Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. Their very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be ‘cured’ against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.

C. S. Lewis

Perhaps you don't mind being put on that level ...

Which means you aren't only stupid, you're a pussy, afraid a new idea might corrupt what passes for your mind.

Send this to Michael Bloomberg and the rest of the idiotic food police who will make it illegal to buy anything larger than a 16 oz sugared soda but allow you to buy

a) a gazillion ounces of aspartame-filled drinks
b) a 40 oz beer
c) a large calorie-filled milkshake
d) 2 16-oz sugar sweetened sodas
e) a large fruit juice with just as many calories as a soda
f) etc.

Idiots.  Post a calorie count if you want, but let adults make up their own minds what they will put in their bodies. Why should my 6' 3" man who has never weighed more than 200 pounds, who burns more calories in a day than most people do in a week, be unable to buy a large Blizzard at McDonald's if he wants one?

And don't give me, "But their obesity illnesses cost all of society."  Because the next thing you know, you'll turn around and find out that some activity you engage in "costs all society" and is on the do-gooder hit list.

I live in the vicinity. The very next day after Nanny Bloomberg's Big Gulp Initiative, it was Doughnut Day in NYC, and he participated. Hypocrite, much? He bought himself a third term, and he's going to go down enforcing every petty piece of legislation to enforce good health habits. And I thought it was bad when an old man got a ticket for sitting on an upside down milkcrate in another of Bloomberg's initiatives to beautify NYC.

Of course, 7Eleven and everyone else is laughing all the way to the bank because people will just buy two 16 oz sodas, which means more money for them and more paper/plastic waste.

b_dubb

while I agree it is not the business of government to tell us what to eat or drink the medical costs of the obesity epidemic definitely concerns government. if you're dirt poor and you need to feed a family do you spend $4.50 on a gallon of milk? or $.79 on a two liter of coke? maybe if healthy was more affordable and more convenient for the working poor

I think the mayor's point here is that by offering an upsize for $.99 you practically double the calories in a meal. the fast food industry isn't helping. if by eliminating the upsize option this law was able to even slightly reverse the obesity epidemic, wouldn't that justify such a law?

Watching Season 2 of the A-Team & they have an episode where the bad guys are rounding up wild horses in Arizona to ship them to Mexico to be made into glue and the A-Team saves the day.  Wondering if Knapp wrote it.

Joining George Knapp, UFO investigator Christian Lambright will discuss how a private study of an unpublished daylight, multi-witness, UFO case resulted in a major aerospace propulsion breakthrough. He'll also cover the mysterious Paul Bennewitz UFO case, and how evidence was suppressed.

Look.  It's not Noory talking about angels or ways to beat cancer with baking soda.

Lie back and enjoy it while you can.  Knapp and Ian will be gone before we can say, "Carnivora," and we'll have plenty more to bitch about.

Knapp rocks!  Last night (Sunday, June 17) was another example how Knapp skillfully steers the Coast audience through four hours of great radio!

The man should be the permanent host.....with Ian as backup.  Wells is OK as an occasional host too.....

Here's what I sent Knapp, Lisa, Tom etc....etc...Noory did not receive a copy:

WOW.....again and again and again.......Mr. Knapp.....you ARE THE MASTER of COAST TO COAST AM!

Your millions of fans can relax, enjoy, and learn so much when you host.  Your excellent command of the English language is very much appreciated!  How wonderful to listen to a host who is well read and "on top" of current world affairs!  In addition, your repartee and wit never go unnoticed.  Mr. Knapp, simply put.....you have "what it takes" to be a reporter, investigator, and world class interviewer.  You are a natural!

What can I and others say except to let you know that when YOU host, we don't have to worry about strange gaffes, repetitive responses (that's true, absolutely, truly, etc..etc...), and shallow simple minded questions with NO FOLLOWUP RESPONSES!

You are a huge fan favorite.... we just wish you would be on MORE AND MORE AND MORE!

^^^Great letter to Knapp and the producers, Nebraska.  I second it.  Knapp is a consummate professional.

Just wanted to add that at the very end, GK promised this for next week: the return of David Paulides, to discuss EAST COAST DISAPPEARANCES, a la his March 25 appearance discussing West Coast disappearances.  Looking forward to that.  Or should I say, "Get ready for that."

