No, because someone who changes their ideas on existence based what evidence they have personally examined and accepted is more akin to being a scientist.

Scientist and atheist are two different words, they are not even synonyms but I understand that people seem to have that idea

Atheism is simply a rejection of the proposition "gods exist." Some people may become atheists based on lack of evidence (I did), but you are not required to. You can be an atheist for bad reasons. Atheism does not require changing beliefs based on evidence. This has been tacked on to the definition, I suspect, because that's how most atheists operate.

Well, given how several segments have been repeated a few times, it definitely is. I also posted the other night how if you listen to him say 'Dark Matter News' at the top of each hourly segment, it sounds as though this was chopped up from a larger sentence due to the inflection in his voice in the 'dark' portion.

Right, I'm curious about this.  My understanding is that agnostic means you're just not sure, whereas athiests are absolutely sure (but still open to future evidence).

Wouldn't it be a wise move for Atheist to buy god insurance, just in case they are wrong?

Like ya know, I don't accept that I'll have a car accident, but have car and medical insurance just in case.

Thanks. So there can be atheists who even IF "evidence" was presented would still believe "no." To each their own, but I would think there should be another split in the definitions for those atheists who would change if "evidence" presented itself and those who would not, like some religious people, who would do similarly. Also what is the idea behind beliefs "based on evidence?" Evidence, of course- to use a Norryism- is also a rabbit-hole of discussion....

Interesting point.  But how about all the religious people spending their entire lives worshiping a God that they discover in the after-life did not exist?  Is that a wise way to live?
