I could be wrong but here the 'landlines' are still digital and through your router and they replaced much of the lines with fiber-optitic (though not sure but it SEEMs that competitive carriers are laying own lines? google, spectrum, and at&t ALL  seem to be digging up streets etc.)

Here, we still can have copper if we're with the traditional company, not a cable provider.  They want everybody to switch and, someday, fiber will go all the way to the neighborhood junction boxes.  Analog phones supposedly still get power and REN tolerances will be limited.  I know my VOIP modem interface thingy does supply power but they warn it's battery life is shortened considerably, especially by backlit keypads, etc...

My assessment of what he was saying was that he tried to move the show so George wouldn't think they were in conflict anymore, but that George still thought they were in conflict even WITH a new time slot, so Keith opted to just keep it as-is. Like, he was trying to make nice with George, George still wasn't having it, so Keith said, OK then, why bother changing?

That's just what I got from it. I'm supposed to give Keith a call so I'll try and check in on that this weekend.

Thanks so much...it surprises me that George would take such a hard stance, but I don't know him that well. I would have thought he'd appreciate the lead-in.

I wonder what conflict there is, unless the new host is one of his fill-ins. That would actually make a lot of sense...Keith offering to move the time slot because it's a C2C host, but Noory saying it's still a conflict...hmmm.

I don't know.  Those MeTV commercials must be pretty lucrative, plus he no doubt gets backstage Svengoolie passes.  Why mess with a good thing?
True but knowing Larry King's proclivities maybe he is thinking he could pull in more chicks and less of the old variety with a new show on this "internet thing?"
ps: this is one of my favorite renditions of the song to which I alluded in one of your earlier posts.

None of us should beat ourselves up. Good manipulation is just that. And sorry I have listened to that shit show twice she was faking it. I refuse to be a chump again.
Aww, thanks PBS!  By the way, your voice is better than Heather's and I wouldn't be surprised to find out Art was talking about you. Hope you call into the Gabcast more often...that is when we next have one. :)

Praise MV!

If the new guy is a former C2C guest host, is Noory enough of a jerk that he might announce the name sometime between now and Monday?

I'm really getting a Whitley vibe.  Someone talk me out of this.

Recently became available?

Lee Hamilton?
The guy Heather bumped?
The dude that made the suicide joke and got fired before he started at some FM station?
Did Dreamland end because Art still owned it?  I thought he gave it away...

Yeah, it sucks everything going digital. Great for bandwidth, not great for reliability or for voice quality (though this is improving) but still they have these caveats like "might not work in power outage" "911 might not work" etc in the 'fine-print' legalese and they still, sorta, 'sell,' the landline for emergencies- but it really isn't anymore. We had crazy bills for water recently- it wasn't new tech. The sub-contractor wasn't even reading meters in some areas. I also worry, in a conspiracy-way, if all the digital meters, routers, etc aren't spying on folks or can be manipulated cleverly for fraud, over-billing, selling your habits to marketers and politicians, or shut-down per gov't order etc.

See, here's where I don't understand this mentality. MITD is NOT in competition with George. Radio has changed. Nobody HAS to choose one or the other. We have recordings, we have podcasts, both shows are pushing for memberships so that people can consume the show whenever they choose. And the key to putting on a good radio show is NOT thinking about the competition, and talking to the audience like YOU are the only one capable of giving them this content. Start worrying about the next guy, and you're only trying to be better than him, not being the best version of yourself.

I honestly think that's part of Heather's problem...she could never allow herself to step out of Art's shadow, so now it defines her.

This is so amazing. I owe you a favor for this. What’s your favorite bottle of scotch?

Actually how much scotch did you consume while making this?

That's why I get the vibe from Noory's reaction that it's a Coast personality, so the time-slot move was a peace offering but Noory felt it was more of a brand-raid, no matter what the time slot.

+1 Chump

I'm embarrassed to say I was too. Lordy, I even took up for Heather thinking she was being picked on. Jesus Fucking Christ, it annoys me when I allow myself to be hoodwinked.

But now I have seen the light, and all praise goes to MV!

Hey morgana nice to connect with another recovering chump!   :D

This times a billion. Live shows are only an event if you make it an event. Otherwise you have to build an audience using everything available to you. .

Are you in San Diego?

Water bills were a big thing down here as an employee didn't read a bunch of them.  I came home to find a meter equipped with a cellular transmitter (powered by solar) had been put in.  Let's face it, most municipalities make their money away from actual water usage...  it's delivery fees and other bogus charges.

I hope it is not Schrader.  I like Dave but his shows have always been hit and miss with me.  I know where he's coming from and what he brings to the show.  I want someone new.

I hope so. Because it's hard to imagine this being a bigger clusterfuck than it currently is.

I thought the same. "Congratulations to Dave Schrader..."

Noory happens to be on tonight AND Sunday.

Well, it's a guy, so it's not Willis or Garr.  I doubt it's Schrader or Church.  Syrett?
