I think he's singing modern Enka, or perhaps a folk song or even a pop song.  His name is Shinichi Mori.  (I'm no expert, I translated his name, lol.)  Here's some info on him:   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinichi_Mori

its like an outsourced version of tom jones meets the 700 club with a twist of the elvis '68 comeback special.

this is possibly the 1985 hyundai of musical performance.

See I thought it had influences from Elvis and that style with the backup singers, but not what you'd call it.
