Have Coast To Coast Forums Become The New Ghost Towns?

Started by Dateline, July 12, 2014, 01:34:12 AM

Dateline

This forum is probably one of the most lively ones that discusses Coast to Coast Am.  I don't count Facebook as a forum.  To me a forum is a message board.  Even this board is not solely about Coast, it is very diversified.

I did a brief visit to the various forums and they are spooky.  No one has posted for months on some of them about Coast.  It is really sad and depressing to me.  I have read some of them over the years and there active forum communities that shared an enjoyment of getting together and posting while listening to the show.

Why is it like this?  Are forum or message boards going out of existence, losing popularity?  Is it because Noory just sucks?  It seems they have died a slow and untimely death.  I read the ghost of shows pasts and felt like  I was reading among the dust of dead shows.

It is late, and I hope I am not haunted by posters who have ceased to post.  . . .

Morgus

Its been like that for years.
It seems facebook, twiitter, etc have replaced the old style forums/message boards for most things anyway.

Some of it is because Johnny can't QWERTY.

Forums are the last bastion of the Wild West Internet.

The Andromeda Strain wasn't as deadly as Noory has been to C2C forums.

Fantastic Forum has fewer living members than WWI veteran reunions.

Noory continues to be a babe magnet to the over 50 female listener crowd. All 26 of them....

God, spot on!
I joined there a few weeks back because it is referenced here so often only to find maybe, three people anywhere close to active.
Wasn't it supposed to be the ultimate Art Bell site (not named Bellgab, of course) not too long ago?
This appears to be the only real site left for Bell fans (and Jorch despisers) to congregate.  So be it!
Long live BellGab!!!

I'd put some of the blame on the lack of anything new or big happening on the paranormal/conspiracy spank front. It seems that for the most part, C2C guests churn out the same stuff over and over again.

The most interesting thing to happen lately might be David Paulides with the missing people in the National Parks, but even that's wearing thin a little bit.

Of course a lot has to do with Snorge as well.

I would guess that not a lot of people listen to C2C as they did back in the good ol' days. George seems to have turned people off... and anyone willing to speak on the subject is more, or less on the negative side. I only listen on occasion for shits 'n giggles.

Kelt

I have to admit, I choose my C2Cs very carefully these days.  However it seems like an ever-increasing number of shows just sound like it's a deliberate attempt to bore the balls off anyone who decides to tune in.

"Tonight we'll have an economist on for 3 hours, telling us how shit sucks and is going to suck more!"

"For the next hour we'll have LMH droning on about fuck knows what, but she'll do it with a level of unquestioning credulity that borders on imbecility."

"Tonight's guest is the world's foremost authority on card shuffling..."

"Tonight... SPOONS! What are they and how do they work? And later Open Lines where people call in and completely avoid the topic in question, instead they'll ramble on about how they saw a thing once and it was weird!... and I'll agree!"

High strangeness, portals, and pizza rolls... coming up next.

Hey, was there a 'Nighthawk' fan site?  Does one really exist?  I'm having naughty thoughts about seeking one out and joining.  HEhehehhe  GNS, baby, GNS!

Maybe Coast's subject matter has reached a saturation point. As others have said- it's the same guests and topics over and over. George just doesn't have the stage presence to carry the show. I really enjoy scary stories and regional/historical mysteries and legends- which are rarely found on Coast these days. Even if they did book a good guest, George's poor interviewing skills and his attempts to inject himself into the interview just drains away any hope of a good show.

I wish they would have emerging show hosts for 1or 2 weeks each month. Who knows, they might find a few great hosts and boost their ratings.

Yes, every so often they get an interesting caller. But no follow up or getting the caller back maybe as a guest (like that Ukrainian who called in during the Weather Modification show recently.) He seemed to know more than the guest and would be an interesting guest (even if untrue). But they basically cut him off and no follow up. He could've also gave a real update about the Ukraine crisis, perhaps, instead of the same old US-based guys who don't even speak the language or ever even visited the region.

It seems to me that PRN is getting exactly what they want from Noory or he'd have been gone years ago.  They want a cheap placeholder with just enough audience to keep the affiliates on the hook and competition at bay. It is, though, more threadbare than ever with Noory's lack of prep and high school newpaper-grade interview skills becoming more tone deaf.   I expect that C2C is being kept on life support to become a Republican conduit to the fringe right in 2015.

They could have submerging hosts taking control of submerging artists shows.  The thing is that I doubt they would put anymore effort into choosing a submerging host than they do the artists.  "Just send us a tape of you interviewing somebody else... even your mother and we will put it in a big closet and chose one at random."

Actually, that is not a bad idea- providing they asked for three hour tapes.  They could probably just pull random tapes out of the closet, play the tape on air, skip the hosting altogether and end up with a comparable show to what they presently have.  One night we would get Bill the atheist astronomer interviewing himself and the next we would get a ten year old interviewing his uncle and asking about the family history for a school project...

Dave Schrade did his own show Monday and then hosted C2C. Didn't Noory start that way? :O

Which is why George tried soooo hard to befriend this forum and turn it against Art.
He knows only crazy cat ladies and loose screws are what's left of the audience. Can't say I blame him.

Did George begin his show in a bar before people last call and wander across the street to premrad?

Seems like the forums were hopping this time last year when art came back and the epic fallout of his 30 day tease.

Yes it seems that all we have are rehashing of the same 12 stories. Bigfoot, Solar Kill Shot, Underground Alien Bases, Alien Abductions, Nibaru mining the Gold of  Earth, Nephelim mating with Earth Women, The War of the Angels in Heaven, The Secret Space Program, The Shadow Government, Twilight Zone Show, Bullshit Psychics (None who could see 9/11 coming!)
Lots of bullshit stories, sometimes new people telling the stories in a different ways, but never any real proof!
I end up turning off the show almost every other night and playing old Art Bell and Ian Punnet show from the Mp3 files on my phone.
It's no wonder hardly anyone posts to the Fantastic Forums. Where Coast to Coast has gone from a 1970 Mustang Mach I under Art, it's now a rusty 1974 Ford Pinto! Every once in awhile George Knapp shows up in his 1970 Dodge Charger to rev up the show!

Actually Art Bell often talked about his cars back in the 1990s, he drove a small Geo Metro and also had a newer Pontiac Firebird in the garage...  8)

People are smart and they want to be entertained in a smarter way. C2C is a bag of cats.

Art talking about his cats was far more interesting than anything that comes out of George's mouth.
