Art Bell Quits Dark Matter

I agree with that, I do.  However, many of Bell's loyal listeners went out and bought satellite receivers and subscriptions for the new show.  Thankfully, they can get refunds on unused subs it seems.

It seems more than a bit disingenuous to hype up the fanbase, promote a new show, only to cut out after about 2 months citing something as miniscule as an online streaming app...and then to get upset at all da haterz for having the audacity to say, "what the fuck, man?"

I agree - it doesn't make sense, and I don't understand why he would go off the air because SOME subscribers were experiencing problems with the live stream. That does seem like an extreme reaction. If I had spent a bunch of money no SXM just to listen to Art Bell, I'd be upset too. It's not so much people saying, "what the fuck, man," but how they've been saying it here. I'd be asking the same question, but not in the way that so many people here have chosen to phrase that question. Bell has enough respect for his listeners to come here to this zoo and try to keep them informed. He has no obligation to do any of that, and I'm really surprised that he's posting at all. You can disagree with what someone do so in a respectful way. I think he's shown a great deal of respect to his fans by going out of his way to keep them informed of what's going on by posting here and opening himself up to vicious attacks. I understand and even agree with what you're saying - I just hate to see how utterly disrespectful people are being here when he's trying to keep everyone in the loop and obviously trying to come to an agreement with SXM.

Dude, let's just see what happens. Is it me? Callers will always be there.

The audience reach and listener pool was obviously too small for what Art wants to be able to reach. That's what it's boiled down to, he wants anyone in the world to hear him reliably.
I think no matter what he does, it's going to take time to build the base he wants. It's better to expect less and if you get more that's great, if you don't, you can handle it and work on it.  I think a year to get a solid base is a reasonable expectation. Mind you, that's about the time it takes to develop just a solid foundation. There's no quick way to a huge fan base.

okkkkkk... and some would accuse me of possibly being off center  ::)  ;D

These are the folks who will blindly bend over for Art and take it good and hard over and over again... just zombies.
Unreal.

That was sarcasm, dude.

Well, in all fairness to human, what I did write was over the top and insane sounding and if you hadn't known I was joking it would sound strange,

Human, I mostly joke around here. Even when I'm serious I try to throw in a joke or two. Chances are if I'm sounding off kilter its for comedic purposes.

Sooooo you didn't write a book about cat magic and you don't want us to create an alter to Art Bell? Am I reading you correctly?

A grudge? What the hell? No, I'm bitching online about a celebrity that you or I have never met, don't know personally, etc.

Why you're acting like someone just offending you personally is very strange.  Are you going to go cry now because someone somewhere is entertaining negative thoughts about a millionaire who doesn't give a damn about you?
Wha wha wha :'(

I did write the book but it was a joke, too. And no, I don't want anyone doing that to bring art bell back, nor do I think it would be effective.

In the past I've speculated George has made a pact with praeternatural and cthonic deities. This also was a joke. I'm sorry if everyone took it seriously. I think Noory's not in kahootz with anything.

How is going to squash the noncompete?
I think Sirius will see the wisdom in re-writing their deal with Art.  After all, they already have exactly the same sort of arrangement with Mike Malloy (and perhaps others) that Art wants, and because they'll still make money.  And they'll have exclusive broadcast rights to Dark Matter, no small thing.

That's odd because that is never an issue with all the other shows on Sirius I listen to.  I suggest that it's on Art's end--however the program's call screening works.

How would that work? I think it's probably more the case that Art's listenership exceeds the other shows on the web. That wouldn't be surprising given the nature of his program versus drive time humor talk.

Perhaps that's why the reaction to Dark Matter being pulled was so bad - no explanation except for a Facebook post that was quickly deleted while fans had been dreaming before Spooky Matter that Art would announce his own paranormal channel or a fifth day because everything was going so well.

I totally expected him to say he was going to start doing Friday shows. I think people were also impatient to get to the end of the spooky matter show just because they really really really wanted to hear him say what they were hoping for. Which probably resulted in a lot of cranky comments during spooky matter. People were already cranky throughout the show that when Art announced his proposal, and it wasn't what anyone had in mind, shit got really out of hand. Then just when you thought it couldn't get worse...

You're seriously approaching Noorybot-levels of slavish devotion.  I'm sorry if I've somehow offended your imaginary boyfriend.

OMG, Phil Hendrie just did a long impersonation of Art Bell interviewing General Johnson Jameson about SiriusXM and the General was asking Art why he was leaving Sirius so soon.
The General told Art that Art was the only one that he could talk to about Gremlin Juice and having sex with Art near Area 51! It was freaking hilarious! Phil then spoke at length as himself about Art and Ross Mitchell and about SiriusXM

Yes, my name does refer to a period of geologic time when dinosaurs roamed the earth coupled with an Islamic spiritual leader. From this you would be wise to gather that much of what I say isn't entirely serious.

I did publish a book and put an upside down cross on it and purposefully miss-spelled words --- and pointed out that I miss-spelled them by putting a [sic] after them --- and all sorts of other nutty things, and people still took it seriously, for the most part. I didn't think people would take the idea of using cats for magick purposes seriously and, even when they did, they would get the hint when I suggested cats could find good deals in department stores or uncover the identity of your child's father (baby daddy) if you were in doubt, so long as mock-Hebrew chants were said over them and their little furry heads were anointed with consecrated oil and colored robes put over them to represent Astrological Powers.

Very few got the joke.

If Sirius says no, what do you think the reason would be?

It sounds like a win win so far.

That's the best answer I've heard so far.

Who would George be?  :o

George is Gale.  Kind of boring, but he is reliable.

So in this context, Art has to be Walt because he is so unpredictable.
