Hijack This Topic

Started by Camazotz Automat, November 29, 2014, 05:08:06 PM

Replace the current topic with something better.

If you can.

At the moment, the topic is the explanation for the thread, which should be a snap to derail.

In fact, I will hijack it myself to old cars.

I took this photo while taking a drive in the wastelands:

I once drove a Packard.  It was awesome.

The car seemed like a living thing - the organic feeling helped along by a paint job that looked like tomato skin.

I'd love a ride like that.  Wonder what was under the hood?  Straight six?

(Redacted) effectively hijacked the thread to penises.

But seriously, I wonder if it is a straight eight cylinder?

I also saw a car like this in a recent film as well, but can't remember the DVD.

The car just looks amazing. Makes you want to pick up a group of friends and take a road trip.

If you don't turn this topic around and fly it to Havana right now, we're going to impale the passengers on our giant pencils, starting with the capitalist oppressors in first class.  Cuba libre!

I wouldn't feel right if I did not post this modified Crumb cartoon:

Speaking of Cuba...it's as if time stood still...1959.  Classic American cars everywhere.

'Right then!  I find the entire premise of this thread silly!  On behalf of the unrepresented members of Bellgab I would like to declare the preceding bit as overtly silly and move on.  Now, nobody likes a good laugh more than I do, except perhaps a few of the people I work with. Oh yes, and my father. Come to think of it, most people like a good laugh more than I do, but that's beside the point.  Carry on and stop this silliness.

My daughter isn't school age yet, but its just a matter of time.  Some schools in our area abide by these common core standards.  I have spoken with a few parents, of both positive and negative thoughts and opinions, and would hesitate before placing my daughter in this method of schooling. I understand the concept, but is it really building skills that otherwise would be neglected? I don't think so.  I could definitely do the work with my child, but would feel inclined to teach the same skills I learned.  It seems like so much extra work for these kids.  I didn't see common core having its own thread, and rather than clicking around all over to read I figured I'd try to hijack this shit.
Any body have or know kids on common core? What's your opinion?

the fix for those taste-bud deadening disks that are placebo  pizza :

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/pizza-pizzas-recipe4.html

Americans spend about 20 billion dollars a year on pizza. That would suggest that about, uh, oh, 19 billion, nine hundred ninety-nine million of that actually goes towards placebo pizzas: palate deadening disks who, long ago, sold their soul in the name of fast food. Which is kind of ironic when you consider the fact that time is one of the crucial ingredients of quality pizza.

I've been making my own pizza for years! Very few of the local places make a decent pie. It is a multi step process that does take time, but the results are worth it! Plus you know your ingredients are fresh and good quality. Thanks for the Alton Brown link!  :)

There's not nearly enough Father Ted in this thread
