20150719 - Art Bell Open Lines Test Show - Live Chat Thread

Technology is amazing, we got Art crystal clear for over an hour, and he was essentially broadcasting from a Sprint 4g WiMAX connection.

The forecast for Monday for Pahrump and the entire Vegas area is more thunderstorms.

I tried all night on Skype and the landline to get in. Landine would ring 40-50 times after awhile would hang up or be busy the next time I tried it.
Skype would ring and periodically disconnect the minute it started ringing.
Art needs electronic Raid or something to get the bugs out or some system impervious to the effects of thunderstorms.

My experience is.. I called 216 times continuously. 53 out or 54 times, I got a busy signal. 4 times out of 216, the phone actually rang! My daughter and I got excited every time it actually rang..which was few and far between. But those 4 times that it did actually ring, I had my hand on the volume knob to turn down my stream if he answered....before he had to tell me to:)

I think he's better off with a "wired" internet connection rather than a wireless. If anything, a show of this caliber should have a backup internet line, in case of circumstances like tonight.

Cable, DSL, or Fibre Optic internet connections are less prone to weather anomalies than cellular networks.

Of course, but there's no cable or fibre in pahrump. Seems like there is ATT DSL though?

I believe that that was last week's show on tape. It appeared that Arts ending the show early left them having to put an old show up.

Art posted on his Facebook page a little while ago "Ok, you do not wish me to have a co-host. No problem, it was only a test show". . Redacted is a nice person, but she's not right for Art's show. As for the internet problems, he's going to have to belly up with done more cash to get a better connection in there and soon. No way around that.

yeah, a hard wired connection is the only way to go on this.

Keep the faith Art/Keith, "Work the problem."  Y'all will be OK.

landline isdn/dsl works fine

If anyone recorded the show PM please. A called in and really want a copy. I am a time traveler so we are not cheating the system or anything.

Super glad to have Art back. I can't believe he used The Chase as the opening theme! I jumped out of my chair as soon as I heard it.

Could be that neither is an affordable option given his location. He will probably have to bite the bullet and get something put in. Given the amount of caller traffic coming in, he's probably going to want his listener communication on a separate connection if he is going to be dealing with limited bandwidth issues. His stream will buffer, but a break in the connection is going to clear all of his 'phone lines' if and when it happens, and he isn't going to want that. The test show was a great idea, that much was proven tonight. Though the amount of money it takes to move mountains like this in one day is astronomical.

In any case, mint was a great show. The technical issues are easily fixed, though streaming on the Internet is never going to be a perfect thing., and there are going to be issues along the way. Given the size of his listener base, even small technical issues are going to appear to be much larger and more of a problem than they really are.

I would be extremely interested to know the pricing difference between his microwave setup and a T1 line, but I fully expect to be lied to about this.

"one NDA expires and two take its place"

I liked Redacted on the show, I thought she did a great job. If she is not a permanent fixture then I hope she calls often and Art keeps her around for a while each time she gets on. I like the idea of a public forum and a roundtable discussion. Could make for more interesting talk.

All the best with the tech problems Art, I'm sure they will get cleared up. If a show gets cancelled here or there because of a rain day once in a while, no sweat. This is breaking new and interesting ground, and in order to do that you need to solve problems no one has really run into before.

MV, where did that come from?  I thought he registered here under "Dave Noory", I offered the originally and was corrected being told he was introduced at an event as Dave.  Please set me straight.

A couple years ago, a BellGab user was communicating with a station program director via email. The program director referred to Noory as Dave Norrie. The user posted the email on the forum, and ever since, it's become a part of BellGab lore.

Indeed, this truly is classic!

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.  There is always the high quality show called Coast for you to tune into.

Sadly, I don't really believe that you are going to disappear.  Your type likes the responses far too much, Falkie.

I was listening to Art long before you knew your arse from a hole in the ground. You don't know yourself, much less, me. Art knows forums are breeding grounds for fights and pure hatred (he's said it many times), so I'm just surprised that he bought into this one to such a degree.

There are other sites with members who've supported him FAR longer than this one. He doesn't need a fan club to survive. He's a grown man who, by his own admission, didn't read a contract thoroughly enough to see the freakin' non-compete clause and/or not understand the ramifications, and didn't understand that people had to PAY to listen to him on Sirius and when he did, got mad about it???  And so we ALL had to wait TWO YEARS until we could hear him live again?  How long has he been in broadcasting? A few years longer than me but good God how in the hell could he have made such mistakes with his background? I was mad at him for robbing me and all his listeners of years of great shows at a time when the world really needs what wisdom he and his guests could offer.

I detest Noory, thank you very much. I enjoyed this forum and only posted when I felt I had something to say; tonight was no exception.  I'm NO troll or "Falkie."  Sheez, you IDIOT.  It's the usual Forum mentality of cliques and "if you don't agree with the management, there's the door...."  So do you scare me off? Nope. YOU are the one who seems to thrive on dissing my posts. Just ignore them. This is the last one of yours I'll respond to.

So go back to scratching your arse and popping cans of cheap beer, Wreaking Of Trashy Rot. ASSume you know it all. You wear it so well.
