What happened at Bondi Beach yesterday?  I must know!

I guess the beach was crowded. They shut down more beaches there today too because people were flocking to them.
States are shutting their borders too, which is a really weird thing to see - probably unprecedented since Australia unified. AFL just got cancelled until the end of May.

A few days ago the ABC ran an opinion piece that was harping on about how India's faring againt the coronavirus, and how the developed world should be following their example. Now you're starting to see things on the BBC etc about how India is shutting down the Mumbai rail network and cases are rising rapidly/underreported.

Coronavirus has reached India, but I feel safer here than I might back home in Australia

I don’t get it. They can read this shit but not English?!
Yeah, it's a pidgin language:
Quotepidgin language, is a grammatically simplified means of communication that develops between two or more groups that do not have a language in common: typically, its vocabulary and grammar are limited and often drawn from several languages
I don't get why the BBC encourages this one though. The content of the British Broadcasting Corporation should be in the Queen's English!  ::)

Maybe this won't surprise Americans, but for foreigners travelling to the USA travel insurance is a lot more expensive for there as opposed to say Europe:

Had the RAAF's aerobatics team flying about last week in their brand new PC21s. Maybe I was just imagining things, but they seemed much louder than their old PC9s.

So I'm still sick and my symptoms worsened a bit.

Rang the GP this morning to book an appointment and they asked a long list of questions about my symptoms, movements, and if I'd interacted with any confirmed cases of coronavirus. They then told me that based on my responses I'd have to ring my state health department and get their approval before making a doctor's appointment (or presumably be directed elsewhere to be tested). So I ring the number given, get put on hold and disconnected, ring again and got through to someone after 5min who then asked a lot of questions about my symptoms, movements, and if I'd interacted with any confirmed cases of coronavirus. Finally get told I'm low risk and cleared to see a GP and wished "good luck".
Rang the GP back, they book the appointment, and then tell me to use the back door to stay separate from everyone else. Fast forward to 10min before the appointment, they ring me and tell me to park in the staff carpark, and to remain in my car until someone comes for me.
So the doctor themselves came out to get me, dressed in full on quarantine garb, put me in a room kept separate and then did all the checks.

Turns out I probably just have a cold and don't meet the criteria for testing anyway. The doctor looked a bit embarassed by it all.  ::)

A lot of mixed messages about whether you should be tested if you're sick with symptoms matching coronavirus. Seems at the moment though they're only testing you here if your symptoms match and you've been in contact with someone confirmed to have it or travelled to South Korea, Italy, or China in the past 14 days. Otherwise you're told to fuck off and quarantine yourself for 14 days without knowing whether you actually have it or not.

Meanwhile there are calls to quarantine Sydney:

A GP in Melboune got sick in the US, flew back to Australia, and then went to work while sick. Turns out he has coronavirus and had seen ~70 patients.
After being called out for being extremely dumb by the state health minister (who didn't name him), he's decided to attack them himself.

Well I got sick, probably from going to the doctor on Thursday. I don't think it's coronavirus, but I guess we'll see over the next few days.

Went to the doctor yesterday following an injury, and the entrance was plastered with signs telling anyone suspecting Coronavirus or with matching symptoms to not enter and instead ring a number with where they can get medical attention/screened. All signs were duplicated in Chinese.
Waiting room was completely empty too, which is unheard of.

So now people are accepting having their temperature monitored globally, and being quarantined if some detector determines that they have a temperature.  (They couldn't be wrong, or used to target specific individuals could they?)  I never thought I'd see the day.  This is even more shocking to me than the "keep me safe" mindset that we saw change our freedom after 9/11.
I might've mentioned it earlier in this thread, but Singapore Airport has had signs up and equipment for temperature checks since at least SARs. I think they did temperature checks for Swine Flu, and probably for other virus panics too. Have always wondered if someone just hot and sweaty would get pulled up for it.

Good luck. Oddly no panic here, yet.

We'll see. I mentioned it a long time ago in this very thread that I had some particularly nasty flu from the end of the Dec until the end of Jan, and it's still got some lingering after effects like a persistent cough and occasional breathing problems - so the smart money for the deathpool is on me if I get it.

Bought stuff a few weeks ago, less out of concern for the virus and more over people clearing out shops. Went to the supermarket two nights ago and shelves for bread, meat, and toilet paper had been completely emptied.
Only thing I probably don't have is bottled water, but I've got two largeish water tanks on my property and I figure that if things ever got bad enough to affect the water supply I can use that water with a bit of treatment.
