I doubt it. Thugs all over the place these days and in some cases they treat it like a game. It doesn't take much cajones or training to sucker punch someone or attack someone from behind in a group. And, unfortunately in many places, the lack of description (or more properly common description,) the frequency, and 'don't snitch' culture means they won't be caught unless they happen to do it by a place with CCTV, cop, or alert other citizen nearby or when fencing their stolen goods stupidly. I'm not even sure police invest hard in these circumstances unless someone is seriously injured. Between meth heads in rural areas and 'urban culture' in cities it is a crazy world and police are outnumbered and overworked. And reigned in because they don't want to get sued, or worse, in some cases.

Sorry for the rant but have known victims of crimes where police didn't even come to investigate (because 'simple burglary', because nobody home (luckily,) when presumed methheads kicked in door and stole stuff and so just 'fill out the form and call your insurance.' Or do show up but 'description too vague' and no follow up after a elderly relative got jumped by 'youths' carrying his groceries to his door. Pistol whipped but luckily 'thick skull' and not shot, just for the heck of it, but no follow up from police except 'no leads' and 'cancel your credit cards.' And that is it.

Sorry Bateman, it must have been a horrible and frightening experience. I didn't mean to be cold in the way I stated that, and I certainly didn't mean to imply you did anything wrong. I guess we get used to gossiping and coming up with speculation on here too much sometimes. I'm glad you got things checked out. You have youth on your side which is a big plus when it comes to dealing with concussions.

I've been away all day and night, and just got in. But I wanted to tell you two things that might help in the future, Steve. 1. Change your route home, just in case they think you're a rich guy who has replaced his phone. 2. Only put one earbud in, so you can hear the outside as you walk, too.

Good to hear you're physically ok. Another often neglected issue after an assault is the emotional trauma which also needs time to heal. We don't leave home expecting to be mugged. Don't be too hard on yourself about what you 'should have, 'could have' done. Take care...
