I don't know why I can't post in the podcast chat, but I can't, so I'll post this here.

In regards to your comments about the referees calling 'too many' penalties and interrupting the flow of the game - it's up to the players and coaches to be disciplined and to play within the rules.  If there are too many penalties being called, blame them

all I'm saying is it sucks to watch a game when there's a penalty on every other play. Whether the refs are flag happy.  Calling that game particularly tight for fear of 2  heated rival teams getting out of control (Dallas at Eagles)  or the players were playing undisciplined and sloppy.
Whom ever is at fault, it still sucks as a fan. perhaps I attributed 100% of the problem to the refs, which obviously isn't the case.
Do you disagree that the referee crews will call a game differenly depending on the time of year? Regular season week 2 vs Conference Championship game or the Super Bowl.
the refs are highly trained but it still comes down to a judgement call at the discretion of that particular referee/crew at full game speed.
Ref #1 might keep the flag in his pocket for borderline offensive holding, while referee #2 will throw the flag.

Some get it wrong, some get it right. I'll still complain. It's what fans do right? Lol ;)

Am now going for 4 in a row. my pick is Vikings -2.5. Peterson and company have owned the Chargers and until Gates gets back I don't like Chargers to have any red zone offence.

Letting it ride?
As long as AP can get in 'game shape' again and manage to hold on to the ball.

I'd better say this while I can - my Jaguars are in 1st place.

Lol. The Jags played great last week. Can't tell if they are marginally better this year or if Miami is just terrible.
You should get a boost when TE J. Thomas is back on the field in the next few weeks.

Oh, we did a show. It was a secret show. Meant for the worthy. It was probably the best show we have ever done. Jaz was brilliant, as usual. Eddie Dean, what can you say. He actually danced, a tap number with singing. B_Dubb joined in, although still a beginner his guitar solo was memorable. MV was there (but his manager is such a jerk). (Redacted) dropped by and brought her boss. He wanted to talk but there was so little time. Then we had an audience participation finale. Everyone held hands,  connecting us, each and everyone of us (well the special ones) from state to state, country to country, and we all realized we are all together, all one. It was inspiring.

Lol! It was an epic party!
The hand sanitizer dispensers were put to good use! :P

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had some great things to say about Brandon Weeden  Tuesday morning:
Quote from: Jerry Jones on 105.3 FM
"This quarterback Weeden can drive the ball down field,”
“He’s a thing of beauty on throwing a football. His passing motion and his arm, frankly, you won’t see a more gifted passer, power, accuracy, the entire aspect of it. If he can basically prepare, be the starting quarterback, come in and execute and keep his head right, then I feel good about Weeden.”

He sounds very confident about Weeden's abilities, right?
Well.....Tuesday afternoon Dallas has acquired QB Matt Cassel from the Bills.

Maybe Jones took a look at Weeden's stat sheet and realized he will most likely implode under the pressure of QB1.

Sorry gabbers,
No show tonight.
I'm too busy preparing for the "end of the world" tomorrow.

The Gabcast will return next week but we may have loads of freeze dried water & extra packets of rice to give away to the 1st caller! ;) ;D

This is smart and fabulous!

But because Art said the signal would be in STEREO, does this mean he's targeting FM stations? In our market, I don't know of any that switch to talk radio at any point -- unless you count the NPR or University stations on the very obscure parts of the radio dial.

Yes. I'd guess the stereo feed is provided so either FM or AM stations can easily carry the show. Summing a stereo signal to mono is a simple precedure for an AM station.

THAT is the big shocking news that some people might "hate"?

Sigh. THAT WAS SO ANTICLIMACTIC!

I'm glad it's good news! I was bracing myself for a Bell-Hoagland BRRAAAPSFest Happy Happy Fun Time Variety Show or a new partnership with Jorch or something.

It's a good thing to reach more listeners with the XDS feed, but I don't understand why Art said people would be angry.  Unless there is more big news to come.
I still think there will be more ads on the show. If not now, soon.

I did pretty well this week.  I would have done even better if I hadn't let a "couple of dudes" influence me into changing a couple of picks.  I should have stayed with the Lions and the Rams!

Ah well.  Live and learn. ;)

Haha.

No, this has not always been the case, and to me it's poor sportsmanship and the ball shouldn't be awarded to the defense as a 'fumble' recovery when it happens.

I'm not sure when it started, I think players have always reached out and slapped the ball away when it wasn't properly protected, which is fine.  Then it got to be a thing to try to 'strip' the ball out of the ball carriers' hands late in a close game when the opponent had the lead and the ball and was running out the clock.  At some point, defenses started doing it the whole game, and instead of 'slashing' at the ball they started punching it as you mentioned.  I don't like it either.

I've seen plays when forward progress was stopped, a couple defenders would keep the ball carrier from going down while a couple other defenders tried to rip the ball out of his hands.  That isn't football.

I have no problem with the defender slapping, punching or ripping at the ball. It's part of the game. Sure it has gotten more prevalent, esp. if the defending team is behind.  It can be a risk for the defender to go for the ball instead of trying to tackle the ball carrier. I've seen games where the defender allows the offensive player gain another chunk of yardage due to going for the ball and not the tackle. It makes the game more exciting.

Quote
I'm also tired of the pass defenders having their hands all over a receiver as they are running down the field together before the ball gets there.  When they show the replays, especially in slow-motion, the dumbass announcers declare it fine because both the defender and receiver are doing it.  Wrong, the receiver shouldn't have to keep trying to get the defenders hands off him.  They ought to throw the flag for pass interference every time there is any contact - maybe make it a lesser 5 or 10 yard penalty when the infraction isn't fully worthy of awarding the offense the ball way downfield, with the current PI rules the choice for the officials is awarding the ball to the offense way downfield, or no call at all.

They did add a new rule a few years ago to address the all or nothing PI penalty. It gives the refs an option to call a lesser penalty for illegal contact or hand fighting between the defender and receiver.   It's a 5 yrd penalty with an automatic 1st down & can be called where the ball is thrown or away from the play.
There is loads of contact between defender and receiver these days, but the refs sometimes don't see it. I'd rather have them miss a call or two instead of calling PI or defensive holding  every  time a players make contact, incidental or not.

One thing to remember is we're hard core fans and his messages are not just for us and his base but to the whole world. .

Indeed!
Art enjoys yanking chains. Not in a mean or vindictive way. it's playful imho.  It's easy to see by his history of posts here and on FB, he enjoys stirring up the base, then he sits back to see how people react.  It is entertaining to see the wide range of emotions & reactions people have about a guy doing a radio show.  I don't understand why some take it so personally, get so worked up & angry, about a marketing tactic and a smart business move, which btw, happens all the time in the entertainment industry.

He posts vague hints and clues about a big announcement to create a buzz. It's marketing 101.
The "sometimes vicious, yet vaguely lovable" fans at bellgab & FB will run with it. We will spend all weekend posting wild speculative guesses which in turn will draw in more people who might otherwise not care.  Its self perpetuating & smart in terms of getting the masses to do the work for you.
Buzz buzz buzz. :)
Enjoy the ride people!