GK's recent show about UFO secrecy was fun. however the simplest explanation to the Benewitz case is that the whole story is the by product of mental illness. Something Benewitz definitely suffered from. Sadly people by into the Dulce underground bad nonsense despite the fact that the sole source for this story was a guy who was mentally ill. As for Richard Doty's "contribution" ... why the fuck does anyone think this guy is credible?

Hey, thanks!  And......I can't wait for that program!  Ha!  Yes, "I'LL GET READY FOR THAT!"  omg.

I don't tune in to Coast when Noory is hosting, but I do listen when it's Knapp or Ian.  I remember when Paulides was on in March, and it was one hell of a good show, so I'm really looking forward to his return.

That was a good show, one of the very few in the Noory era that approached the late night spookiness routinely served up by Art Bell.  It was also the only Knapp show I ever listened to that wasn't so dry and dull that I couldn't make it past about the first hour or so.

I do wish Knapp was a little less credulous interviewing his guests though - he sure has been a sucker for UFOs, implants, abductions, Area 51, etc, stories over the years.  Now it's a 'Bigfoot hunter' serving fairly obviously made up ghoulish campfire stories about 'disappearances'.  It was a little like listening to Mel talking about the Hole - it got just more and more goofy and unbelievable as he went along.

That the National Parks don't have records of these disappearances is not proof positive they are thus true and are being covered up.

"People are vanishing without a trace from our national parks and forests, yet government agencies are saying nothing. David Paulides, a former lawman turned investigative journalist, will join George Knapp for an extended update from his last interview in March. He'll discuss even more weird and odd disappearances in the U.S. that no one to this day can explain."

I am looking forward to SUNDAY COAST TO COAST WITH GEORGE KNAPP!  Even if it isn't as great as the last Paulides program.....anything is better than last night (Thursday).  Noory literally had to ask his guest to rephrase a comment because he (I suspect) didn't understand the statement using the word:  couched.......(meaning a message concealed within a message).....Noory had to ask his guest to repeat his statement.

I give up!

Juan

sNoory probably thought he meant "couched" as in reclining on a couch.  Something I believe sNoory does during the show.

Looking forward to tonight's Coast with Knapp and Paulides!  Should be good radio.

If Premiere would fire Noory and Wells, make George Knapp the regular host and promise to keep the "false flag" idiots away (Alex Jones and company) I would start listening to Coast to Coast again.

HAL 9000

I've never heard Knapp mention anything about his personal life. I know he was recently (August 2010) married in Hawaii to his long time girlfriend.

What I really want to know is, does George Knapp have a daughter named Laurie? If so, there might very well be a business connection with Dr. Steven Greer. I also realize Knapp is a not-uncommon name, and may be just a coincidence.

I will second that.  I do not think that I have even turned on C2C in the last month.  I may need to start marking my calandar for Noory and Wells free nights.

Until recently I always tuned in at least for a few minutes to judge the show... now I do not (and this means that I miss any Knapp in addition to missing the garbage they usually put out.)  It also means that I participate far less here as I cannot really complain about what I do not hear.

Tonight I was listening to a 4 hour interview Knapp had with Stanton Friedman, and I enjoyed it, mostly I think because Knapp asked intelligent questions and wasn't afraid to disagree with Friedman, respectfully of course. At no time, despite the subject, did the show veer into the rabbit hole, and it remained an interesting discussion between two people who've each done a lot of research into a fascinating (to me, at least!) subject. We all have different perspectives on C2C hosts, but I look forward to Knapp's shows and Ian's as well because they do their homework and bring a lot to the discussion. Tonight's show with Paulides should be classic C2C scary.

I feel bad for saying this, but tonight's show about missing persons in state parks is pretty damn slow!

Morgus

George Knapp has the courage and stamina to have a guest on for the full 4 hours.
Noory in contrast can barely handle 3 hours, and many times nowadays has to split the guests to 2 hours each, probably due to his lack of attention span?

Clearly Knapp is the final adult on Coast. I sent him an emailing asking him to ask Art to create a whole new show where they switch between says and host. I told him I knew quite well I was out of line asking and that the request would probably be impossible but I sent it anyway.
