy for about $5/month at the economy level or $8/month for deluxe hosting. People dis GoDaddy for a variety of reasons. I've always been satisfied with their service and support at that price.

I had posted elsewhere that he may not have wanted to absorb the cost.  Suppose that he was not as worried for himself as for his wife and daughter.  Now you are looking at three guards during the day (one each) and one at night.  If he broadcast from a detached studio- maybe two at night.  Not really all that cheap to pay 4-5 armed guards full time in Pahrump when the payoff is to be able to stay on air and provide free entertainment to his "loyal" fans.

Trump would not notice the cost, actors make a few million a year, and Bell probably was going to clear a couple of thousand from MITD.  Not really something where the pay off is worth it.  (Oh, and his daughter growing up in a compound with armed guards may not have appealed to him either.)

He did not even want the music licencing costs to eat into his daughters inheritance- I cannot imagine that he thought that a quarter to half million a year was going to be worth it to broadcast a show three hours each night.

I've figured out what was wrong with my sound.  I've been doing the show from 1999 using 56k dial up.  I'm going to set my time masheen to 2002 so I can get access to proper DSL or cable broadband.

1.5 mbps baby!

First, I am leaving BellGab. You guys have convinced me to leave. Congratulations!

My sins:

1. I criticized Art Bell and Heather.
2. I criticized guests like LA Marzulli.
3. I criticized the old geezer who wants everyone to leave the forum unless they adore Art and Heather (the one who just spewed all the sewage of hate at me)

Life is too short. Thanks for letting me know the quality of thought here before I got into it.
Have you seen your avatar? Quality of thought. Thanks for promising to leave. Hoping he doesn't pull a Falkie and go back on his word.

How lame / disappointing was Captain Phasma?  The chrome trooper uniform was awesome, but:
- the character didn't really do anything
- also shouldn't have been a woman

Like Boba Fett, a whole mythos could have risen for this character based on the costume alone - a missed opportunity, in my opinion.
Anyone could have played this role. I had hoped that Gwendolyn Christie would play the role of the Sith/Dark Jedi. Instead she was wasted as a Chrome Trooper who got all of two minutes of screen time. I have to think she'll return in the next movie. I'm also thinking Max Von Sydow will somehow turn out to be Snoke because why cast someone like that in a minor role that dies in the first five minutes of the film.

I'm holding out hope that Snoke turns out to be Jar Jar's Dark Side identity. At least that will be good for a laugh.
