Art Bell Quits Dark Matter

Started by DesertFox, November 01, 2013, 08:13:24 AM

Glad to see you about Art.  I feel tonight is history, especially in this genre.  Bringing amateurs into a mainstream arena, using your name and reputation to spread these guys names and work.  If only other people in your position would do the same in other media forms more often.  As a writer among other things, it's always incredible to see big dogs help the pups up.  I'm sure some of these guys will do quite well out of it.  But it's fun for them, really fun for us, and hopefully the amount of listeners will grow quickly, netting you something nice to return to.  We're all waiting for that.  The seed is planted and we are ready for the tree.

It was cool to hear a show straight through with no commercial interruption.  That said I did like the limited breaks on dark matter, especially with the bumper music as it gave you a chance to think over the topic discussed and built anticipation for the next segment.

The beauty of podcasts.

Not to sound mercenary, but how do such endeavors sustain themselves without commercials?  Is the podcast talent doing these shows gratis for the exposure/experience to use as resume fodder?  Doesn't someone have to pay for production costs?

So you want people to ignore what you look like as you slap on some eyebrows and a mustache and try to look like Dave?

If what you look like is not important then why bother with the props?

Ok, fine... let us ignore the body type... the mess... the fans... the mirrored image.... the self promoting... the fact that you seem to enjoy thinking you are "monetizing" yourself... the broken glasses... what exactly are we left with?

All I can really come up with is some institutional level Dave Obsession.

In Falkies defense, he is NOT interested in making gobs of money from youtube or anywhere else. He was given a BIG opportunity to make money online by sponsors but he just wants to have fun with what he is doing and not change his approach for commercial reasons. I totally respect him for that. And btw Falkie, Theres no need to answer to your critics, it's impossible to make everyone happy in this world. Just keep being Falkie and doing what you love bro!!!

I read Noory's latest contract with PremRad.  He forced them to add a "Non-Complete" Clause.
... and added a clause for unrestricted dangling participles  ;)

A lot of podcasts are just low budget homegrown things.  People recording and editing something for the love of a subject.

Art bell is starting something soooo cool ..yay!!

DanTSX:   Yeah,  He is proving that a bunch of dedicated amateurs with a Macbook Pro, an internet connection, and an actual interest in the subject can out-game George Noory and perm-rat.

Absolutely true!

An organization guided by vision, passion and interest always outperforms a larger conservative company.

PremCrap is so mediocre, all we have to do is kick in the door-- and the whole house will fall down!

Ha,

Small steps. It is filling up so fast that by the time I can go on there will be no space for me!
I love it, good ideas have a way of building pretty fast. As I keep saying, just wait and see, I bet the next
great Paranormal Broadcaster will be born there.

Listening now, Art.

If you build it, they will come...  :)

I would really miss the Ghost Investigators Society if they didn't appear on Art's show. I missed not hearing Barbara McBeath this last time, though.

Please!!! Don't click!!!

What makes you think I don't want gobs of money from You Tube or anywhere else ?

And if I had a big opportunity to make money from sponsors I'd take it as long as they let me do my schtick like I'm doing.

Like I should continue to be poor for the rest of my life ? Oy gevalt !

I got 8 hungry cats and a girlfriend to support.

I want to make enough from wherever I can so I can buy both Premiere and Sirius and install myself as Master of the Broadcasting Universe.

My first act would be to walk into Noory's studio, force him to eat a flaming pizza roll and fire him on the air.

Then Tommy.

And then install Art as my representative on Terra as I go to live permanently on the ISS after they create gravity for it.

Then I'd lob flaming pizza rolls onto all the bad guys on the Earth like Kim Il Jung III and Assad in Syria.

;) :D

The Satellite is a Harsh Mistress.

I probably became a paleocon because I read all those Heinlein stories.

But in all seriousness, if I made enough to upgrade stuff and get another new mac for the bedroom and could pay someone to help me out on the Mac and then finally get my gf a newer Mac I'd be happy. Anything else would be gravy.

And a big schmock, schmock to you as well !!!

Yeah, I get that.  A guy who used to work for me had a son in high school who did an internet sports show.  You nailed it, he loved it and it was very low budget.

What I'm reading about here on artbell.com sounds like it's at least an order of magnitude over and above "a lot of the podcasts" you reference.  There have to be costs associated with airing (netting?) this programming, right? Who's footing the bills?

I, respectively, disagree.

This thread is the soul, the center, the inner sanctum, the core, the essence, and the heart of our collective consciousness.

oh, we could post on other threads, or start ones with specific topics...blah blah blah...

but like the mind and the spirit that rambles from thought to thought...so does this thread.

This is thread is our ride...wanna?

Well, I could guess for some.  Jim mentioned on the show tonight that he has a ghost stories book out.  So for guys like him, it's more the case that they are established and successful and make money elsehow.  As for the streaming on Art's site, I'm sure Art is footing the bill as far as the servers and bandwidth go.

I'd take another guess that for a lot of these guys, it's as simple as having a computer, some kind of microphone, an internet connection , and a little money for a domain or a premium account on some file site.  Personal labors of love can be be really costly with little return...

I dont like the EVP's either. Art gave fair warning but i listened anyway and that night after i went to bed i felt a presence in my room. Once i mustered the courage i told it to get lost. I wont listen to another one of those again   ???

We use to have a talk show host named John Cigna here in Pittsburgh, PA. He was on KDKA-AM. Back in the late 1970's, on Halloween, he would broadcast from a home in Pittsburgh that was supposedly haunted. He had a ghost hunter with him (John D.). Lot's of fun on a Halloween night.

I know these shows can creep you out but sometimes they can be fun. Stand guard and be safe!

Here's the first show from 1978 if anyone is interested.

Bullshit. This thread has gone WAY off topic. Anybody with half a brain would know this. Most of the commenters here at this point are attention whores talking off topic to get recognition. What's to stoke a non-Art Bell quitting Dark Matter conversation? Open up another thread to discuss that topic. Otherwise, this thread should only be "Art Bell Quits Dark Matter", positive or negative.

What in the hell do you think people have been talking about in here for weeks ?

Your avatar ?

Sheesh.

I could go through the hundreds of posts and see just what percentage of people on here are talking about Art either coming back on the air or leaving or the ramifications of his leaving and it would be a high percentage.

Art is doing something to bridge the gap between NO Art AND Art.

All you're doing is stinkin' up the place even worse than your avatar.

Lighten up, Hanky.

This.  The thread at this point is still about the aftermath and future of Art quitting the show.  Conversations evolve, especially over the course of nearly a month.

this thread about art, damn I thought it was about human perception of art.

Like I said, most of you commenting 50 times a day are attention whores. Instead of honoring Art, you have become pussies. Very well. On one hand, you praise Art for doing right in knowing his homework before interviewing guests and his protocol, but you show no protocol on this website and this thread by going off-topic. You criticize Noory for the very thing you praise Art Bell for: Homework.
