very true.  yeah, i understand people feel strung along and don't want to be disappointed repeatedly, but there really is no cost in hoping for good things to happen.  i'm aware of and know people who live by the "expect nothing, get no disappointment" approach, but i find that a rather depressing way of plowing through life.
