Easy peasy. Quote a post, then highlight and cut that post. Go back a page to before you quoted and quote a second post. Then paste the original post that you cut in the new reply box. Now you will have 2 quotes.  :)

I don't know if this worked but it tasted, almost, as good as mushy peas (which I love.)

I hear mushy peas are a great canned item to store in case of apocalypse. They're right up there with heirloom seeds and glow in the dark condoms. (Hey, you never know when the lights will go out.)

Heh heh...Hoorah! Glad to see there are others here who remember the Golden Days of Shred. It's always funny to watch Vai in these early videos. You'd think a guitar god who was also tall and good-looking would be cocky as hell, but I really think he was very awkward and bashful and sort of didn't know what to do with himself in front of a camera. It's also amusing because he was so good a player he could do what other guitarists were still struggling to be able to play while making funny faces and looking in the other direction. ;-)
How about a little Paul Gilbert. Talk about a god of the guitar. This guys never ceases to boggle my mind, with his never-ending mastery of new areas, and that big kid personality of his. ;-0

And where is that bone smuggler now? Bald, pot-bellied and wandering the beaches of San Juan with a metal detector and a trash bag full of redeemable cans.

Thank you, brother. I went there and checked it out. Looks promising. I'm not into CP, so no worries there.

Oddly, I do the same for other reasons in the summer down here in my FEMA Region VI. Less sunburn, windburn out on boat, less time needing to shave in a bathroom that, often due to vents n showers warmer than other rooms, etc. And, this year, due to Jade Helm  ;)

FEMA Region VI? Jade Helm? Do I smell conspiracy theorist, or is that just your aftershave?  :P

Technology / Finding deep web discussion forums and such
September 22, 2015, 10:19:05 PM

I have been interested for some time in finding some forums for discussing matters of a political and technological nature on the deep web or dark web, because of the increasing amount of snooping done by our gov't, and after watching a documentary the other night on the capture of Dread Pirate Roberts and the concerted effort by Uncle Sam to crack down, as they see it, on users of encryption of the deep web, I am even more determined to find such sites so I have some feeling of privacy when speaking my mind. From what I understand, though, you have to be invited to a deep web site, and because the sites don't show up in search results, you don't know their URLs, etc.

Bottom line, do any of you critters use the deep web, and know of any forums there for free and open exchange of ideas that I might try, using Tor? Thanks.

I watched Being Canadian last night, a documentary now on iTunes and elsewhere. It was made by a Hollywood TV writer who is Canadian, whose quest was to find out what it means to be Canadian and figure out why Americans have such a mysterious lack of knowledge about their neighbor country. It is filled with interviews with lots of Canadian celebrities, Hollywood actors, comedians and Rush. ;-) It's very funny and definitely worth viewing.

P.S. The current Doctor's companion is a cute girl, if a little annoying, but why won't they give us more dead sexy beauties like Freema Agyeman and Billie Piper (who for a girl wot needs orthodontia as badly as she does was flamin' hot).

I just finished watching Season 3 of Defiance, the SyFy Channel show starring Julie Benz, Grant Bowler, Jaime Murray and others. I started watching originally because I'm a long-time Julie Benz admirer--she is a stupendous talent and a gorgeous woman. I also like some of the other cast very much. And I love sci fi. The show was never great, but watchable and at times good. It had a clever enough premise, namely an immigrant story, with widely diverse peoples trying to get along in an urban environment during trying times, but adapted to a sci fi setting, where the different "immigrant" groups are different alien (and human) races, and they're all trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic landscape.

The first two seasons were cute, as I say, but then this last season either the writers dropped collective acid or, more likely, a group of network execs made some retarded decisions about the show--like marginalizing Julie Benz's character to the point where she almost wasn't on the show, even though of all the cast she's probably the biggest draw, with her large fan base from her Buffy/Angel and Dexter days. There were moments that were pretty good, and in the last episode or two things improved somewhere, but basically it sucked bull anus. A lot of it was painfully stupid and poor Julie Benz, with her great talent, looked like she was barely enduring it. I hope they let her go so she can pursue something at her level. She's doing a few episodes of Hawaii 5-0 now, although I don't watch that.

Agree, dude. Rowan's Doctor is my personal favorite.

Had I called her out on it she could have shown up at my house. I have a very weird name as most of you know. It could have blown up in my face. So now I just go to parties, and events that friends invite me to and try and meet girls the old fashioned way. By talking to them in person. LOL.

Ponyboy, let me assure you that you are not alone. Before I, too, swore off internet dating, years ago, I had not one, but several similar incidents. One of them got as scary as yours and I still feel I escaped by the skin of my teeth. The next stop was a restraining order.

No matter how much the technology has evolved, what remains true is that the internet, particularly when it comes to sex and dating, is the home of weirdos, psychos, looney toons and, as in your case, those recently released from some of our finer institutions of higher learning.  :-* It's hardly surprising. Well-adjusted people who are comfortable socially hang out with and meet people in the real world; it's where bonds can form in a natural way. It is the poorly adjusted folk who rely on the anonymity and remoteness of online communication, and one is well-advised to always be on guard.

