there was mention of quantum theory and some science-y stuff and then God and someone somewhere mentioned "pictures of God and Jesus" and really ... that's where i started rolling my eyes.

Since Bell has been out of the public for a long, long time and not made really any current statements, I think you're putting too much of your own personal story on to Bell, let him have his own story in his own way.

Without knowing anything about his personal life, my .02, to call Bell a 3x 'loser' is demeaning and humiliating and I"m not letting that go.  I'm divorced and if anyone was to say or write because of that I'm a 'loser', they should be prepared for the hounds of hell to be unleashed.

Listen, Sweetie, I'm a 3x loser too-- it's gallows humor, like African Americans calling each other nigger but nobody else can, capiche?

Anagrammy is the real deal, somewhat of our wise elder in the room.  Ditto Aquagoat.

Thanks for the kind words, aldous, T.W. Ev, and others. It is very healing to have something good come from lessons learned the very, very hard way.

i thought Ian's show was pretty damn interesting

I don't know anything about all of that said above.

I did hear Knapp say something to the effect of needing work.

Amazing.

What the hell is the deal?

Why should a genuine enquirer of any fact have to restrict him or herself
only to people who've written a book available on 'Amazon' or 'Borders'
or some one or another commercial venue?

Let the interviewer write a book or a dozen books.  So long as they are
based on actual people, events, or things with no particular financial
interest.

If the interviewer does realize some profit, it would be nice to see
some of that profit turn into largesse towards such subjects.

Thing is: radio-hosts nowadays are under the 'thumb' or 'hammer' of
'profit-first-profit-last' bastards: fuck the subject.

Do I feel sorry for the guy?  Not sure.  I do seem to see in radio,
'competition is a sin' is a kind of motto and principle.

And when competition 'happens', it is an act of 'war'.

Radio is an armament.

Where the hell has Aquagoat been lately?  I miss that dude.

I see that the Aqua has logged on to the forum.  I'm awaiting his pronouncements with more excitement than I am Art Bell's return.

I PM'd him and promised him a blow job. Virtually speaking, of course.  Just kidding- I told him we missed him and had been talking about him.  Hopefully, he'll find something that raises his blood pressure and will give us his two cents.

Aren't the Knights expecting a baby? That was supposed to be a while down the road I thought - I hope everything is okay.

Oh, yeah, you do kind of picture him opening up his coat and it's lined with watches and childrens books.  You will enjoy the recording of Ian sleeptalking on the HOSTS: Ian Punnett thread.

Welcome and post often!

I like the idea of pirate radio. Who owns the air? Or the waves in it?

I'm thinking of suing radio stations whose waves cross my property lines.

If I were a producer, I'd like to hear a show hosted by Hal 9000, Usagi
and Lena (all three of her/hims) as
co-hosts, and aldousburbank as on-air screener. A kind of question and
enquiry show with a vinegary, salty, smart-assy disrespect to idiots
who call in with idiotic, stupid questions.

Then, some actual guests. Kinda like an on-air version of The Straight-dope
by that fictional Adams collective.

I'd suggest as a 'science advisor William "Bill" Beaty, whose scope of
interest in science, weird and usual both is generous and practical (see:
http://amasci.com)

This group might dig up the character Decker, founder of the ultra-unusual
BBS and web-site called Keelynet.com who's never been a guest of ANY
C2C host so far as I'm aware.

With the cast of contributors to this page of coastgab and others, don't
think it would be difficult to scrounge up a good rotation of varied
hosts, all with different slants, and real grabbers of ears.

I'm sure such a group could scour out 'ads' or commercial supports to their
discretion of like sterling interest without resorting to the lowest
common denominator of fear and the ilk of crap that makes us turn down
the volume between talk.

Sure of it!

We would either be glued to the set wanting to hear more, or pissing our
pants laughing!  Yet based on real stuff.

I'm serious!

I've kept a list of regular contributors to this site that have made me
think, laugh and etc. I just put forward the random first few.

anagramy could be the 'dr. laura' replacement.

b_dubb could kick ass on a 'rush'

onan could have people on and end up asking every guest if he wasn't going
insane or not (based on the avatar, which cracks me up every time I see it
....almost as much as aldous' avatar).

The rotation might take a week. What would be 24/7/365 rotation be?

People would jam the phone lines: do you mean to tell us we're not going
to hear from EvB for another three months!

I'd leave that to lots, or dice.  Might hear from Hal or anyone else
twice a week, maybe once a month.

Just to keep it interesting.

I suppose, though, money would win out in the end.

Idiot listeners would end up choosing someone, and the show would end
up a piece of crap, just like C2C.

No such thing as co-op radio.

Course, if one had a bunch of tapes, a fast car, broadcast equipment . . .
he or she could put together whatever they wanted. No advertisers, just
a bunch of cops after their asses.

Oh, and BTW, I think "Do you think it was angels?" would be great as the
week-end car mechanic advise person, where the answer to every question
on spark plugs, oil or whatever is: die American scum, we will destroy
you! (quote from the Osama Bin Laden 'Car Maintenance Tips' in the
Portland mag: Mercury).

i'm listening to this show now.  this guy is interesting.  but the jump to god and souls and yatta yatta yatta just comes out of nowhere.  and that's when he sounds less like a scientist and more like a new age crazy.

