Do You Remember your first Taste of George?

I remember when I first heard George, which was around 2001..I thought wow this guy is good and will probably take over Coast to Coast someday. And Low and behold! The man was mesmerizing to say the least. To this day he still manages to keep impressing Coast audiences all over the world.

He is also making himself more accessible to Coast Listeners, starting next month he will have a Skype line just for Coast Insiders where he will take only one on one private calls.

jazmunda

Yes. I remember my first taste. I still can't hold the vomit down and that vile taste just won't go away.

Juan

I remember when I first heard him.  I thought he had a decent voice.  Then he began an interview and asked the guest a question that had just been answered.  I thought, I hope we don't have to hear more from this idiot.

onan

Yeah, and hopefully soon the only way to hear noory will be by memory.

In 2001 C2C had over 5 million listeners. in 2006 the number had dropped to 4.5 million and now it is 3 million.

noory is a joke. The management has found reason to keep this putz on the air. But that reasoning will no doubt fade. I only hope, somehow his departure can be retroactive.

The first time I ever heard Jorch (that I recall), I was cleaning a toilet.  True story.  My soul feels like it's cleaning a toilet every time I listen to him.  No, I don't know what that means, either.

Sexy.

coaster

I remember my first taste of Noory. It tasted like pepperoni.

al georizza

yes,but now thanks to the good folks at peeman enterprises, my tinfoil brain igloo prevents such nonsense.

My first taste of George left me with second degree burns on my left eardrum.
I carry a flashlight with me wherever I go so people can see my scars.

What??? :o

ItsOver

Ah, yes, Creme de Jorch.  Remember it well.

Yeah, it was so bad I had to drive down to the local sewage treatment plant and dive in just to get rid of the stench.

Locally for some reason ( along with the one in Milpitas ) they put the sewage treatment plant right next to the main freeway interchange that goes to Pittsburg or leads to the bridge that goes to either Benicia or to the freeway to Sacramento.

It really reeks and you can smell it before you can see it when it's either been a really hot day or when it's been really smoggy.

It's really bad when highway 4 backs up and you're stuck in traffic too.

The sentiments of the funniest troll here. Fort Rock's got nothing on this bozo act. Imagine being a Noory fan? Of course not! So we get a caricature like this fella. Color me amused.

          For the moment.

Nope, don't remember the first Noory experience, and I don't remember when it was that I realized I hadn't turned it on for awhile - so I don't remember the final time either.

I had to work the next morning, so I only listened to shows - at least all the way to the end - that had topics I was especially interested in.  Same with Art, but I'd always stay with him longer before going to bed.

Noory fan ? Is that an electric version, paper or powered by a bicycle ? Or by burning half eaten pizza rolls in a small steam powered version ?

All of the above...and defective in every case.

I heard George on KTRS and he was only OK, but he did wake up and was passionate about the nights he took over Coast.  He knew he had something and he worked for it, and then he got it, and then he got bored, and then he failed.

In all seriousness, I first him him as a fill-in in 2001, and thought him to be a fairly typical overnight host. Decent voice, demeanor. So I wasn't really opposed in his taking over...BUT, part of that was my declining interest in C2C due to Art's retirements and the nature of the show turning toward "real world" subjects after 9/11.

It was probably Fall 2004 when it became clear to me Noory was quite the dolt and C2C had begun to really veer in a bad way. I'd still listen on weekends, but weeknights not so much.

I know you're merely a contrarian troll, but has it occurred to you that your above statement is self-contradictory, i.e., the words accessible, insiders, and private?

Hi, George! How're those pizza rolls treating you?

Just when did he NOT fail ?

MV/Liberace!

No, I can't recall when I first heard George. That's how unremarkable he is.

Who paid you to post this?  Is the George's mummy?

The numbers show he has taken Coast from 15 million listeners to 3 millions listeners and lost many flamethrower stations, impressive.

beyondbeleef

I do, unfortunately:

I started listening to Coast to Coast at the start of last year on my phone's radio as I'd fall asleep. I started listening to conservative talk radio for shits and giggles. It'd be on such low volumes that I had no idea what it was about, or even remembered the name. I remembered hearing a really great radio voice that I would put on low volume as I slept but had to spend some time tracking the show down.

I think I caught a show on cryptozoology and it was my first time actually listening. The guest gave his personal Facebook page link and i looked it up and was very underwhelmed.

I then found the show and heard George Noory. That wasn't the smooth radio voice I was accustomed to (that was John B Wells, who I now take some issue with) so I was disappointed. He had stupid guests on and asked idiotic questions.

But somehow I kept listening to it--I suppose as underwhelmed as I felt it was easier to fall asleep to than people ranting about Obama.

Then I listened to a show about angels whilst watering the garden and it was so spurious that it made me a converted listener.

I first turned on the Fine Art stream a month or so ago and I wish I knew about it originally. I listen to that when Noory gets too mind numbingly awful.

George is so nothing that I can't for the life of me recall the first time I heard him, probably when he was filling in for Art.

One thing I remember very clearly is right after 9-11 George was adamant that C2C would not entertain any conspiracy theories about the attack whatsoever. Fast forward a couple of years and it seemed 9-11 conspiracies became the core subject of the show. Does anyone else remember this or am I having a "Winston Smith 2+2=5" moment?

Shouldn't you direct that question to Tommy? I first heard Noory in 2005 or 2006. I concentrated more on the guests than on Noory until the ouija board melodrama. I then joined the crowd in the Definitive Compendium.

I started listening to Coast only a few years ago. After hearing Art Bell in Prey I thought this show might be interesting. So I downloaded it... and heard George Noory. I liked him. I thought he was ok. But then I heard Art Bell's full show... and I realized something. George Noory sucks.

It's interesting and I might google some old Noory's shows to check if he always was so bad or has he gotten that bad recently. I haven't listened to Coast To Coast AM for a few months now. Can no longer stand George and the guests aren't interesting. Art could make an uninteresting guest, well, interesting. George can't. Based on what I've read so far in this thread, it seems he never could. But I don't understand how he could have taken over the show, become the main host by being a poor host. It just doesn't compute.

Are you suggesting I ask C2C producer Tom Danheiser? Assuming he'd even reply, do you really think he'd answer honestly?

My question was directed at other members who might recall George saying C2C would not discuss any 9-11 conspiracy theories back in late 2001, but thanks for trying to help.

I answered the thread's question in the form of a dirty joke. Shame on me for being tasteless. I always use the quote feature when I reply or respond to someone's post. That said, these "Three's Company" misunderstandings are good for laughs.
