So did Artbell ever reveal his problem?

Started by Chupacabra, August 29, 2015, 08:13:28 AM

Chupacabra

I was listening to a show from 1997 with Dannion Brinkley the other night

As the show was going on, Artbell said that he was very angry at something in his life, and that he could not tell anyone right now but he would sometime in the future, and that Brinkley called up his wife one day to make sure everything was ok because he could tell something was wrong.

Did Artbell ever reveal what the problem was?

Yes.

The first episode of Dark Matter he explained everything.

he revealed his dislike for people who begin every sentence with "so"

He really needed to save 15% or more on his car insurance. Luckily, Geico was there.

It was because some low down dirty SOB that messed with his son Scooter from a previous marriage.
Kid needed a lot of therapy to get over it. Plus the court case to convict the bastard for what he did.
Then Mr. Oates got his nose in it and cast aspersions against Art. Because of the defamation suit Art had to file
against Mr. Oates he had to lay low and keep quiet.
Here it is almost 20 years later. I hope Art's son is doing OK and has met someone special.
And I hope the Pervert and Mr. Oates have reserved seating in the front row of HELL when they pass on!

Just Me

I noticed towards the end of the art bell show he was getting testy with callers. His demeanor was rapidly going down hill as he cut callers off and roughed callers up on the phone if they rubbed him wrong. Listening to him now, he's a shell of his old self and lost the magix.

yes, I was listing back at that time too. To  My mind it seemed like burnout. I have run three different bulletin boards in my life and when burnout comes you just get testy, get angry and short tempered and board etc.
I like the way Art is now, kinder, gentler, more empathetic. loving life.

I think this every time I listen to a show post 'retirement'. Can never tell if he was frustrated with being there in general because of everything, or if he just got annoyed by the rapidly degrading quality of callers, or a little of both.

I have to vehemently disagree that he's lost anything though, he's back to form.

MV should be able to trace where he's posting from.

Been listening to Art Bell since 1998, and would disagree that he's lost the magic.  Honestly, I'm thrilled he's back, and haven't been disappointed in the least.

I was a regular listener to David Brudnoy on WBZ.  At one point I noticed he'd developed a harder edge & I liked it.  It was only later that I found out that was when he learned he'd developed AIDS!

And he was pissed at the world?

Did you listen to open lines last night? Because it was brilliant fun, and indistinguishable from a 1997 open lines show in my opinion.

I think Art is even BETTER now then he was in the past. It's like having a totally rejuvenated Art Bell. I hope his back pain issues are gone and that he sticks around for a minimum of 10 more years.

I agree -- open lines last night were an instant CLASSIC -- Art was on top of his game like never before and the callers (save one or two) were some of the best ever. The "grandpa" story was uber-eerie/one of the strangest ever ... and the way Art handled that kook that thought he was turning into a vampire was hilarious. I was literally LOLing. Totally loved it!!

Art is another example of what is possible regardless of age...Steve Spurier is 70 and still one of the top college coaches...it's a wild and fun ride with MITD! Art is better than ever!

Somewhat, I guess.
Like it's my fucking fault he was gobbling knobs at the Greyhound Bus station Men's room or taking it in the ass fm Haitian groundskeepers at the polo club.
Sheesh.  How about a little acccountability?

Agreed.  Friday's open lines show was outstanding.  The best MITD open lines thus far in my opinion.

You may be surprised to learn that there are other ways to get HIV. You know -- ways outside of your personal experience. Congratulations on your polo club membership, BTW.

Lola2001

Back in the 90's Art had a lot of problems with his back. At one point he was in a lot of pain and was pretty testy on the phone some nights. I think he must have gotten better meds cause he is even better now than back in the day. I'm really happy he is back. George was okay.....but Art is the king! He knows how to interview people and lets them talk. George cuts people off before the guest even finishes answering the question. I hate that.

Well, they do call me 'The Mallet.'  How did you get your dose?  Haitian waiter sneeze on your cock-tail?

You misspelled "mullet."