'the soul is voltage'

this guy sounds slightly manic now

George sucks

Cotterell is interesting. He's done a ton of work, something like 30 years worth. Traveled all over the world, visited rare sites trying to put the picture together based on what he's found. You almost have to listen to all his shows for the past 10 years to link all his theories together though. That one last show with Knapp was his curtain call.

I'm going to buy his books when I can justify spending the extra mulla on them. He's sold about 3 million copies.

Whether you like him or not, Ian is the best open lines host after Art.
to each his own, personally I can't stand him.

Ian with open lines is the best.. I free on that one

Well, speaking of something said above about 'abiotic oil' and whatever
deviousness involved in oil and gas prices notwithstanding: while talking
to my brother-in-law about how to fix a lawn-mower, we got to talking about
oil (which every grease-monkey is practically anointed with by virtue of
the shit they do every-day).

And my BIL (brother-in- . . . wait, he's my nieces' significant other, so
he'd be my 'nephew-in-law'! As shit, I should re-write this post . . . ah
fuck it):

He asked me: do you think oil prices are going to go down?

Trying to seem 'smart' I tried to hold my breath for a momement, and then
come up with something that sounded 'intelligent'.

'Yeah! Sure! Of course!'

Like most of these conversations between two ignoramuses, every attempt will
be made to try to justify any opinion.

After an uncomfortable pause, he brought up from the fount of his (he's not
a dummy) discretion or figuring about things, that there is something strange
about 'tar oil'.

I rejoined: well, there's 'shale-oil'.

One thing led to another, and we were both dredging up things we'd read
or heard or saw on some tv show.

He said some things way over my head, but then I recalled a show hosted
by Alan Alda in which he was interviewing Robert Ballard.

Ballard said all of the ocean's water moves into the depths of the earth
and comes out again so many years (millions? don't recall the time cycle).

Imagine all the bio-mass suspended in ocean water.

Phytoplankton, krill, dead-sea-weed, tons of dead fish, whales, 'giant
squids'. . . every living thing dying in the oceans will to some degree
go along with the ocean water and subducted into the 'bowels of the earth'.

Yet it comes out again, according to Ballard to Alda.

So: not all 'dinosaurs' or surface plant life making these pools called
'ol'.

We don't know how this globe works, exactly. Some alternatives to thinking
have as of yet never been open to discussion on C2C. Seems like every
extremity, usually devolving on some critique of a political thesis
becomes the bottom line.

Thus far, something that could be interesting, developable so far as
thinking and reflection and exploration is concerned: not.

C2C is mono-polar.  For my money, that is worse than bi-polar or even
schizophrenic talk.  The ravings of mad-men and women at least can be
instructive or probatively (in a reverse kind of way) cautionary. Maybe
intertaining . . . but only a sick kind of way probably.

Otherwise 'monopolar' talk is hypnotically BOOOORRRRING. Shutting down
interest in anything remotely related that might actually be SANE.

Truly probative. Truly of intense interest to regular folk.

GAWD! Do we need a Reichian, Jungian or even (God forbid) Freudian
to explain why this venue is, in and of itself crazy?

Last night N was talking with a coulple of guys about 'Roswell'.

I listened only to the last few moments of the show.

Somehow one of the guests got a query from GN so that he replied with
a story about an experience with two guys who wandered into a museum
about Aliens and UFOs.  The guest described these fellows as very odd,
apparently 'silently communicating'.  The guest described one as being
near 7 foot tall and 'eyes on the SIDES of his head'.

What did GN retort to this?: 'They are everywhere!'

And that was the end of it.  I didn't regret missing the entire 'show'.

I did regret hearing what I heard. A potentially foul end of an otherwise
pretty good weeks-ending's beginning, late as it was. Thankfully fixed by
interaction with real life with real people and a few more beers.

The resultant hangover was better than that last from C2C.

I regret that last, not the former, nor the latter ere the former former.

(wait, what's the math here? passive voice, yeah, but who am I saying
who or what I regret? . . . ah fuck it. I know what I liked, and what
I hated, don't I????? C2C: that's what!)

I used to love Knapp, but I've noticed a change in him.  How long are we all going to keep wondering why ALL C2C's hosts are going downhill, before we accept that they are all being channeled into someone's (Premiere?, Clear Channel?) concept of what the show should be like?  All (except Ian) buy into whatever the guests are selling, and the guests are hand-picked to tow the company line.

A month or so ago, I emailed Knapp after his show that started with Bob Bigelow and his concern that China will someday own the moon and won't share it with the rest of us. (At the very bottom of my "To Worry About" list.) The last 3 hours were just more economic doom and gloom that we have heard ad nauseum.  I nicely told him I hoped he wouldn't continue doing those type of topics, because hosts who do so are being disparaged by discerning listeners.  I reminded him that I have written him numerous times in the past to thank him for his great shows.

Long story short, I exchanged several more emails with a very snippy Knapp.  He felt I was trying to tell him what to do.  I insisted I was just giving him my input as a dedicated fan.  Really surprised me.  My experience is that when someone takes such easy offense from someone who intends none, they are already under the pressure of someone else's great big thumb.   :P