OK, y'all, serious literature time. I finished H is for Hawk last night, by Helen Macdonald, and am here to tell you I was blown away--and then some. Its nature is my favorite kind of literature--internal, contemplative, poetic, transformative. If you want to take a break from lighter fare and go on a journey within, pick this one up. By the way, if you're into audiobooks like me, the author herself reads the edition you can find on Audible, and as it turns out has the perfect voice for it. I lay there for ten hours entranced.

I saw the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons mentioned a while back.  Another great book of his is The Terror.  It is a fictionalized account of Sir John Franklin's ill-fated 1845 expedition to find the Northwest Passage.  It contains an explanation that shows why Mr. Simmons can write effectively in several different genres. There is one bizarre scene that I still visualize as shot by Stanley Kubrick. Check it out.

Thanks for the recommendation, whoozit. Hyperion is a righteous book, so I just went over to Audible and put The Terror in my wish list. Now, for those of you looking for one of the greatest books ever written, read Steppenwolf, by Hermann Hesse, which I just did. Let me say that I was very glad I was middle-aged before attempting this novel, as one must be so, in my opinion, to properly understand to Harry Haller, its protagonist, his plight, his descent. Do not pass go or collect two hundred Simoleons, just read the dern thing.

Technology / Google Hangouts (and such)
September 13, 2015, 03:36:05 PM

Dear Sirs or Madams,

So lately I've been thinking of availing myself of this newfangled internet for social purposes, i.e. to find some like-minded folk and hang out with them, maybe even make some new fiends. I mean friends. Now I don't know whether Google Hangouts are the most popular method of doing so, or if more people use Skype or something else, but if any of you know anything about how to find groups of people interested in something you're into, and be part of live hangouts and such, I'd be grateful for some guidance. I was just over on the Hangouts site perusing it all and learned a few things, though not how to be alerted of upcoming hangouts.

I have the same problem with my LG G3 when I line-in to my car or use headphones. I have not found a way to turn off the warning. Thankfully I'm getting rid of this piece of crap phone.

Yes, the line-in to my car is another instance in which this happens. What you mention about your phone being an LG, as opposed to my Samsung, suggests a possibility I've considered all along, namely that the reason this annoying warning screen cannot be disable is that it exists in order to comply with some government regulation, in which case all manufacturers would have to go along with it. Another possibility, far more likely, is that it is a pre-emptive measure intended to stave off class action lawsuits. God knows we're all hassled nowadays by example of this, like having to take our cars in to the dealer every ten minutes because of endless recalls--all because a bunch of choad-gobbing ass monkeys want to get rich quick via bogus lawsuits. Off with their heads.

I picked up a 7000 13" Insipiron 2 in 1 during Dell's outlet sale - I think it was 50% off and got it for about $300. I'm way impressed with it. I can see where a tablet can be useful (I own an iPad) but having a full computer OS with a keyboard can be useful at times. I'm really enjoying Windows 10 as well - no crashes thus far for me.

Thanks, bro, that's kind of what I was getting at. A full computer, with a keyboard. The only issue, of course, is that a laptop is not a mobile (LTE) device. True, I can use my Galaxy S6 as a mobile hotspot, but I've never done this before and don't know how reliable or fast the connection would be, as compared to the LTE capabilities of my Tab S. If any of y'all know about this, do share.

I'm just watching this documentary Dark Web, about the FBI's hunt to capture the Dread Pirate Roberts, which goes into not only the technological side of the deep web, but the political philosophy behind the Silk Road. I would love to hear an interview with someone with authoritative knowledge in this area. There is one particular journalist in this documentary, I think a Wired guy, who interviewed Ross Ulbricht, the DPR, before his capture, and knows a lot. He would be a good guest.
Also William S. Burroughs, the author, who's dead, but that shouldn't be a problem for Art.

I think JJ Abrams would be an interesting interview.  I've been plowing through episodes of Fringe and I think he has, at least, listened to some Art.

Let's face it: if we are going to indulge in some of the extravagent stories that we do, many of which can NOT ALL BE TRUE, why not talk about the general theater of Science Fiction?

I'm down with that. Art did interview Chris Carter back in the X-Files days, and we know Carter often paralleled Art's show on the TV series. Plus there was Art's connection with Chris Carter's other show Millennium, which Art guest starred on. Fringe was a sort of dumber down X Files, in my opinion, with the exception of a handful of very cool episodes. JJ Abrams would be an interesting guest not only because of that, but because Lost dealt with some Paranormal themes, and obviously Star Trek.

Technology / Samsung Galaxy S series problem...
September 11, 2015, 01:50:56 PM

OK, I have posted about this in both Android Central and official or major Samsung forums, and many users expressed their agreement with my frustration with the issue I'm going to describe, but no one has had a solution that I've seen. I hope someone here does.

I've owned several Galaxy S series phones and love them all, but there is a feature which causes a warning to pop up whenever you hit the volume Up button after either plugging in headphones or connecting to a Bluetooth speaker. The warning says "Listening to music at high volume can damage your hearing, blah blah blah" I have never found any way to disable this feature, which is very annoying and persistent. Does anyone know a way? If it involves scripting and such, I don't know how to do that.
