If that happens, I hope that MV would take steps to prevent them from monopolizing the forum with their brand of trolling-at-its-worst and thereby ruining what has been a good place for the rest of us to have sincere discourse on the stuff we love and have in common.  My opinion is that if the forum has a huge onslaught of 4channers trying to do their worst, that MV seriously needs to reconsider his current "mostly hands off" moderation method.

I don't see this as a bad temporary measure. In case it comes to this.

He should take a leaf out of President-Elect Trump's book and his exhaustively thought out (on the back of an envelope in Starbucks) plan to stop them stinky towelheads blowin' shit up 'n' stuff. Let's ban anyone under the age of 30 until we figure out what's going on.

Phew! You're safe from being banned, then.

I wish I could say the same for you. Meet your new moderator. I have been asked to shake out the fleas. Pack your bags, bitch, and fling your filth elsewhere!

And then you woke up. It's nice to dream, isn't it?

Talking about dreams. I found myself thinking I was being drilled by three dudes at the same time. And then realised it was just my subconscious reminding me about your typical work day.

Let me finish my meal first. I haven't even got the check yet.

Well, it's kinda like going to your favorite restaurant to have a good meal. Food is good. You don't mind paying the check and leaving a tip.

The owners even let some homeless people eat for free at the counter. You think that's neat. Real nice owner. The homeless people are grateful for the free food, and they don't smell too bad. Your food is still good and the service is ok. So no problems.

More and more homeless people start showing up and they start sitting at the tables instead of just at the counter. They talk real loud and some of them don't smell so good. Well now your food doesn't taste quite as good, and the service seems to have gone downhill.

So you look for another restaurant or maybe start cooking more. The owner loses a paying customer. Maybe a couple of paying customers. Pretty soon the owner can't afford to feed the homeless people anymore so he has to find a way to keep them from coming in.

But even when the owner cleans out the homeless he still doesn't have those paying customers. It takes time for those loyal paying customers to go back and see if the food is as good as it once was.

It's kinda like that.  Except here, even the smelly homeless people generate some revenue... From Adsense. So enough homeless people might actually become self-sufficient.

What a touching analogy, Gravity. Heart-warming to think (and as an afterthought) that the homeless are "good for something" after-all. Magnanimous! Gravity may suck, but you ain't gettin to Heaven any quicker this way, Pilot. Secret: A Shower is a lot easier to obtain than a Soul.

My shower stopped working the other day, so this is a point that touches me rather nearly. I have got used to being without a soul - and frankly there aren't all that many in the UK to remind you of the loss - but faced with the prospect of being unable to lather myself up and sing 'Ol Man River' for several days either, that deal with Old Scratch wasn't looking quite so solid after all. Yes, I may sound like a sexy vampire, but I also smell like a polecat. What's a girl to do?

I'm not up on my Brit lexicon.  A polecat is a cat that belongs to a stripper, correct?

Avoid polecats. Especially verbose polecats

A pole cat is a skunk. They call it that because a skunk looks like a black cat with a white pole down its back.

Excuse me if I seem a bit jaded... You see the liberals down here in Houston have passed an ordinance that makes it illegal for a mere citizen  to actually feed the homeless.  It is actually a law that is rigorously enforced. It seems that when private individuals take their own initiative, the homeless people don't actually show up to the city run shelters to get fed. The less that show up, means the less they get from the Federal government to feed the homeless. Yep, liberals have big hearts as long as government grants and bureaucrats get to decide who gets fed what, when and where.

As far as the condition of my soul, it is quite healthy actually.

Its true the Libs sure do like having control over the rest of us, since they know best

The other part is that the top jobs at the city agencies set up to deal with the homeless pay very well and have lavish benefits, and many of the exes at the 'non-profits' that receive various government grants take home healthy paychecks as well.  Fewer homeless or less federal cash threatens all that.

onan

I don't pretend to follow politics on a local level in Texas. I don't know their motivation. But I do know this, there are many pressures upon any city politicos to resolve issues with the homeless. In the local politics in NC, in Henderson, NC Art Pope (go ahead, look him up. right wing nut ball with lots of money, buying political favors.) pressured the city to stop a yearly event to help buy books for children in preschool programs. It seems that one day a year interfered with one of his many stores doing business.

Back to the point, logistics is always important, and in today's world with today's money, food is a hard commodity to keep constantly available. I do know that several food banks have difficulty maintaining distribution when several other people want to help. No one is meaning harm but the divesting of food to several points with no coordination is a disservice to everyone. And it is really too bad that no matter what is done, the homeless are the ones that continue to suffer.

It is a very complicated problem, including mental illness, disenfranchisement, the economy, and the desire to make hunger and homelessness another political football.
