"The Pleaides are big players here."  I heard once that one should always suspect alien stories from places with cool names.  It's always like Rigel or Arcturus or the Pleiades, never star 85735B-1.

why do some stars get names and some stars get numbers?

The names of the brightest stars that could be seen with the naked eye were all named in antiquity. As new ones are discovered, and dimmer ones in our galaxy, they are guven numbers.

By why? Why not give them names now? Why numbers? I want to name a star! Someone let me name a star!

usual jokes aside i do think that this reminds him of the moon landings

I hate to say it, but it's kind of infectious.  Normally I wouldn't give a fuck about a bunch of pinheads playing with their giant space drone.

Expat's gonna cry.

Go for it. It's quite reasonable.

I think there's a deal where you could buy the name for one, even give it as a gift.   8)

I came to Bellgab, became Queen and single handedly made it the official fan forum of Richard C. Hoagland replacing Art Bell.  All within a year. I have high expectations.

Forget a star, you might get your own constellation.

Why doesn't Fred just let them stay on all night? What else does he have to play on his shit network?

She is holding out for a galaxy

While a Galaxy and Constellation would be nice I really would just settle for a Star. Honest.

LMH is mentioning that Star Trek was actually part of alien disclosure.  I bet Hoagie didn't know his pal Gene actually worked for the CIA, right under his nose!

I want some future space colonists to say "We're now entering the Zeebo System."
