A Bose-Einstein condensate is a dense cluster of atoms cooled so close to absolute zero that all of the atoms are in a single quantum state and can therefore be described by the same wavefunction.

Sounds like you could make a bitchin slurpee outta that.  Har har, seriously though - I did actually see some experiment where they made one and as I remember it behaves like a different state of matter and in fact I think it just sort of slipped through the glass that contained it, very weird stuff.

How do you make it vibrate so it is then in a state of transition?  What is it transitioning into?  And are you intrigued?

Making a BEC traditionally involves the two-step cooling of a cloud of atoms contained in a magnetic trap. The first step is laser cooling. It involves choosing an electronic transition of the atom to be cooled and irradiating the atom cloud with laser light of an energy slightly below this transition. For the most energetic atoms trying to climb out of the trap, the laser light is blue-shifted to the transition frequency. These atoms can therefore absorb a photon, which pushes them back. It also promotes the atoms into the excited state.

I'm absolutely intrigued!  I've been reading up on this stuff for a while.  The info I posted comes from the following link.  ;)

I still cannot wrap my head totally around these topics.  It is intoxicating though....and fun!  8)

he said last night that the gear was donated by the guy who helped set up art
Thanks, missed that bit I guess.

Winding down on two weeks of Hoagie. I can't believe I actually look forward to the show as much as I do....

I wonder if tomorrow we'll get Friday Open Lines (we all know who's waiting to call in).

Mind...blown.  :o

It's how I remember it.  Maybe GFP can confirm if that makes sense or if more likely I was lucid dreaming when I saw that.

No...what you stated was familiar to me.  I just recalled it but can't remember the when or why.  :-\

I believe in Hoagey! His show is improving as he is. People just need to give him a chance.

Haha thanks for the vote of confidence but that stuff is a little above my pay grade.

I'm giving him a chance.  As you can see, others are too.  Heck...I subscribed!  ;)  I get a kick out of the random stuff in the background and the different cadence used throughout.

Is a certain Venture Brothers henchman calling in now? Or Emo Phillips?

ShayP

I would like....and I feel I can speak for others....more random noises in the background.  Telephones, BLAARP'S!, creaking sounds, etc.  :D

zeebo

I think this is what I was remembering.  When it's cooled to liquid helium it stays in the beaker, but when it cools farther it becomes a superfluid and leaks out the bottom.

norland2424

the current caller inst one of you just making that tone of voice? lol

LMAO!!!  I'm just hearing this now!  WTF?  I'm on the east coast, maybe that's why.

When the guest mentioned speaking to an 'alien scientist' I thought Hoagie was going to stroke out.  Then the guest clarified.  ;D

Wow has this been good tonight.

Sean92008

Enjoying this although I had to leave the show to shave, shower and brush.

Cut that off-topic guy off.  Firm-handed RCH!

I'll have to watch this 100 times now.  Wow.... :)

PChirp

Really like RCH but honestly, he's a glutton for punishment when he starts taking open line callers.  $5 well spent!   ;D

Richard is using free energy to time travel to Circuit City to avoid callers calling him out. Hoagie needs open lines and he/we need to focus on guest instead of touching on any of Hoaxland's bs. I prefer raspy and less indignant Hoagie to loud and proudly ignorant Hoaxland. He has been a pretty good host. Dave pumped full of cocaine, meth, oxy, PCP, and bengal tiger semen couldn't hope to entertain as well as Rich has. Coast is a joke, glorified infomercial run by the biggest fraud to ever live.

ShayP

Hoagie thinks 3-D printers are a "niche phenomenon?"  Hmmmm.....interesting.

He also thinks an Accutron watch is a "scientific instrument", so what else needs to be said?

Hoagland previews tomorrow's show has more Pluto guests.
