It's starting to sound like Art is trying to get the anger of him abruptly quitting on us again off of him and trying set up others as the bad guys.   Seems Art wanted  out and NOW is trying to nullify the anger against him for quitting on everybody once again.

Hope i'm wrong but this is sounding like bull.

I do think he is using the Sirius streaming problems as an excuse to reach a wider audience via his website so Bob Crane sells more gadgets, he gets better callers, and C2C has viable competition.

He should have just gone back to broadcasting from KNYE and streamed from ab.com, and only add affiliates that met his format/commericals demands. It seems like every time he signs an agreement he gets taken to the woodshed. Instead of the extraterrestrial/terrestrial radio meme, it should have been UNIVERSAL radio.

So you'd rather honor a non compete clause after being off the air for years than fight it?

I generally jump on conspiracies but Art, the only reason you aren't on the air currently is due to a decision you made. You could continue on Sirius and negotiate with them while still being on air.
I don't want to just say it's other forces at work here and just leave it at that.

Art, you don't owe me or anyone else anything, sure a lot of us spent money to hear you but that was our choice. Another two years off the air means you will be 70 and we as listeners will be another two years without our favorite host. That would be unacceptable to me if I was in your position but I'm not so maybe you have some other reason.

And you brought the word honor into it, no corporate entity is honorable, they have a bottom line and if keeping you off the air helps that bottom line then they will. So you might find it honorable to hold yourself to a bullshit non compete (you weren't even on for two months) but the execs will just laugh at you and us for it.

It's your life, it's your choices, but a lot of other people are effected by them, for good or bad.

WHY would you accept a non compete clause with Sirius after spending years off the air with all the bs you had to put up with Premiere ? What you should have done is said " Lets try it and see if we have a listener base & if we have problems, we'll fix it. If it doesn't work out after 6 months, I can leave and start over somewhere else. "

You locked yourself into one coffin only to climb into another one once the Premiere chains were cut.

I don't get that.

I'm not going to be any younger in 2 years either and by then most except the most die hard fans will not know Art Bell from Bell Markets.

The time to strike and make your mark was now, not to sit in Pahrump and do nothing.

Again.

While your fan base grew bitter and felt betrayed, lost and alone with no where to turn to for the kind of program that YOU and only YOU could provide.

They wanted radio with ART BELL.

Not a hack successor host.

Not a substitute host.

But the real McCoy.

And their anger is because they feel cheated, robbed and put upon because YOU and Sirius got their hopes up after being Bell free for years and after having to listen to Noory and his ridiculous patter for 10 years while you sat in the high desert locked into a no compete enforced retirement.

Sirius is at fault in this too. They should have made sure their software could have handled the load of thousands of new listeners and they didn't.

We love and care for you Art. If we didn't we could have had MV shut this site down and gone and done other stuff.

But its because we care that we're sending out the letters and emails and raising hell to do ANYTHING to get YOU back on the air.

Your listenership has spoken. But we can only do so much and we don't have much clout with the suits at Sirius.

IF I were you, I'd do what I do with my bank and phone company. When customer service won't do anything, I call the executive offices at corporate and get someone there to help me. It works. And works better if you raise hell as a stockholder.

As an example, I got told that I could not discontinue my land line for months. I finally called A T & T in Houston and got them to give me Uverse and disconnect my home phone. They're still incompetent because they FAILED to do it when it was supposed to be done in October and tried to bill me for it. But it has now been done and now I pay $ 36 for just the internet instead of almost $100 a month.

Set up a personal appointment with the guy who went to you and ASKED you to go on to Sirius in the first place. No suits. Just you and him man to man and hash things out.

Sirius loses in the long run by not having you on the air too.

why?  what happens if you don't honor it?  or if you take it to court?

i just can't believe all of this went down this way.  it's as if i imagined this situation while on LSD and now that the trip has subsided, i realize it was not a hallucination.

In the end, I don't care if Art honors the NC--as long as he keeps to his pledge to start the show up after the NC is over.

Otherwise this all comes off as Art making phony excuses for just wanting to quit.

And I agree completely with you MV, honoring a non compete after all these years is just sickening.

Can we some how get Art to sign a contract with bellgab to honor us patient and devoted fans?  :'(

I still think it's the ol' corporate 'sweat 'em through the weekend' act.

Nothing is going to happen until Monday.  Afternoon.  Last minute.

Fuck, I made bacon-banana bread.  These are strange, dark times, BellGabbers.

I think Art's being above board with us. The business plan he presents as an independent broadcaster and his hopes to increase his better audio callers all makes sense. Exclusive for free to Sirius seems quite attractive. I would imagine a podcast sponsorship would be far cheaper for C. Crane, thus lowering the sales threshold needed to keep sponsoring. It all makes logical sense and probably would fly so long as plenty of people are made aware of the show's free stream. I'm sure Art has a plan for that too.

I also doubt it would be the right time for Art to say "Damn right I'm suing my way out of the non-compete!" with the question still open with SXM. No need to piss them off right now.

Calm down, calm down. Nothing can be known until the yes or the no comes definitively.
I don't think he wants a big lawsuit. Liberty Media just a investor grp that owns radio sta SXM etc to make $ as opposed to our guy  Art who it seems is handling this on his own, I am sure have an entire floor full of corp and entertainment lawyers doing nothing but waiting for "talent" like Art to sue them. I do not think he wants that...but what do I know!?

NO, these are the ones right off the Powerball site today.

www.powerball.com/powerball/pb_numbers.asp

3 9 37 49 56 powerball -- 32

and some guy back east just won a second million dollar lotto jackpot after winning one a couple of months ago.

I haven't won more than $ 5 on powerball so far.

Signing the contract which includes the non compete is not a "choice" per se, it's the standard operating procedure to be on the air.  And while talking with the CEO is a great option, it won't work after you've slammed the door and shut out the lights.
Any talk about options after that one big **slam** to them or us is just useless posturing and spin.
Sad, but true.

The only good to come out of this has been this entertaining forum with truly devoted and disappointed fans.

That would be nice.  It was great to listen to new Art Bell shows on my front porch while enjoying a cigar and an adult beverage.

Yes, Art will be doing remotes direct from YOUR front porch on your swinging sofa that has been out there since 1953.

And Noory came on to give us more ammo to fire on him.

But ... there's the old Jewish/Yiddish saying that says " it wouldn't hurt. ", usually meant ironically.

What would it hurt for Art to try ? The worst that could happen is either the guy won't meet  with him or he'd say no.

He certainly wouldn't be any worse off for NOT trying.

Ok, I threw an I Ching.  I got hexagram 11. Peace, with the bottom line changing:

Peace. The small departs,
          The great approaches.
          Good fortune. Success.

Changing yang at the bottom means:
When ribbon grass is pulled up, the sod comes with it.
          Each according to his kind.
          Undertakings bring good fortune.

Changing into Hexagram 46. Pushing Upward.

Pushing Upward has supreme success.
One must see the great man.
          Fear not.
          Departure toward the south
          Brings good fortune.

Which confirms my original hunch of Monday.  But, I'd be happy to pull some tarot or some runes if you want.   ;D

.......for a miracle.

Maybe one of those brainy asteroids of $noory will veer off course and knock Sirius's satellite out of orbit and when they put another one up, they'll be so desperate they'll come to Art and give him his own channel with complete control and free streaming.
